"Extremely comfortable"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 1, 2012
Very handy for travel in and around Kyoto, though the station area itself is a bit of a let-down and a little far from "the action". Great rooms, smashing service - though I was peeved at having to pay for tea/coffee in the rooms; generally free in other Japan hotels of its class.
"Very convenient location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 27, 2012
nice hotel in good location. 880 yen for taxi from station, 1040 yen to return to station, that was for 3 adults, 1 child and 4 suitcases. Luggage all taken care of by bell boy - and no need to tip! All staff at hotel very helpful and any requests, e.g. room too hot - window was unlocked and opened immediate. Also request for extra pillows. The Anchor bar in the basement is a good place to have a grown up moment and prices not too expensive. Gion district about half an hour walk, also Emperor's Palace Gardens. Would use this hotel again.

we were upgraded to a premium room and loved it - large, comfy, great bathroom. the bar staff were very helpful, taking me off-menu to learn about japanese whisky, which was much-appreciated. the location is right in the thick of it which was a blessing soem days, less so on others! the shop in the lobby has some really interesting local crafts and there is a great gyoza restaurant in the building just behind the hotel (details in lonely planet)

"too expensive for the size of the rooms"
My friends stayed at this hotel over New Year, the rooms are quite clean and the Chinese staff was friendly, although somtimes a bit loud. Guests may use the the kitchen, which can be convenient. The main problem is that the rooms are so tiny that even with only 1 piece of lagguage the futon cannot be completely laid out...
"BJ Family House Kyoto Japan"
This is a very small, traditional style "hotel." In fact, amenities like blow dryers, TV, and internet were only available in the common areas. The rooms and bathroom were clean--and cleaned daily. The first night of our stay was noisy from a partying group, but it settled down the next few nights. The proprietors do leave at night.
"Great for the money"
We just stayed for one night at this ryokan... the place was clean and quiet...the owners were very nice and the location was close to Kyoto Station...very convenient. Overall a good place for the money.
"BJ FAmily House"
The management is friendly and location is as per stated. Quite convenient. But the room is quite tiny, satisfactory for just a rood over the head.
"BJ Family House - very basic hotel/hostel"
This place is not exactly a hotel or a hostel; it felt more like a family home. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is walking distance to the Kyoto station, which was convenient (about 5-10 min walk). We stayed here for one night only and the rooms are traditional Japanese style with tatami mats and futons. There is AC/heater in the […] room. The bathroom came with shower gel and shampoo/conditioner. Depending on the room you book, it may or may not come with a private bathroom. If it doesn't, there is a shared bathroom. We got lucky and had a room with a bathroom so it wasn't too much of an issue for us. The bathroom was really small though. The room does not have any amenities (i.e. TV, dresser, etc.) that you would find at a typical hotel. However, there is wi-fi available and owner has a laptop that you can use. I would recommend this place if it's at a good rate and if you're only planning to come back to sleep. Read more
"Simple accomodations, great location & hospitality"
BJ Family house is very conveniently located in that it is close to the main Kyoto train station, subway stations, and is on a main bus line. If you want basically a place to sleep and leave your luggage while you go sight seeing, this is fine. It doesn't offer much more than that but I didn't expect more, based on the description in hotels.com. The […] rooms are simple, a little small, and Japanese style tatami mats with futons on the floor. I sleep fine on that but some non Japanese guests might not. There's a lot of street noise for the two rooms in the front of the hotel (I had one of those), not good for light sleepers. The innkeeper, was very, very helpful for anything we asked, right down to drawing us a map to a good tonkatsu restaurant. The location is great, the rooms are clean and simple, you share bathroom/toilets, and it's located on a busy street so there is street noise. But keep the value in mind as well. I would stay here again but I might try to get a room in the back instead of over the street. Read more
"Decent Hotel"
The hotel is within walking distance from Kyoto station and has free wireless internet. The bathroom and shower are shared. My room was across from the bathroom and the walls are very thin, so I heard people throughout the morning and night. The room was cheap though, and allowed me to stay in Kyoto for a short time in order to explore the numerous […] temples and shrines. I would probably stay here again, but only for a short time. "Great affordable Hotel"
Its about a 10 min walk from Kyoto Train station. This is like a Bed & Breakfast (except the breakfast part)!! You can come in & leave anytime you want per your sightseeing schedule

Read more

"他がいっぱいのときはここ!"
京都駅から歩いて7分くらいで嘘のように静かな環境です。歩けばコンビニも飲食店もあり、共同シャワーは玄関脇でびっくりりますが、安さを追求するならお勧めです。京都駅周辺のホテルが軒並みいっぱいだったのですが、ここに泊まれて本当によかった!
"Perus ryokan"
Sijainti on suhteellisen lähellä asemaa. Alakerran kylpyhuone on vastaaottotiskin edessä heti ulko-oven vieressä. Luulen että suurin osa huoneista on yläk […] errassa. Read more
"Es una casa de huespedes"
no es un hotel, la habitacion era como un cuarto de servicio acondicionado como habitacion no esta bonito.
"Family prison"
No vireless internet offred. No window in the room (prison like), very small rooms (aprox 2,5 x3m), pillow was rock hard. No tv in the room.No klock radio. Avoid this hotel there are much much better places.
"びっくりすると思います。"
多分、家族用の広い部屋には入れればいいですが、一人べ屋のような3畳くらいの部屋に2人になると、かなり辛いです。 近くのK's Houseが予約でいっぱいだったので選びましたが、マンガ喫茶の方が休めるかもしれません。

"Bien Sympa"
Read more
