This hotel is on a side street so it was pretty quiet. The hotel is really dark and our room felt small. The bed was smaller than other places, too. It just has an old, dark feel to it. It is a quick walk off of the S. Toma' boat stop so it is convenient.

Hotel Iris is in a great location for walking or taking the vaporetto (water bus) to almost any part of Venice. It is tiny--the room, bathroom, etc. were all very small and cramped, but clean. We had an issue with the noise of a generator or motor of some kind that was quite loud and late at night. The manager tried to find it, but couldn't figure out […] where it was, and didn't do anything about it. Also, the "breakfast" (literally 2 white rolls and coffee) was in a different building, over a bridge, down an alley, across a piazza. Centrally located a couple calle behind the S.Toma vaporetto stop, I found it to be a small and charming hotel. Most of my activities kept me out of the hotel generally but my nights were comfortable and very quiet. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our first room had non working air conditioner and a window that could not be closed because there was a pipe connecting to the air unit outside the bedroom. the floor was so dirty that it felt sticky when one walked on it. We requested another room . The night person was not happy and did not make an effort to disguise his dissatisfaction at being […] "inconvenienced". He took us to another room, but he did not know how to turn the air. He did not help us with our luggage to the second floor. We requested a wake up call, but did not get one. In the interest of not making this review sound hateful, I will keep the feedback concise. Please save yourself some grief, and do not stay at Hotel Iris. Consider spending a bit more for a much more pleasant stay elsewhere. First, our view out of the room was of an enlosed area decorated by a pail of rancid liquid, dead foliage, and hanging laundry. […] The room was outfitted with a basic fan with an electrical cord running the length of the room, visible because the fan was posted on the top of a tall cabinet. The room was dreary, as we could not keep the windows open due to the smell, and dusty, and it was definitely an aweful beginning to an otherwise beautiful stay in Venice. The gentleman at the front desk was able to change our room that evening, which was such a relief, and because the gentleman apparently knew what the condition of the room was (I am sure that we have not been the first couple to ask for a switch in rooms), he explained that we would not be charged a fee for the first evening, but the second evening would need to be negotiated with the manager the following morning. Fair enough. Come morning, we ask the lady at the front desk if the manager was available to discuss the pricing issue, and she stated that the manager was not available, but she was able to set pricing. When I explained to her what the gentleman stated the night before, she proceeded to explain that this would not be an option, and we would have to pay a difference for both nights. She then began to haggle. I was sure that the gentleman would back me up as he was there in the morning, but he retracted his statement, and tried to explain that he spoke too fast. This was after he had been scolded by the lady at the front desk that was definitely not the manager. Anyhow, the new room was better, because we had a private bathroom, but beware of no working air conditioning system and tons of mosquitos. Good hotel, clean, near to San Marco (10' walking), great breakfast, nice people. Internet wireless free in the room. BUT when you will do the booking, be carefully about the private bathroom, because the add it's confusing. the hotel have share bathroom and private, but they will bill you 25 euros more for each day

This is near the San Toma water bus stop, and one of the closer hotels to Piazzale Roma, which is where you can get or get dropped off from airport transportation (which gives it reasonable walking distance, if you're ok with carrying your suitecase over a handfull of staircases). It's kind of far from San Marco square, however. Water in the shower was not working and the breakfast was 'served' in a hotel 5 min away since they were refurbishing their resturant. There was however no sigh of work being undertaken. The reviews of the Iris are mixed indeed. It is a very basic hotel, but in a very central and convenient location (near to San Toma waterbus stop). There is a lot of confusion about the location, because online map searches give wildly varying results. I had incredibly difficulty finding the hotel. The address on hotels.com is incorrect. Google maps takes you to a completely different area. Thankfully, I had a working phone and I was able to call the hotel. They were able to get me to a square close by the hotel and the reception met me there, which was very kind. My check in was very quick and I […] was taken to my room. I was told the shower was broken but I could still use it. It was just a dripping showerhead, which didn't bother me that much. The air conditioner in the room did not work, but it at least did move the air around. I would not suggest opening the windows because of the mosquitos. Wifi only in the lobby, which was inconvenient but at least it was free. I requested a single and was pleasantly surprised to see a double bed, until I actually had to use the bed. It was the 2 most uncomfortable twin mattresses pushed together to form a double bed and you could not sleep in the middle because you would end up in between the mattresses. Also, the hotel did not let you take your key with you. You had to leave it at the front desk, which I thought was very odd and I wasn't really comfortable with that. Overall it was an okay stay, but a bit pricey, but I was there during the weekend of the Regatta so I'm sure prices were inflated. Read more

The hotel is in a great location in the heart of venice. The rooms are very basic and a bit small...the building is old and the drains smell a bit but that is to be expected in venice! The restaurant bar next door to the hotel has a big party every friday with some heavy house music playing until 1am so join them or bring your earplugs! The first night we had to move due to a crazy lady screaming for unknown reason. The staff were helpful and kind. The reception area was rather shabby, and the shower in room 124 not in good order. But the beds were clean and comfortable (though there was no maid service for 1 day of our 3 night stay.) The situation is good, being only 100 yards from the San Toma vaporetto stop.

Badly maintained Hotel lobby, No Elevator, No Air-Conditional in the room, Only a very old fan with a small window for ventilation. Toilet is very very small. Ceiling look very bad condition too. Not enough place to open a luggage as there's only enough place for a person to walk around.

We stayed in this hotel when we first went to Venice 14 years ago. We originally chose it for the location, right in the centre of Venice. That convenience, combined with the charm of San Polo, has not changed. Neither, however, has the hotel. It is in serious need of a real refurb, not just a quick dash of paint as high as the decorator could reach […] without standing on a ladder (I kid you not!). Situated in the central area of San Polo on a canal this hotel is round the corner from the Basillica di Santa Maria and only 10 minute walk from the train station (if you dont get lost !) The hotel itself is very basic and not very clean but is a great, cheap place to stay if you just want a place to sleep.

L'hôtel donne sur un petit canal adorable , et fait face à un palais . Il est proche d'une station de Vaporetto, dans un petit quartier animé. Hotellet og expedia bør gjøre oppmerksom på at det er oppgraderinger på gang på et overnattingsted når man bestiller. Videre må man opplyse om at det i Venezia er innført en skatt som man må betale ved avreise i hotellets resepsjon - vi ble overrasket over at det plutselig kom et tillegg i pris! Dette hotellet var shabby og ga et dårlig inntrykk! Frokosten […] var ikke bra nok rett og slett! Man forventer bedre kvalitet på mat og drikke på et hotell i Italia selv om prisen ikke tilsier gourmetstandar. Det var også veldig plagsomt med mygg på rommet - en enkel anordning med myggnett på vinduet eller rundt sengen hadde løst mye av ubehaget. Unfreundliches, inkompetentes Personal. Zimmer dreckig, abblätternde Farbe. 1 ganzer Fensterflügel nicht vorhanden, demenstprechede Geräusche von außerhalb. Blick aus dem Fenster auf Müllkippe im Hof. Zimmerwechsel erst auf energisches Drängeln. Einzig die Lage ist gut; angesichts hoher Preise in Venedig- ein lausiges Hotel.

Väldigt bra område. Lite svårt att hitta men annars väldigt bra. Frukosten var inget att hurra för inte personalen hellet men annars så var hotellet bra framför allt läget.
