I loved it, the hotel was near to a supermarket, shops, tourist attraction, and subway. It was not expensive, very affordable, and the staff were very helpful. They spoke good english, and they provided tour information that was very helpful.

The hotel is pretty much as shown on pictures. Large lobby, a small restaurant with books/tv etc. Free wired internet in the rooms and free wifi in the lobby. Nice personel. Jade Hotel appears to have been a hostel that was converted to a more hotel-like model. I liked the casual, unpretentious atmosphere in the lobby, with a restaurant next door. My 5th floor room had decent space, a large window and was clean with crisp white bedsheets. The room didn't have WiFi, but they did provide a live ethernet cable, so I had to buy a cheap pocket WiFi router in one of those ubiquitous shopping complexes in Beijing in order to use my iPad. The location was reasonably convenient, only a little difficult to find at first. It's only a 15 minute walk to Wangfujing metro, and about a 20 minute walk to the entrance of the Forbidden City. They offered a half discounted rate for winter, which made it a good value, but if I had to pay full price perhaps I would have stayed somewhere else. Read more

Clean, safe, and handy. 1/2 mile walk to ForbiddenCity,1/2 mile to shopping street. Lydia at the desk was great. Have the phone # and get English speaking Tourist Info at the airport to write hotel details in Chinese for the taxi guy. Fare will be 80 -90 yuan. You'll get change and a receipt.

First of all, this is a hostel not a hotel. Mostly young students. The location is good, near the Forbidden City. The lobby is nice and the staff is friendly and speaks English very well. It was also quiet at night and I was able to sleep well. The hallway and rooms, though, were not clean. The hallway was very dimly lit and looked dusty and dirty, […] like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time and there was litter on the dirty dark carpet. The sheets had a hole and some stains, the sink was gunky and toilet was dirty and had hairs on the seat, although it had a "sanitized" strip on it. The shower was really grimey, especially in the corners. One of my lights was out in the room, but they sent someone up immediately to change the lightbulb. Wow this hotel is so close to the forbidden city, The bus stop is also half a block away. Beijing is super easy to get around in, Took the train and bus nearly everywhere and I don't speak a word of Mandarin. The bus and train are cheap as well. the bus is 1rmb and the train was 2rmb. I was very surprised at how nice this hotel was considering the low price and central location. The room and bathroom were clean, the restaurant pretty good, and the staff spoke English. Some of them were miserable at times- especially in the restaurant but it did not affect my stay. It is a hostel not a hotel, very basic... Hardly any housekeeping, issues with the bathroom, leakage, t.v not working. Staff very limited with english, not engaging, not interested in help you... I would not recommend this hotel. I was lured in by the very positive reviews at Expedia web site. Jade "hotel"/motel is in a good location, cheap and clean, but without air-conditioning, what would be maybe OK if not rather hot/humid weather during my stay in early May, so that it was impossible almost to stay in the room during the day and even nights […] were rather unpleasant. In addition my Chinese neighbor had his TV on very loudly at 10 pm while having his door open. After asking the downstairs service he closed the door. I got asleep around 11 pm. I was awakened by the same neighbor TV at 2 am. Initially he had his door open and then closed. But still I had really hard time to go back to sleep in this not air conditioned room. So, my overall experience was disappointing and even dreadful during this one night. Even in comparison with other cheap other Chinese hotels, this hotel cannot be recommended. The location of the Hotel is excellent. The down side is that the people at the front desk are not that welcoming or service oriented. The only one was Lidia, she is awesome. The laundry room is not worth using. The washer is fine, but the dryer takes about 4 or 5 hours to dry your clothes. At Beijing very few people know English, so you should give full address of this Hostel in Chinese. We got a card showing detail location only after reaching the Hostel. They do not provide pickup or drop service from local nearby Airport shuttle bus station at "Xidan". Though they display it at the front desk. Hotel is central, about 5-10 minute walk to wangfujing and next to forbidden city. It is down an alley way which can be quite dark at night. Taxi driver needed to call hotel to ask for directions as not well known. Stayed in standard twin room. Bathroom consisted of a shower cubicle and then a seperate cubicle for toilet and basin. Both were tiny and […] lead directly to room. If you sat on the toilet your knees would reach the sink and im only 5ft4. Privacy issue if you are staying with a friend. Bathroom still had hair from previous guest and mould everywhere. Toilets do mot flush properly. Cups were not cleaned and on one day beds were not made either. Cleaners always knocked on the door in the mornings even if we had do not disturb sign on the door. Hallways were dark and dirty. One of the dirtiest hotels I have ever stayed at. 1st room we were given smelled of stale ciggerate smoke, we asked to be changed as we are non smokers and got another room within minutes. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Hostel NOT Hotel. Full of noisy French students when we were there with no one apparently in charge or control of them. In fairness possibly not the hostel staffs fault, their teachers should have been keeping them under control. Except for some plumbing issues with WC, the hotel is really better than expected. It was freezing but the rooms and shower was so well heated. Stayed at the Jade hotel for 4 nights last week and found the hotel amazing value. The location (down a side alley in the old Hutong district 1 block from the wall of the forbidden city) was superb. When we called down to reception to inquire about it, we were told that "it's okay, three people can fit." So we spent our two nights here squished into a double bed.
