Hotel Villa Franca - Positano

We just returned from our stay at HVF. The hotel is even better than pictured. Our room was a nice size, clean and comfy. We were in the 'cellar' (lowest level) where there are only 4 rooms: #20-23... because of this, we didn't have quite the view the rooms above had. We are 30 and wanted a nice hotel but weren't able to afford the other luxuries the […] hotel offered. Positano in general is expensive but if you're looking to eat/spa at the hotel - be prepared - although I'm sure it would be top quality. And regarding the location, it is at the top of a hill. I had read reviews about the stairs and just thought people were lazy as all of Europe requires a little walking and climbing, but it requires a big effort (even for decently in shape 30 yr olds) to leave the hotel for the 'city' or beach. We counted about 300+ steps to a road that runs along the middle of the city - which you can then walk down a winding road with the main shops along it or take even more steps down to the beach level. There are some shops on the road near the hotel but for the main shopping, you have to get closer to the lower central part of Positano. If you have the money in your budget, and you plan to be out of the hotel most of the day (so the steps aren't a problem but once or twice a day), I'd recommend it. Read more

The hotel made a mistake with our reservation and tried to put us in another, lesser hotel after saying they had no rooms available (we were evenutally given a room in the basement). Front desk staff very unhelpful and unfriedly - they even set us up with a transfer to our next stop in Ravello that ended up costing 30% more than they said it would be. […] Great views and nice bar and restaurant. Our stay at the Villa Franco was wonderful except for the shuttle service. The last shuttle down to the shopping and beach area was at 11:30 and then didn't resume until 5pm. It would have been nice to have the shuttle make at least one more run to the bottom mid-afternoon to shuttle guests back to the hotel to prepare for dinner. Note- our stay was off-season and the service may be slightly different during a peak travel time. This hotel far exceeded our expectations! Our partial "ocean view" room was immaculate. Jacuzzi tub, lots of room to lounge, relax, or entertain. Fully stock fridge, hair dryer, large mirrors, ample closet space, beautiful balcony with excellent view of […] ocean and Positano. The service is even better than the room! Franco (server) and Alex (front desk) were beyond helpful in coordinating transportation, restaurant recommendations, tourist attractions etc. The staff remembered our names, drink orders, meal orders, down to how we took our coffee & tea. They were wonderful, hard workers willing to assist in anyway possible. The hotel is at the TOP of the Positano village and is a nice walk into down, but absolutely back breaking to return to the hotel. Taxi's were expensive, so take the hotel shuttle or local bus for a nominal fee to navigate through down. The only draw-back to this hotel is; if you leave and forget something, it's tough to get back up to Villa Franca. Streets in Positano are only 1 way, so you have to hike back up hills or steps, or travel through entire village (vehicle) to get back to top of the mountain. Read more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel (Room #45) and we were very disappointed with the condition of the bathroom. It has lots of mold on the ceiling and on the side walls. The toilet space is innadequate. We found ourselves resting our arms on the sink counter while we we're taking care of "business". The rest of the room was nice and very comfortable. […] We just felt that we paid a lot of money for a deteriorated room. Also, we went to dinner at the hotel's restaurant and nothing was fresh. Simply an amazing hotel. The views that you get from the hotel are amazing. The hotel is at the top of the mountain. They do provide a shuttle service if you are worried about walking. The shuttle takes you to the center of town, and its a nice 5 minute walk to the beach from the drop off point. Or if you are daring you can walk the entire way down […] the mountain from the stairs. Wow! A very nice stay in Positano, Italy. I would definitely stay again. Small hotel with resort feel. Staff very helpful and nice! Hotel was closer to what they call the city center and bus stop but since this city is on hillside one would consider the city enter towards the base. That did not matter as they had free shuttle to and from base of city […] where popular restaurants and shops are and beach area. They have a Spa which I did not use but prices for treatments looked reasonable to U.S. prices. The hotel pool is on the roof of hotel and over looks the city and beautiful ocean. Very nice! Our room decoration was modern and nice and we had a cute little balcony that had a view of the ocean. The room size was nice... bigger than the Italy standard. Flat screen TV in room with U.S. Channels. We ate at the hotel restaurant the both nights we stayed there. The food was fantastic! Lobster and pasta which was terrific! We loved the Hotel Villa Franca in Positano. We stayed in a room in the annex and although the room was quite small we were comfortable. The bathroom was large compared to the room and we had a balcony facing the sea and the town below. Prepare yourself for lots of walking and many stairs. It takes a good ten minutes to climb down from the hotel to […] the town and my knees did hurt after my two days going up and down. It's better to walk on the street because the slopes are not as hard on the knees. The hotel has a bus service down to the town, but it doesn't run 24 hours. Do check the times to make sure you don't miss it. (We did the first day.) Besides that inconvenience, the hotel afforded beautiful views and was away from the bustling noise. Although we didn't have dinner at the hotel, the breakfast was very good. There are several restaurants on the same road and of course the ones down at the beach. The accomodations are quite nice, although our room was small and did not have the view that the marketing materials had promised. The hotel provided a convenient shuttle to the retail/beach area that we used quite frequently. My one complaint is the hotel staff. With the exception of the dining room waitstaff, who were very helpful and courteous, I cannot recall making any other trip where the hotel staff was as rude and unresponsive as the staff at this establishment. There was a larger room available than what we had booked and we were placed in it. Room lovely with great view from the balcony. Spacious bathroom with robes/slippers. Room very clean. Beautiful, romantic hotel with outstanding views of the Amalfi Coast and beach. Decorating was fabulous, as was the service and restaurant. Included breakfast was delightful. This hotel is a top notch hotel. Everything was wonderful. My only concern was our room was located in the annex building down the street which was not convenient during a downpour when we got drenched. The hotel is situated on the very top of the hill with unbelievably breathtaking views. Make sure to rent a room with a terrace! If you have strong legs - it is exactly 700 steps down to the beach level, if not - there is a free shuttle bus available. Very friendly staff, good restaurant. I think it is a gem not to be missed.

The hotel was beautiful. The location was great. It was at the top of the mountain with beautiful views. My only complaint was the shuttle schedule was very odd. The last shuttle of the day to go down the mountain was 11AM and the next shuttle to go back up was at 5:00 PM. Best view in Postiano! I would stay there again and recommend to ALL of my friends. It is approx. 10 min walk via steep stairs but again I would not let that deter myself from staying here. Beautiful hotel. Great views, common areas and food. The courtesy mini-bus to the beach and back is an excellent service. The rooms are fairly small but it doesn't matter because we either spent time away from the hotel or sat on our balcony with amazing views. The pool area upstairs is very comfortable and luxurious.
