Parkside International Hotel - Reading

I am glad I stayed there. Was convenient to Green Park area where I had work for a few days. I even walked a couple times and took about an hour and there is a nice foot path. The hotel staff helped me with quite a few request and were great about it. My room was a bit rundown with some peeling paint and some other needs, but was satisfactory. I ate […] one meal in the restaurant, pasta, and it was not very good. But, they had some good beer and bitters on draught. Free wifi Internet access was limited. Hotel is in a mostly residential area with a big open park a half mile away and a good pub/ restaurant nearly across the street. Read more

A new hotel with just basic ammenities but reasonably priced, clean and staff were professional and courteous. 20 min walk to town centre. Good breakfast for a fair price. No real facilities for children but great for people looking for a basic place to stay for a night or two.

Parkside International sounds grand and opulent- the entrance to the car park and the car park quickly dispels it. Though the foyer and reception raise hope. Room was spacious and functional and clean. Though the sound proof layer was non existant. All in all toy my purpose a one night business stay it sufficed and was within budget

The room was very reasonable, with a few minor stains on the carpet and shower curtain. It might have been good to be informed about the procedure for returning late at night, as I had to wait for the one person, at reception, to let me in. The staff during my stay felt limited, especially when I had to check out, and the one member of staff was in […] the kitchens of the restaurant. The location was convenient, particularly in relation to the locations on Tilehurst Road. The shower was very easy to work, and the Wi-Fi seemed fair for a general use. We booked this hotel due to the convenience location to our work. The food at the bar was good, but quite expensive. The toilet seat in the room was broken as was the toilet roll holder. We had to request a spare toilet roll. The door to the balcony was drafty, the door handle missing and would not lock, which made the room noisy as it was on a busy […] main road. After an early start we went to bed at 10.30 pm only to be woken by an hotel alarm at 11.15 pm and then 3.15 am and also at 7.15 pm. We initially thought the alarm was due to some device in the room and ended up unplugging the t.v. etc. Another guest confirmed the alarm went off throughout the hotel and staff had told him to ignore it!! In the morning there was no mention of the alarm by members of staff, no apology. Finally, the breakfast was good, but I had thought it was included in the price - o.k. my mistake. Used hotel for Reading Festival, which is about a 40 minute walk from the hotel to actually getting into the festival. A 15-20 minute walk to the main road. Hotel was very clean and room was excellent, with the only check mark being made that maybe the bathtub could use a bit of an upgrade

All okay, except no cash machine nearby, and the bedroom window did not shut properly. A few scuff marks here and there on the walls, but for that area quite reasonable value. No problems with the staff.

The hotel is a little ramshackle, even though it looks like it was built quite recently. The duvet cover had stains on it, the bedspread and some towels had holes. The taps in the bath were in a bad condition and not very cleverly fitted. Lighting in the room was very dim. Staff did not seem to be bothered. After midnight, there is no swipe facility […] to get into the hotel - you have to knock on the door and wait for the night staff to open the door. We stood outside for 10 mins at one point. I have stayed at this hotel a number of times and it is cheap and functional but nothing more. On this occassion my rooom was not very clean and all i could smell was stale smoke. Unfortunately durring the night the fire alarm sounded several times and insisted on going off for 10 minutes at a time. There were also a large number of teenagers staying […] at the hotel who insisted on slamming doors and shouting as load as possible down the corridors. Travelled to the Hotel in early evening, but November meant it was dark and the Hotel's sign was not well lit, so drove slightly past before spotting it. Staff that were around were very helpful and polite, but there were not many (only 2 customer facing staff) on evening of check-in. Had to wait a short while to be served at the bar. Food was up […] to hotel bar standard, good but not excellent. As this was the first time I'd stayed here, I searched the Bedroom for a "Guest's guide to facilities", there wasn't one. Upon searching cupboards, I found the tea / coffee tray, but no Iron / Ironing board, so be prepared - probably you could borrow one, but I didn't need to ask. Bedroom lighting was a bit too dim for working / reading. Overall, I was happy with the hotel, but it's clear that to offer a lower priced service than some hotels, corners are cut in terms of added extras / service, but not where it really counts, so not really a problem. Bathroom was clean with decent towels, shampoo, soap etc. Bedroom, bed, Tea / Coffee / Kettle etc. all fine. Customer Service okay, although a touch slow. Money has been saved in areas such as guest guides, (no room service?), bar / breakfast menus. Read more

Fairly modern clean hotel and in good location. Good value for money. However bathroom sink hot water tap did not work, and I thought 4 small pots of milk for 4 nights stay a bit mean.

The hotel looks like it will be nice when approaching the reception however looks are deceiving. The rooms are very small & need updating and the bar/restaurant is poorly arranged and does not give you that comfort feeling. On this visit my room had dirt on the floor and the bins had not been emptied but worst of all was the rusty water in the kettle. […] Prior to this visit I had stayed before and my room was clean however still small but what I would expect for a budget hotel. I gave it a try based on price - I can claim for hotels up the equivalent price of a Travelodge or Premier Inn - and was impressed. It is only a budget hotel so there are no particular 'frills'. However, everything was clean and well maintained, the staff were efficient and friendly and the food was fine, both the evening meal and breakfast. Best of […] all, there are rooms for smokers! Good service. Good breakfast, although I had to pay separately for it. The room was at the end of the corridor, and it was nice and quiet, as I loved it and needed good night's rest after a long flight. Just the TV in the room didn't work, but I'm not really a TV person, so I didn't even claim. Wi-fi worked well in the lounge area, which was good enough […] for me. I have long hair and needed a hair dryer, so I asked for it and the reception lady was kind to hand me one to take it to my room. Good location. There are buses that stop at about 3-4 min walk from the hotel. In my case it was the summer season fee, so it costed only 1 pound for a single ticket to town centre. Good hotel! Read more
