"Nice quiet room in good neighborhood"
We stayed on a very busy night, Valentine's Day. It was a quiet hotel, very clean and the location was fabulous. I thought the breakfast was very good and the people who worked there were very nice, too. Highly recommend!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Charming SF Stay"
My boyfriend and I stayed for a just one night on New Year's Eve. This is a very charming and comfortable establishment with excellent hospitality. The breakfast provided in the morning was wonderful with quiche and eggs cooked to order along with an upscale continental style breakfast. We have continued telling our friends and family about our stay […] and would love to come back to have a "tourist weekend" in the city across the bridge from us as we live in the East Bay. "Had a great stay"
The Monte Cristo isn't the largest or most spacious place that you'll ever stay, but the character is true to the age of the building. The food and beverages were great, bed was comfortable & clean, & the ambience was perfect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Small place, big service"
The biggest plus for this small bed and breakfast was its accommodating and efficient staff. Although the hours are limited as to when staff is present, they made sure to address all needs. I would not hesitate to stay at the Monte Cristo again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely place with lovely people"
We just stayed for one night, the next morning we were in a rush, a very lovely lady packed our breakfast for to go. We mentioned we were heading over to the Stanford-Berkeley game, she packed us some extra trek mix for snacking!! We felt bad that we couldn't spend more time talking to her, she is so lovely so caring! Carl was the front desk taking […] care of our check-in and reservation, very friendly and helpful person! They have cute vintage furniture, the breakfast ambience was cozy, we could always smell good food even when we were in our room!! Will com back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It's a very safe neighborhood that is close for exploring the Presidio. We enjoyed viewing the beautiful upscale homes nearby. Hilly San Francisco at its finest. Lyon St. Steps was a good workout.Genuine Expedia guest review
Wonderful weekend in San Francisco after a long absence. The experience was rendered even more memorable by this quaint hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Happy with my stay."
Hotel was quaint (older) with up dated bathrooms. Location was good for my purposes. Breakfast was excellent. Management was not always available during the day. A little expensive but this is San Francisco (I have stayed at the superb Sofitel Hotel in LA for less).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quiet friendly bed and breakfast"
Very quiet. Hospitable facility and staff. Delicious Breakfast. Cool bathrooms....Genuine Expedia guest review
"A hidden gem off the beaten path."
We enjoyed our stay very much. The innkeeper was friendly, helpful & assisted us with our luggage. The inn was comfortable, clean & cozy. Our room was equally as good. The dining area had homemade cookies, fruit, coffee & tea in the afternoons & evenings. The breakfast was excellent. Quiche or omelet, yogurt, fruit salad, sweet bread, juice, coffee […] & teas were available. The living area had books, magazines, San Francisco newspaper & was comfortable & nicely furnished. It was convenient to a bus stop so we rode bus & transferred to a cable to to get around. We will stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice B&B in quiet area of town"
Good breakfast, tea / coffee / cookies available at night, clean room with nice beds and decor.Genuine Expedia guest review
Rooms were uncomfortably hot. No A/C, one window, no screen. Table fan in room.Breakfast room and common room, stuffy, no air movement at all. Just too hot for my taste. Manager Terry very helpful and accommodating. Jack, I think the owner, not a friendly person at all.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall enjoyed our stay although somewhat disappointed in level of service given price. Suggestions:1. have a one page guide summarizing parking options and recommended best practices. It was a constant hassel trying to find a location. On our arrival we were referred to a parking garage "near the university campus" which we never found, even in daylight. […] 2. Breakfast options were quite limited - consider expanding.Having said that we did enjoy our stay and found the location quite convenient. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Manager, hostess and house-keeping staff were great--friendly, accommodating and professional. The facility is storied to be an old brothel, and bears the charm of the original hardwood floors and woodwork. Our room was small and sometimes stuffy, but it was otherwise very comfortable with a king size bed, adequate closet and dresser, and a well-appointed […] modern bathroom. The room was surprisingly quiet, both with respect to road noise and other guests. And we always returned at the end of the day to a clean, neat room. Then there was the excellent breakfast (quiche, eggs made to order, fresh fruit, pastries, etc.) and snacks available at all hours. The Monte Cristo has my recommendation. "Count on the Monte Cristo"
Comfort, that's the word. What a nice comfortable place. Safe, well-located for my visit to Haight-Ashbury, too. The room was cleaner than necessary.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Welcoming city bed and breakfast"
The Monte Cristo Inn is a warm and welcoming bed and breakfast in a residential section of San Francisco. It is very clean and well kept. The beds are fresh and comfortable. The owners have tried to think of everything. The bathrooms are modern even though it is an historical building filled with antique furniture. Our room had a flat screen TV, Wifi […] is free and there is a computer and printer available for guest use, also free of charge. Breakfast is delightful with fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt and granola. Eggs are made to order. In the afternoon, there is coffee, tea and refreshments available for guests as well. "Nice bed and breakfast"
We enjoyed this B&B. The room was very clean and comfortable, bathroom was fantastic! Stairs may be a challenge for older guests. Only complaint was the lack of restaurants in close walking distance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fabulous mother/daughter get away!"
I recently spent a long weekend with my 13 year old daughter at the Monte Cristo Inn. We had a great time exploring some San Francisco sites, including Fisherman's Warf (especially the last day when we finally saw some sea lions!), the Golden Gate Bridge, finding the "Full House" house and "The Princess Diaries" school, the Cliff House/bath ruins, the […] Palace of Fine Arts, and of course Cable Car riding! Our favorite dinner was the first night at Scoma's and our favorite dessert was hot fudge sundaes at Ghirardelli Square. However, we both agreed that staying at the Monte Cristo was the best part of our trip. Our room and the entire Inn were spotless. We loved the décor - combining mostly antiques with some new modern touches. We ate delicious breakfasts - loved ALL the fruit and especially the sourdough toast and French toast on the last day! We really enjoyed our daily chats with the hostess Terry about what we had done the day before and what we had planned for the day. And at the end of each exhausting day climbing the hills of San Fran we looked forward to returning to the Monte Cristo for the snack of delicious homemade cookies and fresh fruits and collapsing in our luxurious beds! We will definitely be back! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not too far from the Medical Centerq"
This was our first time at a B and B and thanks to Teri we were very happy! She is so friendly and makes you feel at home plus she's an excellent cook and if she can, she'll make you whatever you'd like for breakfast. The only draw back was the parking, or lack of.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Home away from home"
I was looking for a place to stay close to my family in Laurel Heights. What a fantastic property. Easy to park, warm lovely staff, beautiful historic 1800's brothel turned into a B&B. VERY CLEAN, full of charm, and breakfast was lovely, with even made to order eggs if you ask nicely. I will look for reasons to stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A beautiful B&B with an inspiring atmosphere, great attention to detail, just a fantastic ambiance all around. I really enjoyed my stay and the free street parking was an added bonus.Genuine Expedia guest review
This cozy B and B offers old charm in an updated fashion. Although our room was too warm and the tv didn't get reception, we'd stay again. There is a sitting room that has a flat screen tv so we could watch there. Breakfast was great. Quiche and eggs with sourdough toast on request. Comfy bed.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great B&B in the heart of San Francisco"
My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary and we enjoined it. The house is pretty old and has lots of character. They have one of those Japanese toilets which washes your butt. Pretty cool. The only downside was breakfast: most of the items offered were bought at Costco. While staying in a B&B, I rather having something fresh made.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great place to stay at SF"
The Monte Cristo Inn is much better than I thought when I finally get there. Though the room is a little bit small, it's very clean and nice. The service is great, people there are kind and polite, and the maid is very friendly. You can get free buffet every morning and maid-cooking bacon & eggs if you want.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel/breakfast but no AC"
The hotel was great and had an excellent breakfast. My only complaint is that for AC you have to leave your window open to get cool air from outside. The service, however, is great. We had to leave early one morning and they made us to go breakfast bags since we would miss the morning breakfast. The hotel is near several bus lines and on street par […] king. Nice place. It is a typical B&B. An older hotel with updated bathroom, TV, etc. Location was in a good, safe neighborhood. Parking was tough as there is no place to park at the hotel. The guys running the place were great, attentive and very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"First B & B Experience"
I was reluctant to stay at one as I'm not one to mingle. It was very much like staying in a hotel. The whole place was beautifully done. The food was excellent. I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our daughter made the reservations, so we came to the Monte Cristo Inn not knowing much about it. We were delighted. Our room was comfortable, newly remodeled in the historical period of the building. We loved sitting in the parlor in the afternoon enjoying a cup of coffee and a cookie, The breakfast offered quite an array of options, of which all were […] great. Jack and Terry made us feel very welcome. The only downside is since the Inn is in the center of San Francisco, parking was hard to find. We'll definitely stay here again! "Good value & location"
A very nice b&b in a restored boarding house, with beautiful wood floors and a homey feel. The breakfast was excellent and the staff very helpful and accommodating. The rooms are cozy and well-furnished, and the bathrooms were restored recently with nice modern fixtures.Genuine Expedia guest review
Everything was great! Would stay here again in a heartbeat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I have told all of my friends about this place, that is they go to San Francisco, they must stay here.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to university and San Francisco sights"
Hotel is listed as a bed and breakfast. It is very comfortable and informal. Parking is tough, but that is true of all of San Francisco. Old fashioned but well renovated. Breakfast was nice but more limited than I expected for a b&b - it had a continental breakfast bar and offered toast and eggs or a quiche (Costco). Muffins were store bought (other […] b&b's I know offer a full breakfast with homemade specialties). Liked that they have coffee and fruit/snacks available 24 hours. "Leaves me wanting more, but somewhere else"
We chose the Monte Cristo because of its proximity to family, and for that it was a good fit. The B&B is initially pleasing but after a few nights it is repetitive. The breakfast is tastefully presented and has lots of healthy options but seems to be opened from packaged products and put in trendy bowls. You can order eggs and such from the kitchen […] but that seems to be the extent of the on-site preparation. The coffee is from a pump pot but is piping hot and very tasty. The woman in charge on site is incredibly kind and accommodating. She was the bright star of the stay. The house is noisy, especially if you get the room under the stairs. The rooms have nice antique-looking furniture but less furniture would be better as it would give more room in the room. The bathroom has a bidet-like toilet seat add-on to wash your bottom. Novel, at least for us, and another feature we don't really need. The biggest disappointment was the Internet service. Wireless access is free, but you get what you pay for. The signal was weak and download speeds so slow as to be almost useless. Had to unplug the phone as it began emitting strange beeps and such. We think it was channeled through the cable for the TV and was affected by that. All-in-all we would probably try another B&B next time, at least to have a comparison. "Great neighborhood, great rooms"
Nice old building with modern facilities. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was tasty. Bathrooms were fully up to date (great shower head, super modern toilet). Fast WiFi with no device restrictions. I loved walking around the neighborhoods in the area.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Home away from home"
Our suite was a perfect combination of 19th century antique bedroom decor with state-of-the-art bathroom fixtures. The included breakfasts offered a wide range of tasty food, including fresh melon, berries and pineapple and custom-cooked eggs. Jack, Terry and Carl couldn't have been nicer. "Easy stay for business travel."
Love the little treats at the end of a long work day. Close to many restaurants in walking distance. Always sleep well, very quiet, always surprised to see other guests at breakfast since I never hear them.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great except for the parking"
We enjoyed our stay at the Monte Cristo, but the parking situation is very unfortunate. With the exception of a very few unlimited spots right in front of the hotel that are always taken, everyplace else requires you to move your car every 2 hours during the day.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
