Stay was great. Rooms were comfortable. Service was exceptional but we were COMPLETELY taken back by the "partial ocean view" room that required us to be on the balcony looking directly over 4 other balconies to see the ocean. The view from the room was garden and parking/road next door. The front desk clerk who guided us to the room explained what […] a partial ocean view meant and told us we could pay more if we wanted to see the ocean from inside our room and not the lanai. We were on our anniversary and ordered the most expensive ocean view room vis hotel.com. When we arrived we were given a room with a sliver of ocean view and were told that if we wanted to see the ocean we needed to pay even more for an ocean front which is not even listed on hotel.com. We ended up paying more and enjoying the stay but the confusion […] over the words view versus front was disappointing and should be clarified between the hotel and hotel.com. In addition we had to move three times during the length of a seven day stay in order to have an ocean front view. The staff at this resort were outstanding. I felt like a welcomed guest, not just another vacationer. I also thought the "green car" hourly rental was a great alternative to renting a car. I expected my ocean front room to have a "nothing but ocean" view, but it was actually located in the building toward the back of the property with adjoining balconies […] where I could hear absolutely everything that was said on the neighbouring balconies (and inside the neighbouring rooms if the patio door was open). We loved everything about this hotel...the rooms were lovely and quiet! Our partial ocean view room had a great view of the ocean. The pool and hot tub were perfect and the beach access is right there! The staff was amazing and so friendly. They knew us by name after only a couple of days. You must try the restaurant. The room was pretty nice. The biggest problem was temperature control. The bed has a down comforter .. in Hawaii .. really. I didn't find that climate appropriate. They are a bit stingy too, not getting the big picture of providing for their guests ... only 1x water at night even though the room had 2 people. Also, they have a Netspresso machine for […] in room coffee. But, regardless of how long you stay, you only get 4x comp'd. You have to buy more at the desk if you need them. On the whole, it was a pretty nice place. Restaurant, Red Salt, was awesome. Amazingly, no restaurant at the adjacent Marriott. But, the Plantation Garden restaurant was equally as good. Koa Kea is a great place to stay in Kauai. This was my second stay there, and if I am to visit Kauai again in the nearest future, I am not going to try to find a better place. Just about everything about the hotel is top-notch. The rooms are nice, convenient, and clean. The staff is super-helpful. The location is convenient (30 min from the Linue airport, […] almost in the middle of the island's main road, and Poipu is sunnier than many other regions of the island). The plaza inside the resort is nice and the cocktails in the bar are good. The restaurant is rather pricey, but there are many other options within 15 min driving radius. The resort is small, so it feels nice and personal. The only drawback is the lack of a swimming beach right in front of the resort, but the neighboring resorts have it, and it is a 2 min walk. Super sweet spot in Poipu if you like smaller hotels and don't want the hassle of a big one. Staff is super friendly and helpful. We spent the week of March 18th at the hotel and really enjoyed it. This year my wife & I decided to each do a "mystery vacation". I set it up, and she found out about the destination when we arrived at the airport. The staff was very responsive to your needs and everything was extremely clean and tidy. With two very large resorts on either side of […] the hotel, you felt very special due to the smaller size and space you enjoyed. We had a room with a partial ocean view and above the public beach access. I didn't notice any noise in the room. There was a rare monk seal on the beach by the hotel on two afternoons that was nice to see. There were also lots of surfers riding waves in front of the hotel due to a rock reef separating the beaches. The beach to the west of the hotel is small, but the larger beach to the east could be accessed easily via the walkway. Prior comments indicate that the staff know and address you by name after the first day, but we never saw that. Also I have AT&T cell service for my I-Phone and only received two bars at best for reception. Wi-Fi reception was also sporadic with our laptop and Nook reader shutting off periodically with no reception. Overall though, it was a very relaxing vacation, nice pool & pool bar, and great staff service. Read more
