The Koa Kea is a little jewel among the bigger high rise hotels on Poi Pui Beach. From our balcony we had an expansive view of the ocean and watched the sun set at night. There is the right amount of everything to make you feel pampered and happy - beautiful rooms, great food, impeccable service, an uncrowded pool and spa set in lush tropical gardens all with that terrific view.

We went to Kauai to get married and were looking for a romantic (not family friendly place to stay). We picked this hotel after reading reviews and Expedia and we were not disappointed. It is amazing boutique hotel and probably the best place to stay in Kauai if you are looking for a romantic place... Hotel is small but beautiful, staff is really attentive and friendly. Room was clean and housekeepers did a great job. There is an amazing beach right by the hotel and you can snorkeling gear right at Koa Kea. We saw turtles, monk seal and a bunch of beautiful fishes.. Pool was relaxing as well. Not crowded and no kids... Just plain fun.. The best place to stay in Kauai!

This Hotel is a relatively small "Boutique Hotel" in the south shore of Kauai. The Koa Kea has very comfortable and clean rooms, partially with ocean view. From the (quite) pool area you have direct access to the Poipu Beach, which is a nice beach for snorkeling and surfing. The beach itself is not exactly perfect for swimming as you will find a lot of rocks in the water. However it is still a good beach. The pool in the hotel is nice, but don't expect an olympic size pool, it is rather small. The Hotel is embedded in a resort area, next to the Marriot's Waiohai Beach Club. This has the advantage that you can use some of their amenities, like the Starbucks Coffee served in their Deli. However the Koa Kea has also a good restaurant, serving breakfast and dinner. The Hotel Staff is very friendly and helpful. I can recommend this hotel.

It truly was an awesome stay. The staff is extremely attentive in the most minimal details. It is all you want from a vacation. If you like being pampered, this is the place for you! And if you like Sushi, Justin prepares it right in front of you at the bar Tue-Sat 5-9pm. Definitely a treat.

It was great. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Anything we needed we got. The only down side was that we were with friends who had allergies to down and feathers. (yes that is a bit of a pun). The staff did take away all of the bedding with down, but that then left the bed and pillows very hard. They apparently don't have down substitute luxury bedding options. My husband and I both loved the down bedding so we were very happy.

We had a wonderful stay at Koa Kea. We felt welcomed and cared for. The staff were hospitable and gracious. The valets and front desk staff were a delight to talk with and very helpful with volunteering information and asking how things were. The accommodations and decor throughout the resort were simply stunning - just love that dual head walk-in shower! We especially appreciated the room upgrade to "partial ocean view". :) My beautiful wife and I felt this was a perfect little spot for our honeymoon. We were nuts about the hot tub and pool. Small item: one night we wanted to watch a movie and felt the selection was meager. First world problems, I guess ;) go and enjoy! Kauai is marvelous!

Koa Kea is supposed to be the best hotel on Kona. They call themselves 'boutique'. Boutique should mean something special, unfortunately, there is nothing special about Koa Kea. The hotel is small, and looks like a renovated motel. Small does not equal boutique. Small rooms, small pool, and one restaurant is fine, but for a 5 star price, I was expecting something very special. Some annoyances: no top sheet on the bed. Had to request twice for the top sheet to be added. Only one bottle of water per day, even if two people are staying in the room. Hear water running through the pipes of neighboring rooms. No pool/beach towels available until the guy arrives and decides to open his towel kiosk at 9am. Waiting 1hour 15min for room service, and the order was wrong... They try to make up for the short comings with a Nespresso machine in the room and Occitane products. Nice but, not good enough. If you want to pay the same and have a great hotel, go to Grand Hyatt. If you want a nice hotel and cheaper price, go to Sheraton.

We loved our stay at the Koa Kea. it was our first visit to Hawaii and the terrific staff at the Koa Kea amplified our pleasant and worthwhile experience. The location at Poipu Beach was excellent, and our room, which had a partial view, was very clean and comfortable. We would definitely consider staying there again if we return to Kauai.

We stayed here for two nights to see the South and West shore of Kauai. The first part of our trip we stayed at Kapaa and I got to say that it was a better location than South shore. Not too many restaurants on the South shore and those that are there are just fancy places costing a ton. The room at this hotel was very luxurious, nice sheets, remodeled bathroom with double showers etc. The restaurant on the location Red Salt was good too, although expensive like everything else at this resort. They had valet only parking. Throughout, the entire staff was acting like they were your servants waiting to take orders. They insisted on walking us to the room and carrying our luggage. Can I complain about too much service? I guess we are just not the "resort" kind of people and like to mind our own business!

Beautiful design if you like modern urban clean design. Staff goes out of outs way to help. Good location on beach but small (1-2 ft) reef immediately near hotel. Small sandy beach 10 ft away. Area is populated w hotels and time shares so it is not a secluded beach hotel. Great restaurant on site with prices that are reasonable. Nice room service with no added charges.

Super comfortable and quiet hotel, great for couples. We were on our honeymoon and couldn't have asked for a better place. There are not a lot of rooms at Koa Kea so its very quaint and quiet. The hotel staff was amazing and helped us with whatever we needed. The restaurant, Red Salt was 5 star dining. The hotel is located in a great area over looking the ocean, and has a nice snorkel spot to the side. Rooms were super clean and were very new and modern looking. The beds were also very comfortable. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

My husband and I just returned from our stay at Koa Kea. I don't normally write reviews but we had such a fabulous stay I wanted to be sure and pass along our great reviews of this hotel. From the very minute we arrived the staff and hotel impressed us. The room (ocean view) was lovely - very clean, crisp linens and all the amenities you could wish for. We had a number of meals in the restaurant and were very impressed with the food and the attentive staff. Our last morning there my husband ordered the lemon soufflé/pancake breakfast. It was delicious! We were traveling without our children and I selected this hotel because it appeared from reviews there would not be many children. Thankfully that was the case - a few teenagers but mainly adults looking to relax in peace & quiet. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation!

The staff was one of the most friendly I have ever met. They were also a wealth of information. The rooms were comfortable and the bathroom had a nice spacious shower with a rain head! Room service was very nice and they even set up our dinner out on our lanai. The only problem was actually finding the hotel since it is tucked between some larger hotels. My only complaint is that they could use larger signage on the road.

When choosing a hotel to stay in Kauai I didn't want your "typical" hotel feel. You know high rise, take the elevator many flights to your room feel. Although it is 3 stories you don't feel that, nor do you feel like you're in a motel either. I guess this kind of hotel is called a "boutique" hotel. LOL...I'm not quite sure the meaning of that, but if it means you feel comfortable and special there then "boutique" it is. To give you an example: "We" was spotted by the valet walking into the lobby and by the time we reached the curb our car was waiting for us. Did this happen every time? No, but just once or twice was good enough! The rooms were beautiful, the colors were contemporary with an island feel. Not your typical Hawaiian/floral print/colors (BARF)! I will stay here our next visit to Kauai most definitely!

We found the original room a bit small and overlooking the adjacent Marriott property and the ocean. We upgraded to an ocean front ground floor and were delighted. The staff is exceptional. It is a smaller hotel with a lovely pool, and grassy ocean front lounge area. There is a beach walk that fronts the property and adjoins the other 4 properties along that bay. The Red Salt restaurant on the property is very good for breakfast and dinner. The pool bar made great drinks. We stayed here 3 nights as a final stop before returning home and couldn't have been happier. More suited for adults than children..

Stay was great. Rooms were comfortable. Service was exceptional but we were COMPLETELY taken back by the "partial ocean view" room that required us to be on the balcony looking directly over 4 other balconies to see the ocean. The view from the room was garden and parking/road next door. The front desk clerk who guided us to the room explained what a partial ocean view meant and told us we could pay more if we wanted to see the ocean from inside our room and not the lanai. This left a bad taste in our mouths and was the negative of the stay. Unfortunate.

My husband and I stayed at the Ko'a Kea to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I absolutely picked the right place! So charming, romantic and lovely! This boutique hotel was perfect in every way. PERFECT. First of all, the Management knows what they are doing. Every single employee here has obviously been trained very well. They are there to serve you and to make you happy in every way possible. It was amazing! We were treated like royalty. This hotel is small, quiet, beautiful and very very clean. It's not for kids. It was so serene and peaceful. The pool area was very quiet as well. This is a completely non smoking hotel (Thank you). All you breathe is fresh salty oceany air when you are on their property. We had an ocean front room and we both loved it. The restaurant was superb and sushi night was terrific. Delicious food..not for kids though. Please don't bring your kids here. My husband and I both treated ourselves to a massage and I have to give a shout out to you WENDY! YOU WERE AMAZING! What a bone melter she was. She is a very very talented and skilled masseuse. Best I've ever ever had. Ask for Wendy. You have to. I appreciated the Nespresso coffee in the morning, the gigantic bath towels and the complimentary bottled water every day ;) I loved it so much and appreciated the sincerity of every one who worked there. They were all wonderful. Thank you for the most incredible stay.

We were on our anniversary and ordered the most expensive ocean view room vis hotel.com. When we arrived we were given a room with a sliver of ocean view and were told that if we wanted to see the ocean we needed to pay even more for an ocean front which is not even listed on hotel.com. We ended up paying more and enjoying the stay but the confusion over the words view versus front was disappointing and should be clarified between the hotel and hotel.com. In addition we had to move three times during the length of a seven day stay in order to have an ocean front view. Other than that everything about the hotel, place, beach was perfect and would recommend it highly.

We had such a disappointing experience with the hotel manager - Chris. When booking at a hotel of this standard I expect good customer service. I've never had a worse experience with a hotel manager in any 3+ star hotel. Chris seems really pleasant until you a concern. We had a partial ocean view room but there was no view of the ocean what so ever from the room. Chris asked how our room was and I told him I was a little disappointed there was no ocean view from our room. He replied, "is that a problem". I said, I would let him determine if it was a problem that I was disappointed that our partial ocean view had no view. He offered to see if there were other rooms they could show me. The front desk told me there were other rooms but none with views. It found it insulting that he would show me rooms that were basically no better.

A nice, newer property on the water with beautiful views. Staff is attentive. A very nice place. Two things to know: (1) Beach access is a short, easy walk (1-2 minutes), but the hotel does not have its own beach. This is because the area in front of the hotel is rocks, not sand. So the hotel fronts on the water, but not the beach. The lounge area is a nice grass area that is a few yards back from rock, ocean-front area. (2) "Ocean View" rooms do not actually face the ocean; they face the pool and lounge area, and have angled views of the ocean. They are very nice views, but not direct ocean views. The "Ocean Front" rooms have direct ocean views. (But as noted above, none of the rooms have direct to-beach access.)

Koa Kea is smaller than the gigantic resorts but large enough to have an exceptionally helpful staff. While it is not easy to get around Kauai without the expense of rental car, the resort has limited availability of hourly rental cars and a number of good restaurants are within reasonable walking distance. The hotel's own Red Salt restaurant is exceptional.

The staff at this resort were outstanding. I felt like a welcomed guest, not just another vacationer. I also thought the "green car" hourly rental was a great alternative to renting a car. I expected my ocean front room to have a "nothing but ocean" view, but it was actually located in the building toward the back of the property with adjoining balconies where I could hear absolutely everything that was said on the neighbouring balconies (and inside the neighbouring rooms if the patio door was open). Not sure what type of room you'd have to upgrade to to get the one right on the ocean, but based on the price I paid I expected to get it!

The pool and hot tub were perfect and the beach access is right there! The staff was amazing and so friendly. They knew us by name after only a couple of days. You must try the restaurant. The sushi was a great appetizer and the seafood was prepared perfectly! The only thing we would have changed is to have waiters at the pool so you didn't have to go to the bar to get your cocktail, but that may just be pure vacation laziness! We will definitely be back!

The staff were very friendly and seemed to know our names after the first night. Not as many guests from Thanksgiving to April, so it was not crowded at all. We enjoyed the Dining Room and poolside bar.

We stayed at Koa Kea in Poipu for 5 days, and St. Regis in Princeville for 5. They were both nice, but completely different. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of Koa Kea. The food was okay, but overpriced. The staff was very nice and helpful, although the wait staff in the Red Salt restaurant was consistently slow (maybe it's just 'island time'). Thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

The stay was great. The service was excellent. The staff was great during the Tsunami warning. We had clear instructions on what to do. It proved to be only a minor inconvenience. I will absolutely stay there again.

This hotel is amazing. If you're looking for a place to stay on Kauai then stop your search now and just book here. It has a perfect location right next to a sandy, beautiful beach. Every person on the staff I interacted with was helpful and friendly. I'm normally not a big review writer, but I had to come here and say great things about Koa Kea. They'll take good care of you.

We stayed for just one night as a quick getaway. The property is nicely maintained, the staff is friendly and the rooms are a nice size. The hotel had more of a couples feel to it, which was nice for a romantic getaway. We ate in the Red Salt restaurant on property and the food was excellent and the wine was affordable priced. The location is great and the beach is just steps away. We would definitely go back.

The room was pretty nice. The biggest problem was temperature control. The bed has a down comforter .. in Hawaii .. really. I didn't find that climate appropriate. They are a bit stingy too, not getting the big picture of providing for their guests ... only 1x water at night even though the room had 2 people. Also, they have a Netspresso machine for in room coffee. But, regardless of how long you stay, you only get 4x comp'd. You have to buy more at the desk if you need them. On the whole, it was a pretty nice place. Restaurant, Red Salt, was awesome. Amazingly, no restaurant at the adjacent Marriott. But, the Plantation Garden restaurant was equally as good. Also check out the Tapas restaurant down the street near the round-a-bout. Lots of other eating places there too.

The staff made for a great stay at Ko'a Kea. Everyone is super friendly, service is 2nd to none. They clean your room twice daily and if you have your privacy sign up they'll leave a message on your phone letting you know that they skipped your room and they are on call to clean the room whenever you're ready. Valet/Bellhop guys are quick, friendly, and offer very good recommendations to local restaurants. The hotel is clean, quiet, and service is A+. What more can you ask for?

Everything was first rate. you get what you pay for. Staff was ultra helpful, upon learning we were going to the beach, one porter fetched beach towels, another brought an icebox full of ice and another gave us directions to the beach. Just really good service from all involved.

From our arrival to when we reluctantly left, the Koa Kea staff and facility didn't disappoint. The staff were pleasant and professional and our room was comfortable with a great view. This is truly a romantic destination, complete with beauty and style. We took the breakfast option and enjoyed food from both the breakfast bar and the menu. Even the gratuity was included. We ate dinner one time in Red Salt, the in house restaurant, and found it excellent. Our second floor ocean view room looked over the pool and on to the ocean. Ask for the second floor for the best views and privacy. We wanted a romantic location for our anniversary and from the complimentary champagne to the well appointed and quiet room, we got it. A wonderful time.

Amazing service, including little touch ups every time we left the room. New bottles of water, ice, fresh towels, additional toiletries. Great massage at the spa, great food at the restaurant, great pool, and great beaches steps away.
