I have my share of experience at both ends of the hotels, from the lowest including the local boutique motels in the wild west's middle of nowhere, to the highest including Ritz-Carlton, Mandarin Oriental, and Waldorf Astoria, but amongst all these places, this "esteemed" Ariva Beijing West Hotel did the honor of bestowing me with the greatest humiliation. Upon […] the checkout, you will see that they will always "phone" someone. You will note that they are calling the housekeeping to check the condition of the room before we finalize the payment. After approximately 10 minutes of having to listen to their phone conversation, the lady "kindly" let me know of the additional $10 dollar that was to be deducted from my deposit because of the coffee stain that I made on a small bathroom towel. This was not a coffee stain from Starbucks coffee nearby. It was a stain resulting from having to pour Ariva's coffee in an IKEA quality cup that even the most adroit person would have spilled because of its unconventionally small size and dysfunctional grip. This is a one-star motel embellished with two-star decor. I do not approve this hotel. Read more

Ariva Beijing is striving to be a Western hotel, and the facilities in the hotel come pretty close. There's a nice pool, a good workout facility and spacious rooms; the mattresses are hard, but that's to be expected in China. Many hotels in Beijing said their rooms would not accommodate that many people, but Ariva was available, so we assumed the room would sleep 4 people. It didn't. When we checked in, the hotel staff treated it as if this was our problem, and we would have to either pay for another room or pay for a cot (which would have cost us almost as much as the room). It took forever to get them to fix this problem, and even then, one of our kids had to sleep on the couch - which didn't fit him. So, beware - if you have more than 2 people, these rooms won't accommodate your party. Then, when we were checking out, we had to wait while the cleaning lady "checked" our room; they then charged us for a drinking glasses. Not a big cost (about 3-4 dollars), but just indicative of the customer service mentality at this hotel. It's not as if we trashed the room - we broke a small glass. Rather than seeing this as a cost of doing business, they saw it as a way to extract money from us. If you're looking for a Western hotel, go elsewhere. Otherwise, expect to be treated poorly. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. They spoke pretty good English and helped us get to the sites we wanted to see. We were extremely disappointed with the internet that was not wireless in the rooms and had a slow and mostly non-existent connection. The heating system in the hotel was not set up correctly and only in the top section of our loft […] apartment. It was extremely hot upstairs and freezing cold downstairs. On the first day of our arrival the hotel staff walked into our room several times while we were trying to sleep from our late arrival. Everything at the hotel was extremely expensive and the pool required you to buy swimming caps in order to swim. I was a little disappointed with the location as most of the main attractions were at least 45 minutes on the subway. This was the nice surprise of the trip. Brand new with a two level loft, an office downstairs and bedroom upstairs, two baths and upstairs/downstairs flat TV's. I enjoyed my recent 1-week stay at Ariva. Although the hotel is a bit far from many Beijing sites, except for the Summer Palace and Beijing University, it was conveniently located near a subway stop, Suzhou Jie on Line 10. (To be fair, I have noticed that the problem of carpet cleanliness is not exclusive to Ariva in China.) I had mixed experiences with the hotel staff. Some were extremely helpful, and the room service staff were great. I had one great experience at the front desk, when the staff helped me find out which terminal my flight was leaving from. Another experience was not so great, however. A young man at the reception desk was very hesitant to help me locate and contact a Post Office for opening hours on a Saturday afternoon. Instead, he told me that I could get the information myself by calling the city's information line, getting a phone number and address for one of the branches, and then call the Post Office myself to see if they were open. After a very long, very circuitous, and very frustrating exchange, he finally helped me to get this information. Read more

Very comfortable 2 weeks stay, The 2-storey layout of the room enabled plenty of space, which was the best thing about the room. Room rate is reasonable. Plenty of complimentary toiletries too. On the 29th and 30th Beijing was a searing 31 degrees celcius, though apparently it was still winter thus the Ariva has no cooling system. Checks with the hotel staff revealed that it was the Beijing government rule that air-conditioning can only be switched on on the 14th of May. To make matters worst, the central heating can't be switched off. There […] was only one window that can be opened about 5 inches. We stayed in the Orchid hotel on the 28th and had individual air-condition for the room and on the 1st we moved to Park Plaza Wangfujing which had aircond too. So I can't understand what the rules of the government Ariva was talking about. Otherwise reception was helpful, but no bell services or any offer to help with the luggages. The spa that offered massage was exceptionally poor in service and unkempt. The rooms were spacious but not good idea for the steep and narrow steps that lead to the loft bedroom, even worse if you have to lug your heavy baggage up. Like the to bathrooms in each room and the writing desk, internet and 2 LCD TVs. With aircond and light luggage, the hotel would be value for money if you intent to visit the Summer Palace and shop at the IT/Electronic malls. Too far from Beijing centre, cab can cost RMB 80 to the city. Read more

I was looking forward to my stay at Ariva Beijing after booking it via Hotels.com, yet what a disappointing experience I had. I booked a room for 2 adults and 2 children, aged 6 and 8 (these are clearly stated on the booking form), and upon check-in, I found out that we were given a room with only 2 single beds. I can't see how the 4 of us can fit in […] these 2 single beds. When asking at the reception, I was told that this is a standard room for 4, and the reception suggested that combining the 2 beds to have 3 of us sleep on it, and the hotel will add an additional single bed at the cost of RMB 200 a day! I couldn't understand why I paid for 4 and only have 2 beds and have to pay extra, and even after paying extra there are still not enough room for the 4 of us. At the end, the hotel agreed to move us to a slightly bigger room, with 2 bigger single beds (which were put together and called a super kingsize bed), and give us a third single bed free of charge. Still, 3 of us have to squeeze into the so called super king size bed, and I wouldn't call this a satisfying hotel experience. The front desk girl told me that same complaint has been received previously. Another thing to mention is the low level of customer service skills at the front desk. The basic check in process took longer than 30 minutes because the lady who was dealing with me consitantly answering phone calls and dealing with other customers before completing my check in. And it seems a standard behaviour at the front desk. When I went back to query about my room, the floor manager was right behind the counter, and gave instructions to the girl, but wouldn't have the courtesy to at least apologize for the poor experience I received. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Read more

The loft apartment rate is cheap given that one is entitled to a 2 storey room complete with 2 toilets and 2 tvs. A study table, entrance toilet and sofa set in the living room complete with a loft bed and attached toilet ensures every business traveler a comfortable night's sleep with the option of entertaining guests in the 1st floor living room.

Liked the style of the room, very nice layout and sophisticated features. Staff were very friendly and swimming pool was good. The location being near to a subway station was very convenient to travel by. The only problem i found was that in the beer garden there was an unpleasant sewage smell. And guess what, is the same pasta that my hubby is having and which they say the ingredient is not enough. Its really shocking. Wonder where they get the ingredient from. Fantastiskt bra rum för barnfamiljer då sviten är i två våningar med två badrum. Fick dock tjata oss till extrasängar trots att vi bokat rum för två vuxna och två barn. Ge er inte, visa bokningsbekräftelsen och vägra betala extraavgifter. I övrigt, toppenhotell med kul pool och bra läge nära superbekväm tunnelbana (dock många stationer till city).
