"Better then it looks."
Profile picture is outdated. This is a great place if you want cheap and conveinent. It's not a 5 star, but much nicer then the ratings, updated bathrooms, comfy pillows, large flat screen TV, wifi, fridge, in room coffee...everything the big chains offer. Well worth the stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Was clean and close to where we were goingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The positives: price, location, clean refrigerator & microwave and comfortable bed, It is downtown; and an easy walk to all kinds of great stuff in York. The negatives: room was very dated, mostly clean, the TV was old enough that it didn't have a hdmi jack (we weren't there to watch a movie so this was OK for us), the hair dryer had it's casing ripped […] off exposing the wiring & didn't work which is probably good since it's right next to the sink and finally I would not go shoeless in this room. If you are looking for a decent affordable mostly clean room and you don't care if it has been updated recently then this might be your place. It worked well for us. "Good place to lay your head after a fun-filled day"
Two couples booked our rooms here based on it's close location to the Pennsylvania Cigarbox Guitar Festival and the Yorkfest arts festival . After reading other reviews we weren't sure what we would be getting so were pleased to find the rooms clean and comfortable. While much of downtown York looks like it has seen better days, we were thrilled to […] discover this "cheap" hotel was within walking distance of an Irish pub, wonderful bistro, and a tap house! All three venues had delicious food and live music on Saturday night. This meant very little time had to be spent in our rooms. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. "Not as expected, price was great.."
To begin with, the hotel room itself was good. It was clean and the hotel staff did their best to accomodate. Hotels.com mileage calculations must be only if you can fly!!! We went to this hotel because of a trip to Hersheypark. According to the mileage calculations given by Hotels.com, it was 23 miles from the park, I estimated 25 minutes...I did not […] do my own calculation, turned out to be 35 or so miles and 45 minutes away...after a long day at the park, that is a long time...we stayed there because the hotel was cheap$$$. MAKE SURE TO CALCULATE DISTANCE PRIOR TO BOOKING. The hotel, let's say that outside of the room, there is nothing to see. We stayed in room 120, right next to the elevator, you can hear the "transmission" changing gears all night throught the wall. we stayed over on trash night, Sunday into Monday. The rolling trash bin was pushed into the middle of the parking lot the night before and at 5am, the trash men come and pick it up, lots of noise. There were families living there, not really a big deal but, the youngest child was running around in his/her diaper outside..not pleasant and in the morning I had a lovely cigarette butt on my windshield along with a whole lot of ashes.... continental breakfast was fair, as expected...Should have spent the extra 10 bucks or so to be closer to Hershey... "I would stay again"
The hotel was great - staff very accommodating. It was not in a great neighborhood but worked for our purposes. Very affordable. We stayed in York on a recent trip to Hershey. The only problem was that Hotels.com listed the hotel as 21 miles from city center. I don't know where city center in Hershey is, but this was misleading and we ended up in almost […] a 40 mile one way trip to and from hotel. Very inconvenient. But the hotel itself was fantastic. our stay was good, room was clean, it was quiet, staff was accomindating, check-in and out was hassle free. I wouldn't stay more than 2 days only because it seemed like some shady actives was happening in some of the rooms, if you know what I mean. Other than that I would not have mind staying longer.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Convenient to locations of interest. Great ratesGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel looked similar to the Ghetto scene in Training Day. We reserved a smoking room, and then were told we were being given a non-smoking room. The room reeked of smoke, there were cigarette burns everywhere, the back of one chair had been repeatedly slashed by a knife and there was something white and suspicious looking on it. Yuck. Next time, […] I will do a little more research before selecting a hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Old, beat up hotel on outside. Room furnishings were OK, but dated. Big problem was I booked a non smoking room, which was confirmed by the staff. But the room was like sleeping in an ash tray. This was one of the closest places for me to stay to attend the Hearshy Fall Car Show that had a reasonable rate. "Not a good idea!"
When I checked this out on hotels.com, it looked very nice and close to everything that was needed. I didn't expect to arrive to a Rodeway Hotel which is jammed in between other buildings, parking spaces that just barely fit your vehicle with no room to get out of it if you have it parked, and lucky to find a spot when you return late. This hotel is […] also located in a very rough area of the city but did have a couple of nice outdoor cafes close by. It is also not located in an area where I felt safe during the day and especially at night. Our first night there, next door they were have caged fighting, so that should give you some indication of the neighborhood. But then again, you only get what you pay for. What have been ok for one night but we had booked 8 nights!! Stupid of us! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Only a go if on a tight budget"
08/07/14 Bart v Zwolle, The Netherlands
I stayed here for a few nights due to some unforseen circumstances. I actually didn't have a budget so I had to go for the cheapest hotel around, which was the Rodeway Inn. Let me start with some positives. It is cheap and the room I stayed in was actually quite nice. I always had a good nights rest and I felt pretty good when I was in the room. Then the downsides. You get what you pay for in terms of service and location. I read a few reviews saying the location is shady. Well, it really is. The parking lot is a breeding ground for who knows what and the activities of some of the guests is questionnable as well. Then again, when I was in the room I felt safe and I didn't notice any of the outside activities. So, just don't look out of the window. ;) Then there's the service. The people behind the desk do not look professional at all and one of the has a bad knowledge of the English language. I am no native speaker as well and had difficulties understanding him. Maybe it is because I'm not from around but I'm pretty sure other non-native speakers would have problems with that as well. Another problem was unnecessary charging of my CC. I paid with a prepaid creditcard and during our stay I suddenly received an email saying that my reservation had changed; instead of leaving sunday I would now leave friday. This changed the cost of my reservation and this was now $140, which was charged on my CC (on top of the other costs we already had paid). So this was charged about a week ago or so and it is still pending on my creditcard. Which is a problem because it's prepaid. We complained at the desk and they made it sound like it was just a minor mistake, like forgetting to give us new towels or whatever. I am actually pretty annoyed by this. They say they cancelled it and I believe them, but I am afraid I have to wait a few more days until the transaction is not pending anymore. All in all I'd recommend this hotel only if you're on a really tight budget. If you're not, spend a little more and find a decent hotel around; there seem to be plenty.

It seems that after having had a fire over a year ago the whole place has been remodeled and refurbished. It is not an elegant hotel, but the rooms are clean, well maintained and the king size bed was very comfortable. The temperature outside was hot, fortunately the in room air conditioned cooled the room very quickly. All rooms are now non-smoking and this policy is being enforced. The people working the front desk were friendly and courteous. I was fortunate to have a room on the first floor, but for those on the 2nd and 3rd floors, there is a working elevator. The continental breakfast was simple but tasty. The price was right, it was convenient, the rooms are well-maintained - I would consider staying here again.

Stayed one night to attend an activity in York, PA. It was comfortable, quiet, clean, spacious, and well managed. A very fair price. I needed to check out one hour past the normal 11 am check out time, and my request was granted. I'd stay there again.
"Didn't expect much. Got less."

This is my third stay, so my expectations were low. I stay here for location: it is quite close to a restaurant I like and just a bit over a mile from the York Fairgrounds. Since I booked the room through Expedia didn't reward points for the stay. My own fault. Won't do that again. Usually stay on the first floor and the rooms are OK, not nice, but OK for the price I had been paying. This time I was on the third floor (no elevator) and at my room wasn't nice. When entering the room the light switch didn't turn on the light. The front desk clerk fixed it quick enough but the cleaning staff should have noticed. The lamp between the beds wasn't clean. It had brown drops of something on the lamp shade and the pedestal. I've posted the photos. The quilt on the bed had a cigarette burn in it. I was a no smoking room but the quilt had a few years on it so the burn is not likely to be recent. The air vent in the bathroom was hanging down from the ceiling. I've posted a photo. The bathroom was clean enough. I'm not picky or I wouldn't have come back. Cheap and clean is generally good enough for me. However, the room was in such disrepair, and especially the brown drops on the lamp shade and its stand is over the top. Guess I was lucky the first two visits. Not likely to make a fourth.

The rooms were ok but needed some cleaning!!! Cobwebs in the corners, layers of dust on the lamp shade's, stained bed linen, mold in the shower and the shower head from hell. I guess you get what you pay for!
"Woke up to a dozen roaches!"
07/19/12 Fishtheniagara Niagara Falls, New York
I should have read the reviews before booking the room. Upon entering the room at first glance it appeared clean and smelled okay. My wife and I were in town to visit the Harley manufacturing plant. we unloaded the bike and settled in. when we pulled back the comforter it was stained and had cigarette burns. figuring we would just pull the comforter off and sleep on the sheets we thought we would be okay. we took a brief nap and went to the White Rose restaurant, which by the way is highly recommended! when we returned people were loitering in the parking lot and on the railings upstairs. They appeared to be permanent residence. Hearing for the safety of the motorcycle we kept the curtain slightly ajar. We didn't get much sleep as there was much commotion all night. My wife woke up at approximately 4 AM to use the bathroom. When she turned the light on roaches scattered. She woke me and wanted to leave. I convinced her to endure and wait until morning as we had no other options. when we awoke again at 6 AM there were roaches on the refrigerator in the bathroom and on the microwave. Since we had only been eating in restaurants for our trip we had no food with us. I went to the office to explain to the front desk what the problem was he seemed very unconcerned and almost accused me of lying. I explained to him he could find dead roaches that I had killed in the bathroom in front of the fridge on the seal of the fridge and on the microwave. After check out we went to the nearest laundry mat and washed everything we owned for fear of bringing their little friends home with us. So if you don't mind roaches, drug dealers, prostitutes, permanent residents with grills on the deck, rude staff and a noisy atmosphere this might just be the place for you.
"Even the bed bugs won't stay here!"

The whole hotel smells like an airplane bathroom. There were several amoeba shaped brown stains on my mattress and curly hairs in the sink...do you need me to go on? I guess for $50 a night it should be no surprise.
"Not much $ for not much"

Let me begin by saying the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. That being said, the coffee maker leaked from the bottom (water had no chance to become coffee), there was no hot water (yes, I did call and was told to let it run at least 5 minutes; I gave up for both myself and the environment after 10-15), the TV buzzed, the sink faucet leaked, and I had to leave before breakfast which, the way this visit was going, might have been a good thing. The employees were nice and as helpful/empathetic (since they had no power to actually fix any of these problems over a weekend) as they could be and the bed was comfortable and the room was clean.

There is nothing even remotely redeemable about this horrible hotel in the heart of downtown York, PA. That the Choice Hotels group has done nothing to compel upgrade or remove its flag is shocking. Rooms are filthy, bedding soiled and torn. Refrigerators are caked with old food, and there is a smell in the rooms of must and mold. Door locks are broken, perhaps by design. I have stayed here three times by necessity and each time was worse. Bags are riffled and belonging missing. The management and staff are cold and rude and appear to be amused by complaint. Be careful with your credit card as I have had odd charges that were removed after argument and threat of police involvement. This old, run down relic of a hotel truly needs a bull dozer rather then makeover. Worst hotel experience ever, anywhere. TO BE AVOIDED!

At a little more than $40 a night for a king bed, in the downtown area of York, I didn't expect much. But we were very pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, nicely furnished, and functional and the price just couldn't be beat. Anxious to return so that we can experience some more of the neighborhood's restaurants and culture.
