Convenient to locations of interest. Great ratesGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel looked similar to the Ghetto scene in Training Day. We reserved a smoking room, and then were told we were being given a non-smoking room. The room reeked of smoke, there were cigarette burns everywhere, the back of one chair had been repeatedly slashed by a knife and there was something white and suspicious looking on it. Yuck. Next time, […] I will do a little more research before selecting a hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"smoke smell rooms"
Old, beat up hotel on outside. Room furnishings were OK, but dated. Big problem was I booked a non smoking room, which was confirmed by the staff. But the room was like sleeping in an ash tray. Nicotine burned my nasal passages all night, could not sleep. Staff was not concerned in the morning, said "yea, we have a hard tiem keeoing people from smoking […] in the rooms.. Other lower cost hotels does not seem to have this problem.. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

This was one of the closest places for me to stay to attend the Hearshy Fall Car Show that had a reasonable rate. It is in downtown York not a bad city that looks like it is going through a resto project.Outside hotel noise is loud, room could need a little more attention to details, slight mold around bath tub and sloppy painters. I guess I am spoiled, […] I like things nice and spotless. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Rodeway Inn - uptown York,PA"
We felt that the 3 1/2 star rating was a little high. The pictures we viewed prior to booking were misleading. We also booked this believing the mileage listed to Hershey. We were a little surprised by the appearance of the hotel - a little seedy. We were greeted by an unshaven, dirty t-shirted (paint stained) clerk. We checked into our room and were […] somewhat surprised by the clean, fresh room. It had obviously been re-done recently and was welcoming. Although we did not like the outside of the motel, the room was good. The clerk that checked us in was not seen again. Perhaps he was just filling in for the regular clerk at that time. All other contacts to the front desk were received by an appropriated dressed and clean gentleman. The distance to Hershey was listed on line at considerably less miles. We drove back and forth each day but were not happy that it was so much farther than listed in ad. Continental breakfast was adequate. Not up to par with other hotels but there was cereal and sweet rolls offered as well as coffee and juice. However not much seating space provided. The price was great and we were satisfied but there could be some improvements in the internet listing that would make a more accurate discription,. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not very quiet"
This hotel is in the middle of town. At 11 P.M. my smoke alarm sounded for no reason. People kept pulling into the small parking lot blowing their horn to pick up a friend. Someone kept coming into the parking lot with their music blaring all night long. At 3 A.M. there was loud talking in the parking lot. If you need a good night's sleep this is not […] the place. This hotel was dirty and loud. Parking was horrendous! Shower and bathroom was very gross. Did not sleep under the blankets. Air conditioner had two temps, high and off. Needless to say we awoke with headaches and stuffy noses! Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not a good idea!"
When I checked this out on hotels.com, it looked very nice and close to everything that was needed. I didn't expect to arrive to a Rodeway Hotel which is jammed in between other buildings, parking spaces that just barely fit your vehicle with no room to get out of it if you have it parked, and lucky to find a spot when you return late. This hotel is […] also located in a very rough area of the city but did have a couple of nice outdoor cafes close by. It is also not located in an area where I felt safe during the day and especially at night. Our first night there, next door they were have caged fighting, so that should give you some indication of the neighborhood. But then again, you only get what you pay for. What have been ok for one night but we had booked 8 nights!! Stupid of us! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Stayed one night to attend an activity in York, PA. It was comfortable, quiet, clean, spacious, and well managed. A very fair price. I needed to check out one hour past the normal 11 am check out time, and my request was granted. I'd stay there again.

This is my third stay, so my expectations were low. I stay here for location: it is quite close to a restaurant I like and just a bit over a mile from the York Fairgrounds. Since I booked the room through Expedia didn't reward points for the stay. My own fault. Won't do that again. Usually stay on the first floor and the rooms are OK, not nice, but OK for the price I had been paying. This time I was on the third floor (no elevator) and at my room wasn't nice. When entering the room the light switch didn't turn on the light. The front desk clerk fixed it quick enough but the cleaning staff should have noticed. The lamp between the beds wasn't clean. It had brown drops of something on the lamp shade and the pedestal. I've posted the photos. The quilt on the bed had a cigarette burn in it. I was a no smoking room but the quilt had a few years on it so the burn is not likely to be recent. The air vent in the bathroom was hanging down from the ceiling. I've posted a photo. The bathroom was clean enough. I'm not picky or I wouldn't have come back. Cheap and clean is generally good enough for me. However, the room was in such disrepair, and especially the brown drops on the lamp shade and its stand is over the top. Guess I was lucky the first two visits. Not likely to make a fourth.

The rooms were ok but needed some cleaning!!! Cobwebs in the corners, layers of dust on the lamp shade's, stained bed linen, mold in the shower and the shower head from hell. I guess you get what you pay for!
"Woke up to a dozen roaches!"
07/19/12 Fishtheniagara Niagara Falls, New York
I should have read the reviews before booking the room. Upon entering the room at first glance it appeared clean and smelled okay. My wife and I were in town to visit the Harley manufacturing plant. we unloaded the bike and settled in. when we pulled back the comforter it was stained and had cigarette burns. figuring we would just pull the comforter off and sleep on the sheets we thought we would be okay. we took a brief nap and went to the White Rose restaurant, which by the way is highly recommended! when we returned people were loitering in the parking lot and on the railings upstairs. They appeared to be permanent residence. Hearing for the safety of the motorcycle we kept the curtain slightly ajar. We didn't get much sleep as there was much commotion all night. My wife woke up at approximately 4 AM to use the bathroom. When she turned the light on roaches scattered. She woke me and wanted to leave. I convinced her to endure and wait until morning as we had no other options. when we awoke again at 6 AM there were roaches on the refrigerator in the bathroom and on the microwave. Since we had only been eating in restaurants for our trip we had no food with us. I went to the office to explain to the front desk what the problem was he seemed very unconcerned and almost accused me of lying. I explained to him he could find dead roaches that I had killed in the bathroom in front of the fridge on the seal of the fridge and on the microwave. After check out we went to the nearest laundry mat and washed everything we owned for fear of bringing their little friends home with us. So if you don't mind roaches, drug dealers, prostitutes, permanent residents with grills on the deck, rude staff and a noisy atmosphere this might just be the place for you.
"Even the bed bugs won't stay here!"

The whole hotel smells like an airplane bathroom. There were several amoeba shaped brown stains on my mattress and curly hairs in the sink...do you need me to go on? I guess for $50 a night it should be no surprise.
"Not much $ for not much"

Let me begin by saying the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. That being said, the coffee maker leaked from the bottom (water had no chance to become coffee), there was no hot water (yes, I did call and was told to let it run at least 5 minutes; I gave up for both myself and the environment after 10-15), the TV buzzed, the sink faucet leaked, and I had to leave before breakfast which, the way this visit was going, might have been a good thing. The employees were nice and as helpful/empathetic (since they had no power to actually fix any of these problems over a weekend) as they could be and the bed was comfortable and the room was clean.

There is nothing even remotely redeemable about this horrible hotel in the heart of downtown York, PA. That the Choice Hotels group has done nothing to compel upgrade or remove its flag is shocking. Rooms are filthy, bedding soiled and torn. Refrigerators are caked with old food, and there is a smell in the rooms of must and mold. Door locks are broken, perhaps by design. I have stayed here three times by necessity and each time was worse. Bags are riffled and belonging missing. The management and staff are cold and rude and appear to be amused by complaint. Be careful with your credit card as I have had odd charges that were removed after argument and threat of police involvement. This old, run down relic of a hotel truly needs a bull dozer rather then makeover. Worst hotel experience ever, anywhere. TO BE AVOIDED!

At a little more than $40 a night for a king bed, in the downtown area of York, I didn't expect much. But we were very pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, nicely furnished, and functional and the price just couldn't be beat. Anxious to return so that we can experience some more of the neighborhood's restaurants and culture.
"Cheap is what you get"

I have stayed at this motel on several occassions while visiting family. Luckily, I basically only sleep here, so the price is OK for that. It is clean, but looks dumpy. The walls are thin, so if Chico and Juanita are getting into it, you'll hear every word. I always ask for non-smoking; this time I got put into a room that obviously had a smoker in it, they tried to cover it up with some stuff that smells like the stuff they used when we were in elementary school to cover up barf smell. It is close to the fashionable area of town (if there is such a thing in York), and only a couple of blocks from the bike trail (13 miles to the Howard tunnel and back). The Central Market is just down the street, which is helpful if you want anything for breakfast other than coffee and raisin bran. My wife will NOT stay here, so I only stay here solo when I visit my Mom in the nursing home or hospital. Bottom line...luxury...nada! Cheap place to flop if you leave the TV on all night to drown out the noise.
"avoid at all cost"

The lobby (and room) smelled like an antiseptic urinal cake. The stairs up to the 2nd floor room were covered in layers of crusted brown filth. The room had two beds covered with bedspreads so filthy they could not have been laundered since their purchase sometime in the 1960s. The mattress and boxsprings of both beds had black stains extending the entire length of both lumpy sagging sections. The pillows were almost non-existent, and also covered in unknown stains. Our feet stuck to the tile in the bathroom. There was a rodent hole chewed in the corner of the baseboard next to the bathroom door. I could barely breathe, the odor was so bad. I started coughing and gagging and had to leave. The manager, who was outside smoking a cigarette, only shrugged his shoulders when we told him the room was not acceptable, and he offered no alternatives. We handed him our room keys, and left. We are now in the process of trying to get our money back, but it doesn't look good. Do not stay here. AARP should be ashamed of offering such a horrid hotel on their web site. This hotel was the most filthy, awful smelling place I have ever experienced in my entire life.
