Sokha Beach Resort - Sihanoukville

Sokha was great in so many ways: the private beach is super close and convenient, both pools are awesome, and our room was fantastic. We got a deluxe ocean view room on the third floor and it definitely lived up to expectations. The service was all around exceptional. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet too. My only two knocks on it are: it's a resort […] so if you eat and drink there it can get expensive as compared to going to dinner outside the resort. Also, you need to take a tuk tuk to get to everything else - nothing is within walking distance - although you can get a $2-3 tuk tuk just about anywhere. Disappointing overall. For the money you pay, you would expect quality throughout the experience, however this was not the case. Having lived and traveled in SE Asia for the last 10 years, we are accustomed to different standards. We specifically booked at this hotel thinking that for the price you would get a certain standard. The rooms are a bit […] dated and the layout makes it very noisy. We were on the first floor and got all the upstairs noise, as well as people walking by. The beds were also quite hard and uncomfortable. Most dissapointing was the food quality at breakfast and dinner buffet. We arrived late after a prolonged bus trip and settled for the dinner buffet which was $25! One would expect quality and fresh tasting food, but this was not the case. When we asked if there were other options, we were told that their other restaurants were not walking distance. The next morning we discovered that indeed they were just a short walk away. Also, by 9am there were no seats available at the beach. Large parties come by and leave towels at the lounge chairs and all three days we were there we did not have access to a beach chair. If you want quality and relaxation, give this place a miss. Positives: After a 3-week cycling trip, this was a nice, clean, relaxing finish. I'd call it 4-star rather than 5-star. Nice, clean, quiet, big breakfast buffet, the beach was nice. You can walk or ride a bike to town. The other beach areas are more fun, but it's nice to retreat to a quiet, safe hotel after a party night out. This was the only place I saw in Cambodia where the staff weren't readily smiling or friendly. I don't think it's a reflection of the Cambodians but rather a reflection of the guests who seem to think being rude and unfriendly is the norm. Had I known there was a casino on site, I wouldn't have stayed here. It brings a different clientele which contributed to the problem. However, whenever I'd speak a few words of Khmer, the staff would immediately smile, teach me new words, and remember me when I came through the lobby. Please don't be rude to the staff. Cambodia's one of the friendliest countries I've ever visited and I'd hate them to get the impression that all foreigners are rude, demanding, unsmiling, and Speedo-clad. Read more

We booked the Sokha Beach Hotel to relax for a couple of days after 2 weeks of traveling around Cambodia. We were lucky to get an upgrade and enjoyed our beach view. The hotel is very well maintained and the 2 restaurants serve very nice food (at resort prices). The breakfast is great too! We had an interesting stay that started off poorly but did improve. The hotel looks nice and is well spaced out. My wife, daughter and I were initially placed in the second block which is quite deserted, the restaurant closed and we had to dial reception to be picked up and look for a staff member to take us back or walk 7 to 8 minutes. Our room was […] 3 beds, the doubles more like singles and my wife and I could not sleep together amongst other annoyances.This made the stay annoying and I became tired or looking for staff for help rather then them looking to help us. To there credit when I asked to see the manager to complain he took my complaint seriously and found a room for us in the main block, this made the stay far more convenient and enjoyable as everything for our daughter was near the main block. A few other things, baby sitting was advertised but not available and it took 3 visits to reception with each time telling me they would get back to me but didnt, so I didnt find out for sure we couldnt go out until 1 hour before I planned to go out. Location only 5 minutes to other restaurants by tuk tuk and $3 which is ok. Food was very good at all restaurants, though pool bar food very limited. An ok hotel that will hopefully get better, just be aware of being placed in the second block if you have kids or dont like waiting and walking between blocks to have bf, transport etc. Read more

The spa was very relaxed, pleasant and the treatments are the best in town, but probably not so much better that they are worth about triple the price in town. This hotel is great if you want to get away from it all and want to lay on the beach reading a book, have a message and a sauna or just relax by the pool. The beach if gorgeous and the staff bring drinks and food to your lounger which is a nice touch. The total lack of hecklers on the beach is great. Expect to pay 5-10 times more for food and drink than you would on the tourist beaches. If you do want a bit of atmosphere they run a free shuttle to serendipity beach and tuk tuk back is very reasonable. Wir haben in dem angeblichen Luxusresort eine Suite gebucht. Das war ein riesen Fehler. Türen sind nicht gegen Schall isoliert. Wurden schon um 06.00h von schreienden Kindern und lautem Dienstpersonal geweckt. Der Wasserdruck in der Dousche ist sehr spärlich und reicht nicht zum Haare waschen. Am Samstagabend haben wir uns zum spezial Seafooddiner angemeldet.Kostet […] auch eine Kleinigkeit. Alle haben sich, wie es sich gehört in so einem Luxusresort, in Abendrobe gekleidet. Kaldt vann i bassenget, derfor ble ikke poolbar brukt. Veldig dyrt å bo og spise her, men 5 min med tuk-tuk til nærmeste restaurantgate med god og rimelig mat.
