The Henderson Castle Inn and B&B - Kalamazoo

The location and site are great, the castle decor is entertaining and the staff were helpful. The chef was very gracious and accommodating. My only suggestion is that he rethink his breakfast menu and have a simple alternative for those of us who cannot eat high cholesterol, high sugar diets. I'll go back and check!

Breakfast was a great treat! Roof top hot tub had a wonderful night view of downtown, but unfortunately, the 4 couples jammed into the hot tub made the experience less enjoyable. (Hot tub had been closed until late, due to a couple's massage booked in the room leading to the roof.) Very easy drive to downtown business area!

Firstly, the costs of hotels in Kalamazoo are over priced for what you get in my opinion. The Henderson castle is a great value at a comparable price and I would say without question this is the best hidden gem to rest your head when traveling to Kalamazoo. Gorgeous building....We enjoyed stay but it wasnt as "cozy" as I expected.For example, no tv remote,limited towels and blankets. I realize its old in character but cold've been a bit more clean and "warm". Almost felt like they were operating at a bare minimum. We absolutly loved the castle!!!!! Each room has its own ambiance and the special attention to detail is amazing. We got to tour some of the other bedrooms and it was truly like stepping into that era and culture. I can't decide from three rooms which is my favorite. We were not met at the door upon entry, […] we only found out where the hot tub was because we asked and we stumbled across sauna room while heading to hot tub. We got home and saw on website they actually had a fitness room which we never saw nor were we told about it. While we were eating breakfast a service door was opened and after the people were done with it they left it open in below freezing weather. We were freezing so I got up and shut it cuz no one else did. There are many other things going on there than just B&B so be prepared for some extra traffic and service interruptions. The staff is attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. The rooftub hot ub is a big plus with an adjoinimng spa area with sauna and steam rooms. The massage therapist was fantastic. The hotel dinner was very satisfying. Our room was very clean and in order.

Beautiful old building which needs more updating. Our room lacked comfortable chairs and lighting for reading. Gracious young server at breakfast but receptionist upon arrival was very abrupt and unfriendly. We do not plan to return.

The Henderson Castle is an exquisite bed and breakfast. Francois, the owner and chef, and all of the staff are outstanding. The food, made with fresh produce from the garden, is some of the best French cuisine I've ever tasted. Our room way magical. Can't recommend this place enough!

As a REALTOR I love big old houses with lots of craftsmanship, lots of carved moldings and tile. When I got there a cheerful young woman checked me in and carried my bag to my room. I was tired from a 3 hour drive and would have loved something to eat and a glass of wine, but that was not possible. So I had to get back in the car to find something to […] eat. Not knowing the area I ended up in an Appleby's. When I returned I kicked back, took a shower. The shower had a very slow drain and I was standing mid calf in water. After my shower I noticed how dirty my hardwood floors were, like they had not been mopped at all. I had to put a towel on the floor to wipe my feet off so I wouldn't get sand and dirt in my bed. The bedding looked old and tired, pretty new blankets and duvet would have gone along way to making me feel more comfortable. People talking in the hallways late in the evening was disturbing. The best part of my stay was a complimentary breakfast served by the owner. Read more

We were not the normal type of guests for this place - three dudes stopping for a night on the way to a bachelor party. That said, our experience was very impressive. The Inn is a converted old mansion on the top of a hill, and looks just like Fred, Shaggy, and all might stop in later and solve a mystery. The room was clean. No one was there to check me in but the key was on the desk. So, I helped myself. I left before breakfast. The common rooms are more furnished than they used to be , but it still seems half vacant and with the lights out at night on the first floor, arrivval is a bit odd.

Pretty awesome hotel. Only a handful of rooms and it was dead when I was there. First thing after getting shown to my room I had to walk around the hotel taking pictures and video. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay in the hotel. The only problem I had was that I was unable to access the internet from my room as described. The room was far too warm and I couldn't adjust the thermostat. Also, for two people the bed was a bit too small. However, I would stay there again if the right accommodations could be made.

There are no TVs or Phones, it is a small old castle after all. But it's suppossed to be a respite from the outside world. And it definitely makes all of your senses smile. A top place to reccomend. We stayed in the Dutch room, with its antique furniture and Dutch tile bathroom. The parquet floor is bordered with subtle lights that you can dim or turn brighter. The Tibetan Room was exactly as pictured, but I would add a few things for the comfort of guests: adequate lighting on the stairs, a waste basket, a tsmall table between the two ornately carved chairs (and maybe cushions on those chairs), and shades to pull down behind the sheer bathroom curtains.
