"we had a great vacation"
Ocean is warm with sandy beach. Weather is sunny with tiny rains at night - just perfect. Everything is on the level. I would add hose to beach volleyball court - sand gets very hot. Also tiny water slide for kids would be nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our stay was not pleasant. We were not informed until later that you can not dine in the specialty restaurants unless you reserve them when we tried to reserve, out of the 5 nights of stay, we could only get one night of reservation. The good was not great either. The room smelled bad as well! Special mention a girl named CECILIA in customer service. […] She did not care at all about problems of the guests and has a very unfriendly attitude. Did not offer any solutions to problems and instead argued carelessly with guests. "Fun place worth the buck."
Very worth the deal. 3rd all inclusive RIU property I've stayed at and good experiences every time. Definitely worth the value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't go there hungry!!"
The hotel property was excellent, the service second to none, the room was spacious and well appointed but the food was horrible. They certainly tried and perhaps with a chef that new how to cook it would be 5 diamond. Fruit was very fresh, the salads were fresh but a weird assortment, beef was always like eating leather, shrimp had a mushy consistency […] and the desserts were like eating bland baby food. Taco's were very good as was the salmon and chicken skewers. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great all-inclusive hotel"
This was the first time we tried an all-inclusive and we were definitely impressed. There were 7 people in our party and no one had to pull out a wallet (except to tip if you want). The rooms were large, cool, and immaculate. The pool was the most fun-especially for our 30-something children since the bar was conveniently located in it! The beach was […] beautiful, clean, and had all the necessary amenities (beach chairs, water activities, shade, and shopping). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"On the beach of Nuevo Vallarta"
Our third stay at the Riu Palace( Playa del Carmen, Punta Cana) and it's always been a great experience. The Buffet has a wide variety of American, European and Mexican foods. Krystal fusion restaurant offers a small but selective menu. We enjoyed yoga, water aerobic, Zumba classes during the day thanks to the animation team. "Fantastic location! Absolutely spotless!!!"
Fantastic staff! So polite and attentive. Really made us feel at home. Beautiful location on the beach. Amazing sunsets every night. Food was out of this world. Truly a 5 star experience. Nothing could have been better. Could not recommend more!!Genuine Expedia guest review
We had a great time, grounds were great, food was great, 4 restaurants were a great add on. We really enjoyed the steak place the best, but after talking to a lot of guests they had their favorites and thought the steak place was the worst. They all are very good. You just need to book them once you get at the resort. Rooms were great with a stocked […] mini bar and bottles of tequila, rum, brandy and vodka. That was awesome. The bed was great the pillow was a little hard. Pool and pool bar was spectacular. The evening shows were not that good but the Michael Jackson show don't miss it. Really the only thing that we considered bad was that the bathroom location to the pool wasn't all that close. This hotel only has two main bathrooms. Maid service was great and the pool staff and waitresses were great. Everyone was very friendly. Just tip these people and they will make your experience a lot better and I think that goes with all the resorts. The lobby kind of reminded us of a Vegas hotel. All in all a great hotel that I would definitely go back again. The pool entertainment isn't the best. They do have Dos Equis amber and lager on draught and have tecate in cans and tecate light in bottles. They serve you bottled beer at lunch and dinner which was right up my alley. Drinks are very good and NOT watered down like I saw a few write before I went. They had enough choices on the buffet line that I didn't really get sick of the buffet food. "So so swimming pool"
Nice beach , don't expect Cancun colors of the ocean. Swimming pool way to small for the size of the hotel, dirty water. Great quality buffet. French and Japanese restaurants ok, Stakehouse and Mexican so so at best. Overall rating 4.0 at bestGenuine Expedia guest review
Enjoyed the stay at the Riu very nice staff and friendly , food was very good everyone can find something to eat! I would recommend to stay and would go backGenuine Expedia guest review

"Wonderful resort steps from the beach"
My overall experience was great! The resort is beautiful. Plenty to do during the day including large pool with swim up bar, table tennis, volleyball, soccer, water sports, workout facility, and spa. The Riu has entertainment each night at 10 PM. Reminded me of the entertainment you would see on a cruise. Some great, some so-so. Other than their nightly […] show, no other night life so to speak. The staff is wonderful. They are friendly & accommodating. They are constantly cleaning to keep the resort looking beautiful. I stayed in a Jr Suite with ocean view. The room was nice & clean. Big bathroom with 2 sinks & combination shower with jacuzzi tub. The room also has a sitting area with sofa, 2 chairs, and 2 different tables. The balcony also has 2 plastic reclining chairs & a plastic table. The room also features a bar-like area containing 4 bottles of liquor in a cabinet upside down to provide you with the perfect shot along with a refrigerator filled with bottled water & soda. Wish it would have had juice in there, too. My only real complaint about the room is the bed, which is not very comfortable. Other than that, I would definitely return to this resort! "Great hotel and friendly staff"
Only two complaints about our experience at the resort, people reserve their chairs way in advance around the pool areas, and you don't see them all day. Also they do not enforce the policy of no flotation devices in the serenity pool. Should be for adults only.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great week with the Family"
Hotel check in and out was a breeze. Staff was helpful and wifi actually worked well. This hotel is clean and super kid friendly. The pool can get crowded but their are always plenty of chairs at the beach. I would definitely stay here again. It was not the best place I've ever stayed but when you factor in price it's a home run. The buffet gets a bit […] boring but their is always something to eat that is decent especially for an all inclusive resort. The only down side is don't bother with the 4 specialty restaurants. You have to make reservations and then you will be super disappointed. The Japanese restaurant was just OK but the steak house was over cooked steak, over cooked lobster and some of the saddest vegetables I've ever seen. The Mexican restaurant was absolutely horrible and this was agreed to by everyone we talked to. It should really be closed down it was so bad. Rooms are clean, the bartenders are great and I never had to wait more then a minute for a drink over 6 days. Don't forget your 50 sunscreen. I started with 30 and got burned bad. Very nice hotel, very clean, but to far from town. No shuttle available and cab cost to go to town 240 Pesos each way. Excellent service, people very friendly, always ready to help. "Better Kind of RIU"
I 've been in this Hotel 10 times already. This time, I was there April 8-14. This was the first time I notice the water at ocean is cold in month of April. Although they have friendly staff, but the rating for their food has gone done since few years ago. They don't have high end drinks but it is ok. The good thing about this Hotel is that you visit […] the other RIUs hotel for drinks and breakfast and lunch as if you have gone to three hotels. If you planning to go to downtown few times during your visit perhaps it is best to rent the car. Taxi would take you there $20-$23 one-way so it is $40 just for transportation. of course, there are buses too for $1-$2 but it takes you 45 minutes to get there. Overall, I still would go back. "Loved this place"
Excellent service. Everyone was friendly and hard working. (Juan, you're the greatest!). Food was good. Beach was great. Sad to leave.Genuine Expedia guest review
The Riu Palace Pacifico was a very nice hotel. The pool/beach staff were very friendly and attentive. I will say that when we registered I was disappointed in the staff in handling our request. My husband is disabled and the flight over was very hard on him. We arrived at the hotel around 12:45 and was told that check-in was not until 3. I explained […] that my husband was disabled and needed to take his medicine and if possible could we check-in earlier. The receptionist said that he would try to take care of this and so we went to have lunch. When we came back the receptionist looked at us as if he had never seen us. He acted like he had not told us that he would see about getting a room for us. He told us check-in was at 3. We were not allowed to check-in until 3 and even that seemed to be an issue. The problem I had was this hotel was in no way filled and we could have very well have been give a room a little earlier. As it turns out my husband was ill for several days. I feel the welcoming staff had a lot to be desired. They clearly said things but didn't produce. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Better than average All inclusive resort"
I have stayed at this resort twice now and think that it rates better than some of the other similar priced all inclusive resorts. The food for most part is good, some of the buffet food is not as hot as it should be. The service is good, waiters and bartenders are all very friendly and seem to like their jobs. I wish they would of had a few more nightlife […] activities. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Impressive hotel except for the buffet!"
This hotel is palatial, it is so well done down to the smallest details, its very impressive. I never saw a speck of dirt anywhere. The staff, ALL the staff was friendly helpful. The service on the beach was most impressive, the waiters were on top of getting you drinks and its not a short walk from the beach back up to the bar.The biggest fail for […] me was the food and not the restaurant food, if you can get into a restaurant for dinner do it, that food was not great but it was way better than the buffet. "Great food, lovely hotel, excellent weather...but"
I ate too much, drank too much and slept too little. That being said, there were things I found disagreeable. Our room was a junior suite on floor 1...room 1031 to be exact. We were right next to the "maid's room" where they park their carts. VERY NOISY. We could hear them early in the morning starting about 6:30 a.m. It sounded as though they were […] loading or unloading washers and dryers. And, late at night they pushed their carts up and down the hallway as late as midnight. All flooring in the hotel rooms, halls, lobby and dining rooms are tile. They are beautiful. But, any talking, walking, laughing, etc. echoes thru the halls making sleep difficult if you turn in earlier before 11:00 p.m. Music level from the pool during the day and from the hotel bar in the evening is very loud. If you are looking for quiet and relaxation, this is not the place for you. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great escape for a stressed out couple!"
My husband and I had never stayed at an all-inclusive resort, so we weren't sure what to expect. I'm happy to report that Riu Palace Pacifico exceeded our expectations! The hotel is right on the beach - all you do is walk past the pool area and down some steps. Our partial ocean view room had an incredible view and it was quite relaxing to sit on the […] balcony with a good book when the sun got too hot. Food is available 24 hours a day, although the only place that's open 'round the clock is the sports bar and its food looked pretty sketchy (refrigerated hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches and salads, plus a nacho cheese station), and the in-room fridge is refilled every day. On our last day there I got a 30-minute foot massage at the spa for only $35 and it was pure heaven. There is "entertainment" each night, which starts at 10pm (a little late for us), and the shows were hit or miss. The Michael Jackson tribute was painfully bad, but the traditional Mexican dance night was fun to watch. Because the hotel is located in Nuevo Vallarta, which is a long strip of resorts, you can't do anything off the property unless you catch a taxi, which will cost you a minimum of $8 one way. If you want to explore the downtown area, walk along the Malecon, and do some sightseeing, this probably isn't the place for you, but if you're looking for a place where you can completely relax, Riu Palace Pacifico is ideal. We'll definitely stay at another Riu property. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"RIU Home sweet home!"
This was our 5th year visiting the RIU! We love the resort, beach and staff. My husband and I look for a new resort each year and always come to the conclusion to return to the RIU. Why try someplace new when the RIU has everything we need and love? That's why we return year after year! :)Genuine Expedia guest review
Overall, our stay at the Riu Palace Pacifico was outstanding. Pros include the cleanliness of the hotel. Someone was cleaning something constantly and the room was impeccable. The hotel even sent up chocolate covered strawberries, a bottle of sparking wine and a birthday card for my husband with no prompting from us. Nice surprise! Cons were that the […] food was just okay (I'm a big sugar addict at was not impressed with the desserts at all) and there was no computer terminal to use to confirm my return flight. I was told that ALL of the computer terminals in the sports bar were all "off-line" and when I asked where I could check in to my flight home, I was told by the geniuses working the bar, "I don't know," and they promptly went back to their own conversation and offered me no further assistance. Luckily, Vanessa at the customer service desk was free and cheerfully assisted me and printed my boarding pass. The clowns in the sports bar need to work on their hospitality skills. Another glitch was that the time changed while we were there and nobody told us, resulting in us missing our dinner reservation. Not a big deal but when the food is just okay anyway and you're looking forward to having something different, it was a bit disapointing. Do try the Rhythms of the Night tour. It was the highlight of our trip and the best food we had all weekend. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Adequate Resort, Nothing Spectacular"
I have stayed at other resorts in Mexico (Puerto Vallarta and Cancun) and I was not particularly impressed with this one. We stayed in a Junior Suite The food is okay. The service of the staff is adequate. The evening shows are decent. I did not have any problems with theft, despite my worries after reading other reviews. The decor of the place is fantastic. […] Unfortunately, the rooms have rather terrible bedding. The mattresses are covered with some sort of plastic and the bedsheets and pillow cases are fairly poor quality. The shower in the bathroom is very poorly lit. The restaurants in the resort have decent food, but it is not significantly better. The pool is very nice, but at around 3 - 5 the crowd around the bar gets a little too drunk and rowdy. During the Spring Break season, there are lots of students and they can get somewhat noisy and annoying. There are no hot tubs outside, but there are two jacuzzi areas in the pool. The sun chairs in the pool are really cool. The beach is maintained well. The organized activities are somewhat interesting, but there is a limited amount of interesting activities. The kids' area is very small, so most kids spend time in the main pool area. Overall, it is an okay resort for the price, but for the rating, I believe it is not up to standards. "Beautiful common areas, and well staffed."
My kids and I found the hotel lobby and grounds to be beautiful and well maintained. Our room was a Jr. Suite and was adequate, though the double beds were small and the third bed was a pull-out which was very uncomfortable, but for the time spent in your room, we had no problem. The staff, especially the beach and pool staff were outstanding! They […] went out of there way to make it enjoyable. Problem, as with many resorts, is the availability of beach seating, as people reserve them with a towel early in the a.m., but don't show up to use them 'til late afternoon. Cards are given to you at check-in for beach towels, so make sure you have enough when you check-out or the fees are pretty steep. Pool was large and enjoyed by many, but I found it way too warm, as did most of the adults I was with, to be considered refreshing. Spent most time in the Ocean. My high school seniors had a great time and made a lot of friends from round our area. The overwhelming majority of our 30 some people found the buffet dinners better than the sit-down, specialty restaurants which require reservations, and long pants, unless you like the big plate with small portions, artistically created. Overall a good time was had by all. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Proximity to the Pacific Ocean made our trip"
My wife and I had a good overall experience at the Riu Palace Pacifico. The proximity to the Pacific Ocean definitely made a big difference and it was a factor in our decision to visit this location. We travel a lot and stayed at different Riu locations. Although we had a good time, this particular one in Puerto Vallarta did not Wow me or my wife. We […] always look forward to the all inclusive, but we thought the food was OK, and nothing compared to the other locations that we stayed. Also, service at the bar was very slow, it took forever to get a drink and whenever we asked for bottled water (not tap, as we do not want to take a chance of drinking bad water when travelling abroad), they made us go to the front desk and wouldn't give it to us at the bars. We liked the entertainment, but we were hoping to see something a little bit more exciting. The hotel lobby and the bar next to the theater are kind of gloomy, which sends the guests to bed early. Then with so, so shows it was easy to go back to the bedroom earlier. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel, alright food, stealing of belongings."
The hotel propriety itself was beautiful! The staff were very friendly. The only frustrating problem was that a pair of expensive earbuds were stolen out of my room. The way it was handled very poorly. The front desk staff were extremely unhelpful; they did not want to help me fix this problem. I filed a report, however nothing came of it. Part of filing […] the report was that the hotel security guard was required to search my entire room (including all of my belongings), which was pretty demeaning. Overall, it really put a damper on my stay. Based on the handling of this incident, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Why pay more for less?"
This was our second trip with another couple to RPP. I continue to believe that it provides the best value in the region. If you go expecting the same level of quality that you'd get at say an Iberostar Grand, then you'll be disappointed. I'd say RPP probably comes in at around 80%, however. Whether you believe that extra 20% is worth paying significantly […] more is up to you. If you want a romantic, quiet getaway with your spouse, then it might be. If you want to go and have a good time with some friends, then I'd invest the saved money in staying longer. One thing to be aware of: there is no "permanent" shade available at RPP. Many resorts will have palapas available on the beach and near the pool. RPP doesn't have any of these. They do have some moveable umbrellas that people would use in the pool area. There also appeared to be some beach umbrellas rented by a vendor who would dig them into the sand for you. Another thing to be aware of: if you're bringing USD to tip with, make sure you bring everything in small bills as they will not provide change. Alternatively, there is an ATM in the lobby that dispense pesos, which the front desk will happily break into small bills. I'd actually recommend using pesos because the currency is laminated and holds up much better when wet (pool bar!) than do dollars. If we go back to PVR a third time, we'll be back to RPP.
