A very nice resort, 30 minutes from town which may be a blessing. Property is beginning to show its age (ice machine in our building out for at least 3 days, elevator out for last 3 days of our stay and remained out). More frequent and less costly shuttle to town would be an improvement.

We absolutely loved the Intercontinetal in Tahiti. Our only negative comment would be there service in the open air dinning facilities. The service was very slow and inefficient. The resort itself was beautiful, both pools were refreshing and clean, the speciality resturant on the resort was wonderful.

Had to wait 2 hours to get into room, with no place to stay cool in 94 degree weather! Room included recommended bottled water, took 3 calls to get, only allowed 1 liter a day for the room! The cabana hut had beautiful views, but was due for renovation!

This is a beautiful hotel with large, lush grounds and amenities. We were upgraded to a cottage over the water, which was absolutely wonderful; and it started our vacation off is a great way. The staff is very accommodating. Since our cruise didn't leave Papeete until late the day we checked out, they stored our luggage and let us hang out at the resort […] until we were ready to leave. They even have a complementary transit room where we could shower and change clothes before we departed. my experience with most resorts in papette tahiti was satisfactory, I would stay there if i was laid over for a day. There are 2 things which i was dissapointed about and they are the food could be more authentic espacially the local dishes offered and the response I got when I booked excursions outside of the hotel vendors.

This is a good hotel for getting settled in Tahiti... either just arriving or just leaving. From this hotel you are close to the ferry boat to Moorea, and the airport for Air Tahiti flights to all the major Tahitian islands. Close to the airport, that's about it. The overwater bungalows are not private at all. Boats constantly running by. The room was very outdated and in need of help. The common areas and the grounds of the hotel, pool, etc were nice though. We stayed one night going home from Bora Bora. Thank goodness, would have been dissapointed otherwise.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights on our way to Bora Bora, and we were pleased with our choice. The hotel is very conveniently located near the airport (less then 15 min), the grounds are beautiful and although the hotel is a bit outdated, its well maintained, comfortable and clean. The hotel is a 5 minute taxi ride (1000 CFP + 100 CFP/bag duing the day) from the airport. The rooms are comfortable but a little dated. Check-in/check-out can be very slow because of all the overnight guests arriving at the same time. Nice, friendly staff.

What a pleasant way to get off a long flight from LAX and spend our first night in Tahiti. Only about 5 minutes from the airport and yet it's a really nice resort. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful throughout. It was easy to book and obtain sightseeing trips from the hotel. Intercontinental is relatively close to airport. Cab fare was $16 plus $1 per bag from the airport in Feb 2012. We booked one night garden room and were upgraded to view room, and we had previously arranged three nights in a Motu. The […] Motu was quite the experience. We could watch the canoo racers practice, and the view to Morea was exquisite. There is a very pleasant open air bar and an open air restaurant on the lovely and well maintained grounds. If you want to see the show, make reservation at the restaurant on your first day there. Meals are expensive, but it is so in most of Tahiti, as they collect their tax revenue by a GST Tax plus heavy customs duties. Whatever they don't grow or make locally has to be imported and is bound to be expensive. (If cost is an issue, bring along some snacks.) There is a public bus that runs from outside the hotel and also a van with which you can get to Papeete. The van costs more than the bus, and runs less frequently. Papeete's infrastructure leaves much to be desired, but going to the big city market and trying various food there was fun. I was blown over by the high postage rates in Tahiti. To mail one book to U.S. cost over $70, and that was not by express. All in all, I liked the Intercontinental and the island. Read more

The hotel dining was extremely expensive as indicated by previous guests. My husband and I were traveling on our 15th anniversary. We booked a garden view room which was very small but nice. We decided to upgrade to the overwater bungalows and never regreted it for a moment. If you book an over water bungalow make sure to spend the little extra and get the ones farthest away from the airport or you`ll regret getting a bungalow […] at all. This hotel is close to the main town and airport but still costs $30 US for cab ride of 5 mins and there is no negotiation every cab has the same set fee. French Polynesia is better to have French Polynesia currency as US dollars are not widely accepted and the exchange rate at the hotels is aweful. Plan ahead and bring the right currency. Also credit cards are only accepted at hotels; most every where else you need cash. Breakfast cost $60 US per person but if you order room service you can share as their americain breakfasts are huge. All food is expensive with a ceasar salad with chicken costing $26 US for a starter size. Read more

We were placed in a room with a non-workinging air conditioner. We called and they were to send maintenence to fix the problem. It took 2 hours of repeat phone calls to have maintenence show up to the room. Maintenence could not fix the problem so they moved us to a room with an air conditioner which slightly worked. However, the walls were bubbling […] and water was leaking down the sides of the wall. In addition, the toilet didn't work and the fixture to flush the toilet fell off at first try. We had to manually flush the toilet by taking the lid off. They do not provide any of the rooms with hand soap so you need to find housekeeping yourself as the front desk would not help. They said it would come and it never did. The rooms are small and old. The 'oceanview' room is nice if you have a scope to peer between a couple of palm trees - otherwise you can enjoy the grassy area below. The meals of course are expensive but at least a bit larger in portion to others (so it is possible for you to share a meal to limit excessive meal costs). The pool is very nice and the snorkling lagoon is good also - don't step on a sea cucumber though... If you are stranded in Tahiti due to an airport strike like we were - then staying at the best of the worst is okay...but I would not recommend for a 'vacation' stay. Read more

My wife and I stayed at the Intercontinental on the last day of our honeymoon. Previously we had stayed at the Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort and the Hilton on Moorea. In comparison, the Intercontinental was a huge letdown. We stayed in an overwater bungalow, but they are barely over the water -- one side is within 5 feet of the shore. The water was very […] murky, and our bungalow was in serious need of TLC. The sliding doors onto the patio barely worked, and they even got jammed forcing me to wade to shore to get a key from the desk. Not even an apology was offered. We ate at Le Lotus which was definitely not worth the price. We shared Lobster Stew as an appetizer, had sirloins for dinner, and shared a pineapple tart for desert, and the price was about 250 USD without any alcohol. The atmosphere was nice, but the food really didn't impress us. At the hotel, you will constantly hear jet planes taking off and landing. Early in the morning the noise was enough to rumble the bed (which was sagging badly). This hotel seems like it is badly in need of renovations. If possible, we recommend skipping Tahiti entirely and heading to other South Pacific gems. Tikehau was incredible, and Moorea (easily reached by ferry from Tahiti) was wonderful. The Moore Hilton puts the Intercontinental on Tahiti to shame. Read more
