Reviewed by Bob of McMinnville on Sep 21, 2009
My business contacts were located south and east of the hotel. Going from or back to the hotel over the river was always a challenge, traffic wise! Perhaps, my biggest issue was the hotel elevators, You always had to wait for them! If you chose to take the stairs, say down 2 floors for ice, as soon as you went into the stairway the door closed behind you and then you discovered you could not open the door to any floor - all were locked. It was necessary to walk from the 11 floor to the second floor, to escape from the stair well! Key card locks should be installed on each floor door to allow you to escape. Room service food was hit and miss - first night it was great! The second night not so good.

This is a great hotel with even more outstanding front desk personnel. Location was perfect; near city buses and touring buses. Continental breakfast was most enjoyable. Room was luxurious and provided a nice city view.

Classy renovation of 1960s era hotel. Great room- size of a bygone era, wine tasting in the evening and full on breakfast in the morning. Neighborhood a little challenged, but free parking, so bring your auto.

Everything and everyone was beyond our expectations. Front desk staff went out of their way to assist us. The continental breakfast was close to a full meal. Guests even have to use their room keys to access the hotel floors, providing an extra measure of security. The location was great; close to city buses, city tour buses and lots of stores. A winner in every way!

Toiletries, linens, bed comfort-- all excellent!!!! Breakfast included was good. However: the night I arrived was noisy due to wedding guests (walls are very thin). Luckily(?) the air conditioning unit in the room is also very loud, so that drowned out some of the noise both that night and the rest of the week.

The hotel, their service and my rooms greatly exceeded my expectations. It was very comfortable, I felt safe, and it was very clean. Even the complimentary breakfast was excellent; better, more varied spread than many places. Hotel personnel were very helpful and pleasant, attending to a situation immediately which I appreciated. Highly recommend choosing the Matrix.

We loved the location (could walk to bars and restaurants), the style and the exercise room. The wine and cheese was a nice way to unwind at the end of the day. One problem though: their electronics are not user-friendly. The satellite TV systems in the room and the fitness room were difficult to figure out AND they don't have Pay-per-View movies!!!?? Seriously, for such an updated, contemporary hotel, that was a huge disappointment. One night we just wanted to order food and watch a movie in the room... We had to leave and go to the theatre. We recommend it if you don't plan on having a quiet dinner-and-a-movie night.

The Matrix Hotels provides many complimentary extras such as parking, breakfast, Internet access (wired or wireless), and even a wine and cheese hour. The beds are lush and comfortable, the fittings and furniture are top notch, and elegantly appointed. The rooms are on the small side, but they are so pleasant, and so carefully furnished and planned, that it does not matter much. The Matrix is a luxurious little oasis.

I would recommend a stay at the Matrix for people who are impressed with tasteful contemporary design. The only thing that I found disappointing was a shortage of staff, but maybe it was a time of year thing. Overall, very good value for money and good comfort. The free parking and excellent breakfast make it even more worthwhile!
