Let me say, my friends and I really enjoyed our experience at Residenza Il Maggio. Both the room and the bathroom were very clean. The breakfast was fine for me, there was a variety of cereals, bread and jam, fruit, and yogurt. We arrived in the afternoon, when there was no staff, but they left instructions to get in that I found easy to follow. That […] might bother some people, but I really didn't mind at all. If you think you wouldn't like that, arrive before 4 or 5. The location was very quiet, and, since it's right by the American consulate, you can feel relatively safe walking back at night since there are police/soldiers on every corner. LOCATION was good if you could walk alot and do steps. Lot of convenience nearby. The owner was very pleasant and helpful. We wanted more pillows and got them. Our complaint would be our housekeeping for the second day. When we returned from our day we only had 2 towels instead of 4 when we checked in and toilet paper not replaced. Had to get that the […] next morning. No one at the desk to get 2 more. We could have called but didn't have a connection from the phone and we don't travel with cell phones. The TV was difficult to work and limited channels. Could not find even one in English. This was a small but adequate room with a small but adequate modern private bath. It was very clean. It's located near the American Consulate and the street is blocked off to motor vehicles. The staff was great - very helpful. A very nice breakfast was served in the morning. (On some days we would have liked it a little earlier) There was fruit, yogurt, cereal, toast, jam, and a selection of cereals with wonderful fresh-brewed Italian coffee! The rooms are not air conditioned, which was no problem at all in late September. And it's only a few blocks from Trattoria Armando, where you can get great Tuscan food at a reasonable price. We stayed a few nights. The rooms were OK but the service was lacking. There is only someone there in the morning and she wasn't very friendly. Some of the dooms don't have external windows. Breakfast was below average. Good place only if you want no frills and just a cheap-ish bedroom.

The B&B was located fairly close to the railway station and impressively close to the river. It turned out the US embassy was close by so the area was quiet and safe. On arrival there was a note on the door saying they were out however they had left the key and code for the door - a sure sign the area was safe - and we didn't see them until morning […] as we returned late. The room was really nice and the whole place had a lovely feel to it, definitely more B&B than hotel. Breakfast was good and overall we really enjoyed our stay. I found a note and a key stuck to the main door when i reached the hotel. I realized, there was no resident management on this b&b. The stairway was pitch dark to navigate and in plain simple terms, my start to florence vacation was dreadful. The internet seems to be shared with too many guests so expect speeds from stone age. I really enjoyed the hotel's relative proximity to the train station and the city centre. It is very convenient for those who have to walk a lot, because one can enjoy a nice stroll on the Lungarno which can be both efficient AND romantic. The rooms are relatively comfortable: I would have appreciated a couple of extra pillows, and a few extra degrees […] in the bathroom (which was quite cold in the morning). Tidiness and cleanliness are by all means the strongest point of the hotel. Bathroom, towels, linen were impeccably clean. As for the food, quality could have been better: the selection is very simple (yogurt, corn flakes, muesli, plain bread), and lacks freshly-baked goods and selection. Il personale è molto cortese e disponibile. Peccato per gli ambienti che sembrano un po' datati e trascurati. La nostra stanza era illuminata solo da un lucernario, che si affaccia su un cortile interno, e quindi era sprovvista di una finestra vera e propria; fortunatamente la camera era dotata di aria condizionata.

È un piccolo B&B a gestione famigliare, la stanza e il bagno erano spaziose. Camera pulita, personale cordiale e disponibile. Il quartiere è residenziale, ci sono alberghi e uffici, pochi negozi. Facilmente raggiungibile dall'autostrada (in pratica sempre dritto), è all'interno della zona a traffico limitato, il parcheggio in Piazza Vittorio Veneto […] è caro (agosto 2011), perché è pensato per soste brevi. Si consiglia di andare in treno, altrimenti per la macchina è possibile avere indicazioni dal proprietario.. A piedi sul lungarno sono 15 min dal ponte vecchio e 10 min dalla stazione, 20 da Santa Maria del Fiore (duomo). È possibile prendere anche la nuova tramvia a 5 min a piedi dall'albergo e arrivare alla stazione di Santa Maria Novella e poi da lì in centro, oppure viceversa se si arriva con le valige può essere comoda per raggiungere l'albergo. Colazione buona, aria condizionata, free wireless. Avevamo necessità di doppie chiavi e ci sono venuti in contro. Unico neo: due rampe di scale per accedere e il personale non sempre presente.
