It was an ok stay but I can't say I was impressed at all. First of all the room I stayed in seemed quite small but it wasn't a problem for me and a friend of mine, although the bathroom is quite large comparatively. The hotel uses the central air system therefore you can't adjust the temperature to your liking. You can however open the windows but that […] also means more noise coming from the street and food odor from the hotel restaurant down below during daylight hours. There's a small refregerator which, sadly, is stocked with only a pitcher of water and some small cups of milk. I wish the front desk was quicker at answering phone calls for several times I tried to call but no one answered. All the negatives aside, I have to give some credits to the receptionists - they were very friendly and helpful and the hotel is not bad for 1 night stay. Read more

OLDER BUILDING ON THE OUTSIDE BUT ROOM WAS RECENTLY UPDATED AND VERY COMFORTABLE. GOOD LOCATION NEAR SKY TOWER. HAD A FULL KITCHEN ALSO. GREAT FOR THE MONEY.

Parking is a HUGE PAIN. When I arrived, no one was at the valet, and it was unclear what I was supposed to do with my car. When I finally found their lot and buzzed in, I was told there was no more room and hung up on. No one to help with bags. No AC. VERY uncomfortable beds. Stay somewhere else.

Did not meet expectations. Bathroom had a stinky drain, the smell of which permeated the room. Room vacuumed regularly but otherwise not that clean - e.g. visible stain on wall from blood / mucous near bathroom door.

For the price The Auckland City Hotel was fine. The room, while basic, was clean. It could have done with a more cheerful decor and our toiletries were never replenished, when we did request our room to be serviced. The staff were just passable. Staff were friendly. Room was excessively warm on arrival. A free-standing a/c unit was available, but operated only while I was in the room (room key activates lights, switches). Moreover, the a/c was vented into the walls - I could feel hot air coming out of the light fixtures in the ceiling while the unit was on. Good location, helpful staff. Charge for internet, but you can request a "pass" for 30 mins use per day at NO CHARGE. Restaurant is pretty good! Prices are a little high, but it sure is convenient. Great weather in mid-March, but rain is always a consideration. Come prepared, just in case!

auckland city hotel on hobson was convenient to downtown and many restaurants. clean rooms, great value and plenty of space for a downtown location. we were initially disappointed when hearing the internet was not free, but found the $10/hr worked for us. auckland was built on hills...so keep this in mind when planning your hike to and from transportation […] hubs. the neighborhood seemed pretty safe...the only issue was our catching the "airbus" to the auckland airport 4 am sunday morning. queen street was full of inebriated party animals, litter and a bit dicey. we did not encounter that when catching the "airbus" 2 weeks earlier 4 am on a tuesday. i would recommend airport shuttle service from your hotel for early sat or sunday am transportation. I really liked staying at this hotel. I must admit, I was a bit cautious and held low expectations prior to arrival, based on the cost. My friends and I were looking for something inexpensive and being from out of the country, we weren't sure what to expect based on the lower price. However, we were completely shocked. The rooms were great (very modern), […] very clean and the bedding was very comfortable. We had read the the location is not close to many conveniences, but we found that not to be true. If you walk out to the left or right of the bldg and go at least a block or two, you can find lots of things, to include markets in which to buy food for your room. There is a great market right across the street. The only down fall, if any, was that there are no restaurants right at the hotel. There is an Asian restaurant in the hotel. We never went to it. It was always empty. But, other reviewers indicated that it wasnt good. If you walk out the bldg and go left and down two blocks, you will come to several eating options. We at a Denny's almost everyday for breakfast, along with a cafe called Hollywood, which if you walk out the hotel and go right, its three blocks up. On that same street, there are a ton of other food options. I still cannot get over the price and how well the rooms and location were. I had two seperate rooms with three days seperating the stays. The first room while clean was very basic. The second room was a slight upgrade and very nice. The hotel itself while not in the best area was just two blocks off a main section of the city.

I was very pleased with Auckland City Hotel. The room was very clean and inviting and the staff is excellent. It was my first time in New Zealand and they were very helpful to direct me to some neat little shops and restaurants. When I was trying to get to the city of Hamilton, the staff was extremely helpful in finding the best mode of transportation […] for me and even booking passage on a bus. The area itself seems a bit dodgy at first, but there were times when I was walking back to the hotel well past midnight and at no point did I not feel safe. If you have 5 star taste then perhaps look elsewhere, but if you just need a clean, comfortable place to stay, I highly suggest this hotel. We stayed in Auckland for two nights at this hotel. The accomodations exceeded our expectations, but we did not love the immediate surroundings. It was not as close to the city center as we expected, but it was not a horrible distance. The closest airport shuttle is about a 10-minute walk. The room was clean and staff very friendly.
