"A HOME AWAY FROM HOME, NOT, ABSOLUTELY NOT"
Could not wait to say goodbye to all the dustballs, the no ventilation, suffocating rooms and the overwhelmingly under furnished, under equipped place. To add insult to injury, the beds and pillows are soft and horrible. The ironical thing is that the motto of the hotel is a home away from home?????????????????Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"FAR, FAR, FAR AWAY FROM HOME"

This effeciency apartment hotel, the opal, sit on the most convenient and desirable area, just a few steps to trendy 17th Ave. We, the wedding party, from Toronto, Boston and Hong Kong occupied a 2 bedroom suite and a studio suite. We soon found out that the studio is thousand times better equipped and furnishings whilst the 2bedroom suite is in dire need of improvements and TLC!! It was plainly overwhelmingly under furnished, under equipped, under ventilated, substandard cleaning and on and on...... The 2nd bedroom has no chest of drawers but instead a dining table???? There is no ventilation in there whilst the master bedroom has a ceiling fan, a chest of drawers and a TV!!!!!! The additional fans that were provided were either broken or filthy. The so called A/C unit we found had no outside hose so made it redundant. We had to suffer through the heat and great discomforts on our arrival night and subsequent evenings during our entire 10 day's stay. The washer/dryer unit took an entire day to do a miniscule load. The bathroom sink has no stopper and for contact lenses users, we have to be precariously creative. Would it be too much to suggest that the management make sure that the suites are well ventilated, cleaned, equipped and comfortable, affording the guests a home away from home ??????? At the end of our stay, after attending my only son and my sisters' only nephew's wedding, we were all so glad to bid farewell to the dustballs-in-residence, the softie-beds and other redundancies. We even rejoiced and embraced the cold and wet snow coming down in buckets outside.
"Beautiful units, accommodating and friendly"

While the main method of communication with this hotel is by phone or email, we were impressed with the organization, ability to accommodate and prepare us for extra nights' stay for unforeseen circumstances and prompt replies in a friendly manner. The units themselves are incredibly clean, spacious, comfortable and equipped. Having the kitchen/suite style was convenient and a great home away from home in a great location close to all amenities and 17th Ave. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you.

We rented two units at The Vetro which is part of the O Hotel Suites as I understand it. The location was convenient and just a few minutes away from downtown Calgary. Keep in mind that there is shelter for street people called Alpha House which is on the 15th Avenue side of the hotel. At times it could be a bit noisy but we felt that it was not a major issue. Our two bedroom unit was ideal for us. All of the appliances were modern and in good working order. The unit was clean except for one of the units where there were several large stains in the carpet. When my wife brought it to their attention they refunded us the daily parking charge of $15 which we were pleased with. At times we found the elevators quite busy because it is a 30+ story condominium tower. The parking worked well and was very secure with several locked entrances. Across from the hotel are the Stampede Grounds so again keep in mind that it is convenient although I would guess it could be noisy during Stampede. We were happy with our stay at The Vetro and would recommend .

We stayed at Ovation hotel in July and it was an excellent stay! Just one thing...I wondered if the staffs cleaned all the dishes...it all looked not that clean so we needed to wash them before using them. But other than that, its convenient, has nice interior decor and very helpful staffs so we really enjoyed our stay.

I stayed at the O Hotel Suites July 21 and 22, 2014. The room was lovely and exactly what the pictures looked like! This is not always the case when getting a hotel. The room had a comfortable bed, sitting area, kitchen and bathroom, with a washer/dryer. In the suite were toiletries and some small snacks with a bottle of water which was nice. The staff were helpful when I had questions and were great in accommodating parking for my daughter when she came for a visit. The location was conveniently located within walking distance of downtown and also the trendy district of 17th. The only down side is that the building is in a rougher area of town. Also had free wifi!

we stayed here for seven nights and the only issue we had was the shower was not working on the first night. we reported it the next morning and it was fix straight away, first class service. This apartment was located in a quite neighbourhood and was within two minuets walking distance from all the restaurants and bars you could need. If we are back in Calgary again we would defiantly use O Hotels again.
"Excellent concept, amazing staff!"

My girlfriend and I just stayed at Ovation in Calgary. We have been in a couple hotels in Canada during the trip and this place was perfect. The virtual desk concept was really cool, it was all through e-mail and during the week we were there if we had questions, we just had an instant answer back on a text message. The staff was very respectful and helpful, one of the guys let us use his charger for our phones for the entire week so we didn't have to buy another one! They also spoke French and German (Anna, my girlfriend, is Swiss) so it was nice to talk in those languages again. The place was very clean and reminded us of home. The location was great! There are a lot of restaurants and bars around, so we can just walk outside. The staff told us good places to go for dinner and places to visit, and when we asked them how to go to the museums and parks they even printed us a map with the bus instructions. We had discounts on other restaurants for staying there (I think it was called Le Bistro). But also having a good kitchen was good to cook breakfast and stuff. City is very nice nice and clean, when we come back from Vancouver with our friends we will definitely stay here again. Awesome!

Our stay at the O Suites Ovation was a disaster. We picked this hotel because it advertised itself as a quiet, neighborhood alternative to traditional properties in Calgary. What management did not disclose is that the bar next door has live music which turned out to be an incredibly loud band in the parking lot about 20 feet from our room window. Management was unsympathetic, admitted they are aware of the loud weekend music (which continued on the Monday night before we departed), admitted they did not disclose this issue to us and refused a refund stating they had no control over the next door bar. When we insisted, they moved us to the other side of the building but this did not sufficiently ameliorate the problem--the music was outrageously loud. The failure to disclose this clearly unacceptable condition and the refusal to refund so we could move is an unacceptable response from a commercial operator which needs a good refresher on business integrity. (If the owner responds by blaming this on special events that bar hosted during the Calgary Stampede-- as they did with us--note that the bar website states they offer live music on the weekends. Even if this was true, they had a duty to disclose this loud music issue to those who sought to make reservations)

We stayed here for 3 nights and everything was perfect. The room , the service and it was super clean. We will stay here again and there is a great breakfast diner called reds across the road. Parking was also easy.
"Better than a hotel room"

My wife and I decided to stay at O Hotel Suites for 2 nights after reviewing on Trip Advisor hotels and other accommodation options within walking distance of downtown Calgary and finding that O Hotel Suites was by far the best value. And we are glad we decided to stay. Our 1 bedroom apartment (room 205) was much better than a hotel room - far more spacious and providing facilities you don't get in a hotel room (eg a kitchen with essential cooking utensils, a microwave, and a full size refrigerator; and a washing machine/dryer). Although the apartment is self-catering the O Hotel people provided basic supplies in the room on arrival to get you going, eg toiletries, tea/coffee - just like in a hotel. Of course, unlike in a hotel they are not replenished so when you run out of the supplies you have to go shopping to get your own. In this regard there are a number of convenience shops in the surrounding streets and a large Safeway supermarket about 15 minutes walk along 4th street in the direction opposite to downtown. O Hotel Suites does not have a reception desk or provide other services that a hotel might provide but there is an onsite office during business hours and other contact information is given if an issue should arise. I contacted the office on our second day to see if they had a set of scales we could use to weigh our baggage in preparation for our flight next day. There wasn't a set in the building but the girl I spoke with said she would see if she could find one elsewhere and put it in the room later in the day (if we were out). And she did. Very good customer service. (At our previous hotel stop in Banff I had asked the same question of the reception staff to be met with a firm 'no' and no offer to try and locate a set). The room had a comfortable queen size bed, a sitting area with sofa, entertainment unit, TV and DVD player. Complimentary wifi was available in the room and unlike another reviewer who complained that the speed was slow I found it to be very good. The bathroom was on the small size (although equivalent to a lot of the hotel bathrooms we had during our 5 weeks touring in Canada). Only a minor complaint. The location is good - a 15 minute walk to downtown and there are cafes, a liquor store, convenience stores, etc in the surrounding area. Very conveniently there is an irish pub (Rose and Crown) right next door for cold ales and meals. The only issue I found with our stay was that for some reason I did not sleep well (unfortunately I am a relatively light sleeper). It wasn't a matter of noise, and I have put it down to the fact that the room only had venetian blinds so that light from the nearby street lights shone through and made the apartment more twilight than dark at night. This was enhanced by a sensor light on the building right outside our window which regularly went on and off whenever there was movement outside (not sure what was activating it but it was turning on throughout the night). Perhaps heavier curtains could be considered for that room when renovations are considered. But overall I was very pleased with our stay and would not hesitate to stay again if we came back to Calgary. Recommended.
