"LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
This little hotel has location, location, location! It is less than 5-10 minutes walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, & Tempolo Adriano. It is about 15-20 minutes from the Coliseum, the Forum, and Vittoria Emmanuelle, around 25-30 minutes from Piazza del Popolo, and a half hour from the Vatican. Seconds away from the main artery Via Del Corso, you can’t get a better location for a more reasonable price. The front desk staff is wonderful and Tomosso in particular will not hesitate to recommend the best restaurants and tell you how to get to all the sites within Rome. He recommended fabulous restaurants and mapped out a walkable itinerary of sites daily for us. If you don’t care to walk, the hop on hop off bus is two minutes away. What really sets this hotel apart is the 5th floor outside deck with a panoramic view which is used for breakfast in the morning and a possible night cap at night. What a way to start and end a day. It was beyond gorgeous and really a delightful highlight to a memorable stay in Rome. The rooms are big enough to accommodate two easily and are clean and neat. The only difficulty I encountered was that I was unable to connect to Wi-Fi but instead used the downstairs computer. Some of the rooms on the upper floors are only accessible by a short stairway which is difficult with heavy luggage. Other than that, our stay was perfect and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Excellent, convenience to airport was essential.

We did not get information that payment by card was not accepted. The breakfast was poor, bread from yesterday, cerials too sweet. The juice was more like lemonade than fruit-juice.
"Would stay there again"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Had a great experience. Our triple room was clean and bed very comfortable, including pillows. 40 inch hd tv with all the sky channels with the options to switch to English language. Filled a form with time and choices for breakfast . Arrived on time and plenty of food. ( Italian style breakfast) . Front desk nice and helpful. Near American embassy, hard rock cafe' , villa borghese park( very nice!) . Would stay there again and reccomand it to friends and family

Room was so small that we could barely walk around the bed and there were no drawers in which to put clothes. The buffet breakfast, however, was outstanding and the location very convenient. Front desk staff could be friendlier. The room was much smaller than the photo for that level of accommodation

The world’s smallest country, Vatican City is dominated by St Peter’s, Christendom’s largest church. Michelangelo’s humbling ‘Pietà’ and his Sistine Chapel ceiling frescos are among the world’s greatest works of art. The Aurelio area is named after the ancient Via Aurelia, the main road that connected Rome with Spain, and is convenient for visiting the city’s sights.

"Hotel Residence Tassoni- good price, decent stay"
THE HOTEL/ROOM: My wife and I stayed a couple weeks at this location. We would definitely stay again but the hotel is dated. The desk staff were friendly and all spoke English well. Our early check out was made a bit odd/difficult by the fact that the desk is not manned between 11pm- 7am. However, after talking to the deskman, a solution to our problem […] was found. The room itself (studio) was small but functional; having a tiny kitchenette literally in a small closet, a table big enough for two chairs, closet and drawer space for clothing, a double bed, a small bathroom, and a dorm-sized fridge. A couple notable positive aspects of the room were the high ceilings and the large outer windows that let plenty of natural light into the space. The room was cleaned daily and fresh towels were provided. However, there is no "do not disturb" option, and the cleaning staff will show up early. There were a couple negatives about the hotel including the putrid smell emanating somewhere from within our bathroom since day one, the shower pressure was a literal trickle unless the hot and cold knobs were repeatedly turned up, and there was always the possibility of being burnt by the water (which would come to a boil in the sink and shower if the hot water knob was turned up enough). There was also a small leak in the hot water heater, which was above the kitchenette, and subsequently dripped brown water onto the cabinet and sink. It never got very cold in the room, but one could not turn the heat above 64 F, which led to a bit of a chill at night. LOCATION: The location of the hotel was pretty good. It's not in the middle of everything, which is actually kind of nice, but it's close enough to transportation in order to get around pretty easily. It's fifteen minutes walk from the Cipro metro station and the vatican walls. The 913 and 999 bus stops are right across the street (which one can take right to central Rome). There is a tobacconist nearby which you can purchase metrobus tic Read more

What an enjoyable and pleasant property.....convenient to public transportation, markets, cafe, restaurants, etc. The staff was extremely polite and VERY helpful with questions, directions, and transportation arrangements to the airport and around the city. Would love to spend time here again sometime.
"Wonderful apartment but Hot"
The Villa Tassoni gave us a very nice 2 room apartment. One room was a bedroom and the other was both bedroom and dining area, with TV and a small kitchen attached. It enabled us to bring in drinks and breakfast makings so we could save on one meal of the day. The staff was very nice and tried their best to help us any time we needed them. Our adapters […] did not fit their electrical sockets and they lent us one. Although the apartment had air conditioning, and was set to 18 degrees celsius, it never cooled down to anywhere near 18. Rome is so hot in August that opening the windows did not help. The bathroom shower had a half door that did not keep the floor from becoming flooded when we held the shower head or mounted it in its holder. The local buses stopped right across the street, making it very easy to ride to the local Metro station and have easy access to all of Rome or get close to the Vatican. Overall, we would heartily recommend Villa Tassoni any time other than August. Read more
Everything about this hotel worked well for us except the shower. No matter how hard we tried, the bathroom flooded and ran out onto the bedroom floor. The very small partition on half of the tub just did not work for us.
"Nice Place to Stay When in Rome"
If you enjoy walking, this is the hotel to choose for your stay in Rome. It is close to the Metro, but also within walking distance from the Vatican (maybe 20 minutes). In fact, we walked to the Coloseum, the Pantheon, and back--it took maybe 6-7 hours (including dinner and several stops for sightseeing). Without the stops, you could walk to the Coloseum […] and back in just a few hours. Highly recommended. Read more
"Residence Villa Tassoni in Rome, Italy"
The Villa Tassoni is a lovely place to stay. The location was excellent being near The Vatican and on the bus line, close to a Metro stop. Carlo, the Concierge, was very helpful, friendly, and extremely gracious. The room was very clean, with a well-supplied kitchenette and a refrigerator which we appreciated. In the immediate neighborhood there are […] many fruit stands, cafes and some excellent restaurants at reasonable prices as well as lovely shops for clothing and quality merchandise. this is primarily a residential neighborhood with many apartments and villas. We felt very safe here walking at night--many people out and about. A stay here would be improved with a more comfortable bed, but if I were in Roma again, we would certainly stay here again. "Less comfortable than living in a Teepee"
The hotel was clean and comparatively spacious for the rate. The shower was very poorly constructed, with a glass door that only covered half of the tub, making it almost impossible to shower without getting water on the floor. Also, this was the single most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on in my life, and that includes a cot I set up in a teepee […] for three months. Read more
"Residence Villa Tassoni April 2011"
Sayed 4 nights in April. Good location, a bit of a walk or ride on bus/metro but worth being a little outside of the most touristy areas for resturants are a little cheeper and can find 2 grocery stores within walking distance. Great to have a refrigerator and little cook-top and sink, eating out in Rome is quite expensive and can get a little old after […] a while. Bus 913 runs right outside the hotel and takes you to the vatican metro stop, or about 20min walk to St. Peter's. Only 2 small complaints, the bed is quite hard but after walking and touring all day it didn't matter much, and the hot water will only last one very quick shower, but 30 min later it will be ready to go again. Room had balcony and overlooked little garden area that could be used by the residents. Would stay there again, area felt very safe even walked a little after dark, no problems at all even a little pub down the street, a resturant, flowershop, mini-market, and espresso shop a little further down. "Out of the way but it works"
Lots of space sums it up. We had a large balcony which was a nice plus. The room was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. There are plenty of places to eat within a 5 minute walk. It took us 20 minutes to walk to the Vatican Museums although the bus stops across the street. We took the bus and metro to other areas of Rome we wanted to visit. The […] best part was, we were living amongst the locals and that is exactly what we wanted to do. If you want a slightly out of the way place, but with some elbow room, this is a good choice. "Good budget accommodation"
I had looked around at a lot of rome accommodation on the internet within this price range and there wasn't a lot on offer. i was pleasantly surprised by the size of accommodation, the helpfulness of staff and the cleanliness. Our rooms and kitchenette were basic but comfortable. We stayed 6 nights. The location is not too far from the metro station […] but is up a slight hill, maybe a 5-10 min walk. it is convenient for supermarkets and we found 3 very good local restaurants which were probably more reasonably priced than more central ones. We enjoyed our stay. Read more
"Handy for sight seeing"
Hotel was a 15 min walk from the Vatican. A 10 min walk from Cipro Metro. Easy to find. Very warm welcome, could not have asked for more, we were given a map of Rome and the man advised us on the best places to go without us even asking, very helpful and friendly. We were in a 'Junior Suite', we were very pleased with the size. Generous living area […] with tv, single bed/couch and kitchenette. Bedroom was fine with double bed, hat stand and wardrobe. Bathroom was long and narrow and included a bath with a hand held shower. No problem with hot water. There was a room off the sitting room with a table and chairs and a fridge. Off this were two balconys. We didn't get to make use of them as it was too hot out but they would be very handy for sunbathing if you wanted. My only complaint would be the cleaning staff. They were very persistent with ringing and knocking on the door. There was no do not disturb sign so they rarely gave up on calling on you until you left. They didn't even seem to do much, the towels weren't changed (I suppose they didn't really need to but we did stay 4 nights), the dishes weren't washed (no cleaning products were supplied to do this yourself). Otherwise the hotel was as good as we could have hoped for. Read more

The room was very basic. Although it had a small "kitchen" it did not have basics like a coffee maker. The dishes and utensils were mix and match and there was 1 coffee mug for 3 people, two forks, etc. You were expected to wash what you used but there was not a dish cloth or towel. The hot water ran out after 5 min for a shower so 3 people had to really […] stagger shower time. The location was pretty good. For the price it was ok. Read more
"Good quality, great price, good location"
This hotel is only a few blocks away from the Vatican, it is a nice walk that allows you to see the real roman life. The nearest metro station is a little less than one mile away and the hotel is easy to find. The rooms were very clean and the staff very friendly. If you stay here notice that the shower is electrically heated and hot water only lasts […] around 10 min. This might be an inconvenience when more than one people wants to shower. Read more

"Have stayed in better hotels at this rate...!"
The hotel is clean and the staff is helpful. the location is close to vatican but quite far from the city center (although a bus goes straight to center from the hotel's street). The taxi from airport fuimicino to the hotel costs around 55 eur, while taxi from airport to rome city center is 40 eur. So if you stayed in the city center, you would also […] be saving on that! I would like to stay closer to city center if I ever go to Rome again instead of Vatican. the overall condition of the hotel is a bit gloomy. Our bathroom had a few cracked tiles and old wooden windows which makes the hotel building look quite old. No breakfast (even if you are willing to pay). For this reason I believe the room rent is a bit more than what the hotel deserves. I have stayed in better hotels in more expensive cities at similar rate. Read more
"Not for couples"
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We weren't after anythihing super "honeymoon-ish", we more wanted something convenient and reasonablly priced. The customer service was good and all the staff we met understood and spoke English well. It was in a reasonable location and we were able to get to the metro easily enough. There were also convienent […] buses which went by (infact they stopped less then 50 meters from the hotel in both directions). We faced two issues with the room. The first was that the "double" bed was indeed two single beds crammed next to eachother, very uncomfortable. The bedroom itself was quite roomy however. The second issue was that the placement of the toilet in the bathroom ment that your right side was touching the heater, your left side the sink, and your knees were touching the bidet. This was poor design and made it uncomfortable to go to the toilet. This is the kind of hotel you should go to if you are a lone traveler. If you are traveling with your partner there are better locations. Read more

"Hotel Villa Tassoni"
We were really pleasantly surprised by this hotel! Although it isn't the best location ever it is near a metro station and we walked from the centre every day. "Villa Tassoni"
We had four nights here. The place was okay, but could have been better with a little effort from the management. The fridge needed to be defrosted, the mattress should be replaced with a firm one and the shower should be placed in a different spot over the bath - and with a "whole" shower screen all would have been perfect. But otherwise there were […] the stuff we needed (well maybe expect a washing up brush and tea towel). The place is nothing fancy, but it has what you need. It is in walking distance to Vatican and the other major sights. But naturally that depends on your fitness and likeness of walking. But if you are looking for a place to basically sleep, shower and maybe have something to eat, then this is perfectly fine. Plus if you are not that keen on the walking, then there is a bus right outside and a metro station just down the road. Read more

for the price, this was a good choice, and very close to the Vatican so nice and accessable. the staff were helpful. the extractor fan over the cooker looked as if it had not been cleaned for months though - dust hanging off it. that was the only real downside and i would be happy to recommend despite this.
"The Villa Tassoni - use the bus!"
The room could have been cleaner and better equipped - for example there was no kettle - but for Rome prices we concluded this was probably reasonably good value overall. There is a (pay) self service washing machine and tumble drier in the hotel which you can use. The hotel is located a bit out of the centre and not close to a Metro (underground) stop […] but the bus service is very good. The 913 bus route takes you into the centre, stops outside the hotel, and runs every 5-10 minutes it seemed to us - a good travelling around option. Read more

"Residence Tassoni -worth trying to find"
Although it proved a little difficult for us to find, the villa was a great place to stay. Once you work out the bus system it is easy and quick to get to a metro station or even the middle of town (on the 913 Bus). The staff at this hotel were superb-all very friendly and helpful. The rooms were small but clean and had a small hotplate and basic kitchen […] utensils so you could cook a meal. "Great rooms, safe neighbourhood, central location"
This hotel is walking distance from the Appiano (Trenitalia) and Cipro Museum Vaticani (Rome Metro) stations and is on the route of several buses that can take you to Vatican City (913, 990, 999) and the Cipro Metro station (907) if you prefer to take the bus rather than walk. We were in Rome in November, so the hotel (and sights in Rome/ Vatican City) […] were not crowded. We booked a suite for three and did not have any complaints about the room or the service of the hotel. Although the hotel does not offer room service, there are pizzerias and resaturants nearby (we normally ate before we returned to the hotel or picked up something on the way back to the hotel). Just one word of caution: watch out for your valuables on the Metro and Trenitalia trains as well as when you visit the sights around Rome and Vatican city - Rome is infested with pickpockets. "Good value for money"
Rome is an expensive city, so it was great to find good value accommodation that was not too far from the centre. Our apartment was clean and far larger than we had expected - with a roomy ensuite bedroom, kitchenette with table, chairs and sofa plus a third room with a day bed. A good way of saving money is to use the facilities to self cater (food […] seems very pricey in Rome), although the pizzeria 5 mins up the road was also excellent. The area felt safe and getting around was fine - we walked towards the Vatican every day (about 15 mins), where we took a metro train from Cipro station into the centre or walked. The only downside was getting to the hotel from Fiumcino airport - in hindsight the easiest way is to get a train direct to Trastevere and then to change to a train to Appiano, which is 5 min walk from the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel to all Rome visitors who don't mind not being in the very centre of the city and who would enjoy self-catering. Read more
