Rooney's Boutique Hotel - Buenos Aires

Similar to two star pensione in Europe. Did not expect a third floor hotel from the pics and a PBS review I had seen. Could walk to almost any site. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spare and clean.The breakfast was a decided plus. The people I met terrific.

Antique furniture, high ceilings, claw foot tub, and French doors to a balcony that overlooks the city. This is a romantic hotel that has an old world feel.

Only concerns from my part; Shower space is small, and the locks are not the easiest to operate. But the locks part is due to the use of original "very vintage" type of door locks! Hotel is cute, staff is excellent and it is superbly located!

This is a nice, small & intimate hotel in a great central location. Comfortable & stylish - staff friendly and helpful. Went out of there way to make our stay enjoyable. Obviously wealthy people had lived there: beautiful stained glass windows, nice atmosphere, great staff and very wonderful breakfasts. I would say this was more like a hostal than a hotel. It was in a bad area, it was noisy and in need of refurbishment and the service was non existant. The breakfast was not fit o eat. All in all the worst accommodation and value for money!

If you are looking for a little indulgence on your next stay to Buenos Aires, without staying at a major hotel and without paying top dollar for it, then the Rooney is certainly on your top 5 list. Rooneys hotel was great. I arrived a little angry after an overnight flight and then being ripped off by a cab driver. But the service was excellent and the condition of the hotel great. It's such a great hotel. I love it, completely. I stayed two nights in room 1 and 3 with balcony facing Avenue Callao, a busy street. I love watching cars and people passing my balcony, but if you are a light sleeper, avoid room 1-3 and ask for a room facing, Samiento, a side alloy, which is way quieter and nice.

The hotel is very central to all the sites and only one block from subway and theaters. Hotel is on third floor of a private building. You must be buzzed into the lobby, then up three floors (no signs at all to guild you!), then you must be buzzed INTO the lobby (one small sign in Spanish.) Staff was GREAT, very friendly and spoke English. However, […] was there three days and not once was my room cleaned even after asked (both Spanish and English) twice. No towels, no bed services, no paper for the bathroom (actually supplied my own). The only thing that worked in my room was the wifi. (no ac, no heat, but....VERY BEAUTIFUL ROOM!!!) You MUST be buzzed int the building twice (see above), and buzzed out of the building (once again, no signs or instructions). If it had not been for a kind person (the taxy driver), I would never have gotten into the hotel. I recomend that you speak Spanish to stay here....It greatly helped. Nice free breakfest, by the way. Stayed at this hotel at the beginning of our holiday then joined a cruise. Returned to the hotel at the end of our cruise. The hotel is very unique, very small entrance with one old fashioned lift to hotel floor. Good security. Loved the high ceilings and the rooms. Plenty of restaurants in the area. Handy to grocery shopping. Very good buffet breakfast […] provided. Staff were very helpful. We arrived there approximately 10am after our cruise and were able to go to our room, plus they brought cups of coffee and cake to us. We had to leave early the next morning and they offered to bring coffee/tea to our room before our departure. Very central position. A true gem in Bs Aires, Rooneys is a boutique hotel situated very centrally for visiting the main tourist sites in Bs Aires. Apart from an uncomfy mattress and squeaky bed, this hotel is frankly amazing for the price. The cleanest hotel I have seen for a good while! Great service, nice breakfast; would stay there again without hesitation.

A great place to stay if you are interested in seeing the interior of those wonderful turn of the century Buenos Aires buildings. Don't however take the offer of airport pickup from the domestic airport as this was way overpriced.

This was a fantastic experience in Buenos Aires, the building was very 19th century european and the room matched perfectly. 20 foot ceilings, wooden floors and chandeliers, even in the bathroom. The location was good and we very much enjoyed the stay, even the free Tango lesson!

Only stayed one night but enjoyed it very much. A very quaint little hotel, within walking distance to the main centre of BA. Warm and full of character, we especially, got a kick out of the antique elevator! Friendly staff. However, our room was small and not very sound proof.

Rooney's is my favourite hotel on Buenos Aires. It has a welcoming feel as soon as you walk through the door. The staff are exceptional and you feel more like a guest in someone's home rather than being in a hotel. I have used the hotel on business and holidays and the location is great for both.

The hotel doesn't look very nice on the outside but don't let yourself get fooled by this, it's very nice, clean, safe,pleasant. The staff is wonderful, very nice. They even have some cereal, coffee, tea, bread for us at 4am. Too bad we couldn't stay here any longer. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel occupies the third floor of an old, residential building in Buenos Aires. Security is tight. The door to the street is locked and is opened by the concierge upstairs in response to the door bell. Once upstairs (after an interesting journey in the old, mechanical lift), the front door to the hotel itself is opened, again in response to a door […] bell. To leave, the process is reversed (although you can open the door to the hotel from the inside yourself. We were told that local security on the street is 'reasonable'. This was evident by the practice at an excellent restaurant nearby, which kept its door locked and admitted diners only on request. Nevertheless, the hotel is quite conveniently located in Buenos Aires. Our room (a superior double) was smaller than expected but beautifully decorated. It was rather noisy, overlooking the main street, although the windows are double-glazed. The shower was hot and strong. Breakfast was good. We didn't get a free tango lesson. (It is available only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights - our booking was for Saturday and Sunday nights - nevertheless, our booking confirmation stated that a free tango lesson was included! Oh, well.) Overall, Rooney's is a lovely hotel, and a refreshing change from the more corporate style. Read more

The best thing about Rooney´s is the staff. They are so friendly and ready to help. The hotel is well placed for sightseeing - it is just a 10 minute walk to the Obelisk. The building itself is quite old (the lift looks like it was built in the 1930´s) but the rooms are comfortable, and the breakfasts are good too.

I would definitely not rate this hotel as a 4 star rating. It is far too overrated and overpriced. It is more like a backpackers than a "boutique" hotel: * Rooms are tiny with barely any room to move and outside traffic very noisy; * Outside the front entrance there are lots of rubbish bags and people sitting outside that looked like potential thieves. […] Does not look like a safe area; * There was lack of tissues, toilet roll in the room and reception had to be contacted repeatedly to re-stock; * The serving portions at breakfast was a joke. My partner was given the tiniest slice of bacon and a small egg for the cooked breakfast. * Didn't use the bar facilities but the drinks prices were way over-priced. * Internet facilities were poor with only one laptop computer compared with most other similarly rated hotels where there would be several computers. * Don't get mis-led by the pictures on the internet as the hotel is not what it seems compared to the pictures. * There was no room service which I would expect from a hotel with this star rating.
