Amazing views, great atmosphere. Great price for what you get. Only issue was air conditioning didn't work- it was comfortable if you left the windows open, but then there were mosquitoes. I liked the place enough to overlook this, I'd stay again for sure.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful hotel in the Tuscany hills"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Villa La Malva. The location in the Tuscany hills is unmatched. The hotel was clean, staff were very courteous, and they even had a pool which we really enjoyed in the warm weather. No complaints!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel in private setting"
Very small quaint family owned and operated hotel in a beautiful setting. They were very accomodating and helpful. The dinners were outstanding. It is out of the way and I highly recomend only if you have a car and GPS system. We will definitely stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Lovely little hotel"
Having had a tiring few days in Rome, this lovely little hotel was an oasis of tranquility, in a pretty village in the beautiful Tuscan countryside, not far from Florence. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful, providing maps and booking our entry to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, saving us hours of queuing. The room was finished to a […] very high quality and we had a lovely terrace overlooking the Arno valley. Breakfasts were delicious with plenty of choice but it hadn't been clear to us when we booked that they weren't included in the cost of the hotel. It would have been better if they had been as it would have been unlikely we'd have gone elsewhere for breakfast. We had dinner at the hotel on 3 nights. The food was great but limited and we could have done with some vegetables! Also, we had to pay for extras such as water and bread, but didn't realise this until we came to settle the final bill. This should have been made clear upfront. The hotel was well placed for exploring Tuscany, though one road back to the hotel was scary to say the least! All in all, we had a lovely stay at this charming hotel and would strongly recommend it if you're considering visiting this part of the world. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute hotel but very remote"
This hotel looks adorable from the outside but is very far away from everything so I do not recommend unless you have a car. Dinner was also very expensive and not worth it. Rooms were a little outdated and the air conditioning did not work. We informed staff of this and they told us they would come and check it out. We waited hours and they never did […] so we suffered through 2 very hot and stuffy sleepless nights. Do not recommend if you prefer a cooler, air conditioned room in the summer for sleeping. "Great view !"
This hotel was at part 2 of our honeymoon, it is located in a beautiful and secluded Italian town, the hotel is very nice, clean and pretty. The staff were very nice and helpful ! One little problem though, this hotel is very close to nature (which is great) and therefore in the mosquito season we couldn't use the pool. The breakfast is highly recommended […] - they serve one of the best cappuccinos we had in Italy. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Great hotel which feels deep in the Tuscan hills yet only a 20 minute drive from Florence. Very clean and great friendly staff. Would suggest you do need a car. Nice pool and terrace area. Driveway steep and gravel covered meaning lots of wheel spinning trying to get outGenuine Expedia guest review
"hotel la malva"
this small hotel is pleasant enough, ditto the owner, with lovely views of the Tuscan countryside, but falls down on three points:- 1. the heating is only turned on remotely by the owners at approx 7.30 pm and this is unsatisfactory on cold rainy April late afternoons, 2. much of the premises is an unfinished building site (the owners are creating 8 […] extra bedrooms plus swimming pool), and 3. the candle-lit dinners available on the two evenings we unwisely decided to dine in were served in a cold dining room and consisted of unappetising pasta & sauce, 'plastic' meat whether chicken or pork, straight out of the deep-freeze, which we were too hungry not to eat on our arrival & which we left mostly uneaten on the second occasion Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Lille dejligt hotel i lækre omgivelser"
"Excellent hotel with beautiful views"
11/15/13 Caroline H Sala, Sweden
I just stayed at the Hotel Villa La Malva, too short. A lovely villa with marvelous views. I had a very tasty dinner in the restaurant, completely decorated with stone walls and chestnut beams. I was served and exquisite pasta with local mushrooms, stewed boar and a bottle of their own house wine. The room was very clean and cozy, just as shown on the photos. In the morning, one can open the curtains and see the sun rise above the hills in front of the hotel. I had the beautiful swimming pool area just underneath my room. The area is equipped with sun chairs and decorated with palm trees. Fresh bread and croissant, among many other things, were served at breakfast. One can choose either to sit inside or outside on the panoramic terrace, enjoying the breathtaking view of the Arno valley. Very professional and welcoming staff. Will definitely be back as soon as I can.
"Villa La Malva: 'home' in Tuscany"
07/22/13 D-2000_2013 Belgium
If you want to visit the beautiful region of Tuscany by car and return 'home' every night, Villa La Malva is the right choice! The hotel owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast, which was elaborate enough for Italian norms, was fresh every morning. We very much liked the fact that it was served outside. We asked for early breakfast twice, which was no problem at all. Kristina prepared it almost an hour early for us, two days in a row. There is also the possibility to have dinner at the villa, we did so twice and we did not regret it! The prices for a three-course meal are very reasonable, and it is home-cooked. Furthermore, it is no problem to ask for seconds (or extras)! Our room was spatious and had a renovated bathroom. The room did get quite hot during the day, however, as the A/C only started working at 7 p.m. We had to leave it on all night, which was rather noisy. Moreover, we only had a bath (no shower) and it took a long time for the bath to fill up, as the water pressure was quite low. But we didn't let this bother us: we were able to cool off in the amazing pool, which was as clean as it was large, with a wonderful view of the hills. One other tiny point of criticism: it is difficult to park at the villa. But you can easily park in the village and walk five miunutes towards the hotel. Poggio alla Malva is a very small town, with only one little shop, owned by very friendly people. The hotel, then, has a quiet location. On our first night, a group of teenagers did disturb the peace, but fortunately they were gone afterwards. We agree with one of the previous reviews that this must have been an isolated incident. Considering the fact that Tuscany is an expensive region to stay, we were very happy with the value of the hotel, i.e. we got what we were looking for when we booked, a quiet and charming place to return to and relax after visiting the area. We would definitely recommend Villa La Malva, for its excellent location to visit the wonderful cities of Florence, Pisa, Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano and Vinci (don't be afraid to go there by car - all of the important cities have large car parks outside the city walls), and even more so for its wonderful owners! When we return Tuscany, we will defitely stay at Villa La Malva again!
"Quiet and charming hotel"
07/17/13 Dana B Brussels, Belgium
We stayed at Villa la Malva for a week in July. The owners of the hotel are VERY helpful and friendly. You feel right at home there. The rooms are spatious and clean, the bathroom is completely renovated. Breakfast is served outside, which is very nice. You can have dinner there every evening (if you like): the dinner is great. It's simple, but good and home-made food. The pool is absolutely amazing: it is very clean and really big (with an amazing view over the hills!). We had the pool to ourselves most of the time. The location of the hotel is good: you can visit all the important cities by car. Poggio alla Malva is a quiet town. There is a small grocery store near the church: they sell almost anything and you can taste (and buy) great cheese, ham and wine. I would strongly advise you to visit the store, you won’t regret it! If you want to visit Tuscany by car and rest in a charming hotel, go for Villa la Malva!
"Started a bit rocky, but Kristina made it worthwhile!"
07/12/13 Melissa S Troy, Missouri
We stayed at Villa La Malva for two nights. We arrived on a Monday and were pleasantly surprised when they let us check in early. Since most places in the area were closed on Monday, we made reservations for dinner at the hotel. They have a beautiful pool, which we enjoyed until it was invaded by teenagers who took it over and basically forced all the hotel customers out of the pool. We believed them to be guests at the hotel at first, but at dinner, we began to think differently. We ordered a bottle of wine and proceeded to eat our dinner when the raucous group of 18 teenagers in swimsuits and towels descended on the small dining room. There was no longer a nice leisurely dinner because no one could hear the person across the table from them speak. We were paying for this dinner, and it was made highly unpleasant by this group of teens we think were there for a birthday party thrown by perhaps the child or relative of someone from the hotel. We felt the planning was simply poor. They forsook the guests' comfort to cater to these people who were not paying guests (as far as we could tell). After they ate dinner, they took over the pool again until 10 p.m. After this first evening, I was prepared to write a terrible review of my stay, but the next morning, I met Kristina, who was not present the previous night. She catered to our every need at breakfast, went above and beyond to make a reservation for us at a winery, and did everything she could to make our stay pleasant. I should also mention that a young girl working reception the day we checked in was also extremely helpful and kind too. She printed train schedules for us and did everything she could to answer our questions. So while our first night was somewhat unpleasant, the kindness of Kristina and the other young lady made up for the loud and unenjoyable meal. The room was nice and the view was wonderful. I'm sure the teenage crowd is an isolated incident and the rest of our stay was pleasant.
"A very enjoyable holiday on the whole"
10/24/12 Jennie S Ystrad Mynach,Caerphilly, United Kingdom
Good size room, very clean, large balcony with stunning views. I would not recommend staying here without a car as it is quite rural and about 4 miles on narrow twisty roads from the nearest train station at Signa, Kristina and Gabrielle who run the hotel were very helpful. Kristina speaks excellent English and nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant served very acceptable food cooked by Kristina's mother-in-law. The swimming pool, a recent addition, looked very inviting. Would recommend using the train from Signa to visit Florence, Siena and Lucca. Downsides:the plumbing in our room was not ideal, it was impossible to have a shower as the water pressure was low and the bath took ages to run. The hot tap needed a new washer and dripped excessively, although a plumber was promised early on in our stay nothing happened. This is not really a hotel for small children, or anyone with mobility problems as there are flights of steps up to the breakfast room/bar and down to the restaurant, no lift.
"Some real positives but missing a few tricks"
08/29/12 DevonAnon Devon
The rooms in this hotel are really good, a large size, clean with nice furniture. We had a very enjoyable stay although this is further from Florence than we orginally thought because of the winding roads. Taxis overcharged when they were ordered by the hotel but we managed to get a better deal from Florence when the train was cancelled. The restaurant at the hotel served homecooked food which was nice but the restaurant was very hot and the wine was poor. There is a lovely pool at the hotel but be aware this is not included in the price of your room. The owners charge 10 Euros per person per day. The hotel is currently going through some work which will look really good. However I feel that they are missing out on a few easy things to do. For example drinks/dinner by the pool. Whe we asked for drinks to have in our room on the balcony they looked very surprised and ofetn there was no one at the bar to serve you. When we asked for a recommendation for another restaurant locally they refused to tell us. Views from the hotel were lovely and the balcony was a real bonus.
"Fantastic - don't think twice, just book it!"

We have just arrived back from a week long stay at the Villa La Malva - it was wonderful. The owners are so friendly and helpful, waiting up for us to arrive late on our first night and rustling up a delicious pasta dish with wine and dessert. I would say that it is not that hard to find, the village Poggio all Malva is signposted and the hotel easily spotted if you've seen the photos before arriving - the villa sits impressively down a hill over looking the valley. Our first time driving in Italy (and on the "right" side of the road) and we managed fine - the roads are steep and windy but follow the locals (toot your horn when approaching blind corners) and you'll be fine. The room was large with generous balcony (with table and chairs) over looking the hills and valley. Breakfast is served on the roof terrace and there is a delightful restaurant downstairs - our only regret is that we did't eat there more often. The pool is AMAZING and definitely worth the extra charge - even with Florence on our doorstep it was still so difficult to drag ourselves away from the pool and its view. You do need a car to stay at this hotel (and enjoy the breathtaking scenery a short drive further up the hill) but I would thoroughly recommend it as a base to drive to Florence, Lucca, Pisa etc... and don't be afraid to drive into these cities, despite what the guidebooks say. They all have buses/trams/trains to take into the centre of the city if you find spaces on the outskirts for 5-10 euros parking per day. We even found FREE parking in Lucca 10 mins walk from the entrance to the walled city. My only tip is install google translate on your phone (for the signs - that way you won't miss anything!) and read up on where you can/can't park (white bays are free in some places, for residents only in other places. Blue spaces are chargeable but void on road cleaning days.) Above all - this hotel was great, and a perfect memorable place for me and my boyfriend to stay during a romantic trip to Florence that ended with a proposal in Fiesole at sunset. Don't think twice, just book it! (but remember to book your car too!)

Kristina, you made our trip to Tuscany everything I hoped it would be - and more! La Malva is a clean, charming, friendly hotel.Yes, getting there is an "interesting" journey if you are not used to small, twisty roads but well worth the effort.(you do need a car) Our room was quiet, comfortable, well furnished and overlooked the valley with the rising sun to greet us from the balcony every morning. Breakfast was super(the kettle for my morning tea was always ready!) and there was always a friendly greeting. Everyone had a warm, helpful manner. Kristina had maps, train times and even booked tickets for us for a museum trip. We enjoyed 2 evening meals with great local wine in the hotel restaurant.I would love to return some day when the pool is completed and wish La Malva continued success.

It`s a lovely little place. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The owners are one of the nicest and most helpfull people you`ll meet. A bit remote, but never the less perfect spot for a romantic trip away from the city. If you`re crazy enough you can hire a bicycle for a day and go exploring the area. The only downfall was lack of restaurant. Though breakfast and coffee in the morning was excellent :o)
"Great Hidden Gem Near Florence"
07/21/09 BBFanIowa Iowa
My wife and I stayed 4 nights at the Villa La Malva, at the edge of the tiny village of Malva. The site is idyllic, the hotel new and cozy, and the owners delightful and helpful. Owners Gabriel and Kristine are making a name for themselves with this quiet, and quite cozy hotel. The rooms are comfortable, if a bit on the smaller side, the morning breakfasts a standard Italian cuisine of coffee, pastries, prosciutto and cheeses, and juice, and very fresh and tasty. The evening meal is served every other evening, prepared by Gabriel's mother and his sister, both fine chefs. We gorged ourselves on the succulent pasta and DOC-quality, local Carmignano red wine (the best we tasted this trip to Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre, and Sorrento.) The restaurant is not large, but is quiet, romantic, quite delightful, and the other guests were a treat to meet and talk with. Kristine went out of her way to help us find our way around, although needing to charge us 12 Euros for taking us to and from the local train station in Signe, a 2.4 mile trip. Better that than the local taxi who charged us 20 Euros each trip! Not an easy walk or we would have done it more. This was the only downpoint for our stay, as our original 3 nights stretched to 4 as we enjoyed our time at the hotel. Nearby Florence was a 12-15 minute train ride from little Signe. Best gelato we tasted this trip (our second to Italy) was at the store by the train station in Signe, and the Cherry was out of this world, fresh cherries! We give two thumbs up to Villa La Malva and the owners Gabriel and Kristine! Thank you for a memorable hotel stay! We would recommend this hotel to any who want great service, cozy rooms, beautiful surroundings, and wonderful food and wine.
