Staybridge Suites Durham/Chapel Hill - Durham

This hotel was close to Duke Medical Center and was a good choice for our extended stay. We had a few problems with our room but everything was quickly resolved, staff was very attentive.

We stayed at this hotel for Duke parents weekend. The hotel has great on-site amenities including breakfast, evening receptions, kitchen in room, large rooms, laundry room, and fitness center. The hotel was about a 10 minute drive to the Duke campus. The hotel was located in a suburban area surrounded by chain stores and restaurants.

In my many years of using Expedia, I've never before been disappointed in a hotel: I've always gotten what I asked for. Not in this case. While the staff were reasonably polite and we did end up staying at the hotel there were a number of problems. First, we had asked for two beds and the failure of this hotel to accommodate that request was blamed […] on Expedia. Essentially, we were told that we could either take it or leave it and, since it was a Football weekend and Parent's weekend at UNC-CH we had to take it. Then, when we got to the room it smelled of tobacco smoke, which the front desk could not do anything about. It was late at night, no where else to go, and pouring down rain. We made the best of it. To top it off, the wifi did not work well and when I complained about that was told that it always worked before. In short: I will (I hope) never have to stay at a Staybridge hotel again. I was most disappointed in this because I've been so satisfied to date with Expedia bookings. I do, however, want to point out that basic amenities (hot water, towels, and so on) were provided. Overall, excellent. Hotel was located close to wedding events in Durham and Chapel Hill. Morning breakfasts were very good. Parking was handy. Did not use pool or workout room. Room configuration was exactly what I wanted: sleep sofa in main room and two double beds in separate bedroom.

Overall, we had a great experience at this hotel. I was traveling with my fiancee on business, and we couldn't have been happier with our hotel choice. We had a studio room with queen bed, which provided plenty of space. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. We had free Wi-Fi in the room which worked well. Instead of the typical doughnuts and juice, this hotel had hot eggs and bacon/sausage, plus a waffle maker, as well as fruit, cereal, juices, oatmeal, muffins, etc. All in all, a good way to start the morning. The laundry facilities were also free (although you have to pay for detergent, which is expected#. The location is great. It is about 10 minutes from UNC-Chapel Hill, and 10 minutes from Duke. There are plenty of stores nearby #Walmart, Kohl's, Kroger, restaurants, etc). The pool was clean, as was the workout facility. Overall our stay was good, however, the pool is advertised as open. Yes, it was open, but it was filthy. I arrived with my three kids expecting to swim and we would not put a foot in the pool it was so disgusting! Everything else in the hotel was great - breakfast was excellent.
