The stay was wonderful, the staff not helpful at all - no maid service. Minor in comparison to how (Purposeful) and difficult they made it to get an extra hour at check out - UNACCEPTABLE!! There check out time is listed as "Before 10:00 am." First - never have I stayed in a property that did not give you until 11:00am? Second, I asked when booking […] for an 11:00am check out as we did not have any place to wait for our lift to the Airport which was picking us up at 11:30. I was told you have to request the late check out when you arrive. I did that and was then told you must request the late check out the night before - did that also and was told "No you have to make that request the morning of you departure. REALLY - Needless to say - our request went unanswered, we were shipped to the curb to wait out our airport transportation. BAD BAD BAD !!! We quite enjoyed our stay at Riviera Shores. The rooms appear to be part of a time-share style resort, with small well-appointed kitchenettes, a full-BBQ on the small balcony, a flat-panel tv in the bedroom, a tube-style TV in the main room, comfortable bedroom bed and a nice pull-out sofabed on which to sleep and hear the surf. We stayed the weekend […] after Valentine's Day, so there was not a lot of traffic. There was a full-sized pool and two jacuzzis with slightly different temperatures. We made use of the cooking facilities, and were able to shop at an Albertson's that's about 1.5 miles to the west then north. There are some restaurants a long-walk away in Dana Point, probably better to drive. We brought bicycles, and biked along the road to the shore path and bridge leading to San Clemente Pier. The resort was not big on personalized service, but it was friendly enough when encountered. To get to the beach requires going to a pedestrian footbridge or drivin a short distance to an entrance to the parking lot, because the train tracks run along the road right in front of the resort. We enjoyed the train going by occasionally, but some might find it a bit noisy. We would recommend this location to family and friends. Read more

Took my family of 4 there for a 3-night stay over Thanksgiving. Had an ocean-view room. The kitchenette was great - we were able to save money prepping most of our own meals. Long walk to pool at other end of hotel, but pools and spas and pool areas were in good condition. Review warned about noisy trains, but this wasn't a problem -- trains passed […] by frequently, but with the doors closed at night the train noise was not intrusive at all. The overpass to the beach was convenient (though it was not easy taking a stroller up and down all those stairs!). Right at the bottom of the stairs the beach was a little rocky, but walk about 1/4 mile north and the beach condition was great. And the hotel price was very reasonable. Really great experience. They had everything we needed to cook, we even did some laundry. It felt like home. We didn't have time to enjoy all the facility but we really want to go back and use those pools, game rooms etc. This place really exceeded my expectations!

The location is fantastic. It is across the street from the ocean. If you are on the 4th floor as we were, you can walk out onto the sun deck and enjoy an ocean view at anytime. There is plenty of underground parking. The office is not clearly marked on the outside of the building. Look for the copper roof when you arrive. The pools and hot tubs are […] outdoors and are easily accessable. There are pool tables and ping available in the game family areas. Checking out the paddles and pool balls is easy. They also provide towels for the beach or pool. The rooms do not have daily maid service. They come about once a week to change linens and vaccuum. The rooms were very quiet and comfortable. There is a gas grill on the deck of the room which was great for cooking steaks or burgers. The kitchens come equipped with all of the basic necessities to cook a meal. We stayed in a location with two rooms. One for the kids with a bath and one for us with a bath. The only real knock was that the kids bedroom did not have a TV. The master bedroom had one and there was one in the main living area. Other than that, this is a great place to stay for families or a getaway. Everything is great, the hotel is clean, and quiet, the only thing that made me to rate them over all 4 is because when we checked in at around 11 a.m. the front desk guy told me that once the room is ready they will call us, given 2 sets of nos...up to 4 p.m. nobody called, more than that, everything is ok.

When we opened the door to our room, we loved the separate bedroom and how cozy it was. We loved the bbq grill and spacious balcony. I only stayed one night for a business trip and usually stay in regular Hotel rooms. I really liked the location and the extra space as compared to a small regular hotel room, especially the balcony with ocean view. Pros: Rooms are large and clean. Balcony facing ocean offers very nice view. Pool large and clean. Staff was very friendly. Very easy to get to the beach via overpass. Nice to have kitchen for longer stays. Cons: Noise from highway, train, and ocean. This is not problem if you keep windows closed.
