Rydges was a nice hotel with all the amenities you could want. The lobby was beautiful and the Portlander restaurant was very good. It was within walking distance to everything at the edge of the middle of town. The valet and wifi were expensive as is customary for this class of hotel. The brunch was also pricey but it was delicious! And I'm sure it […] was a fluke but our room was only half made up one day, and the mirrors and glass could use a bit more cleaning. The new appearance of this modern hotel, and friendly staff on check in gave us no clue that the room would be hot and stuffy when we arrived, with a noisy air conditioner and lots of road noise from outside (even on the 6th floor). This made the overall experience seem a bit pretentious.

The hotel is very nice, especially if you get a room with a harbor view. The Portlander (their restaurant) had good meals for a reasonable price, and the bar is fully stocked. The location is near the west end of the Queen's Wharf, and is in easy walking distance to most attractions in Wellington (even Te Papa was only about a 15 minute walk; on the […] map this looks like a tremendous distance away but it turned out not to be). The rooms are modern in design, and the Executive suite I stayed in was a little on the small side, but comfortable, clean, and had a fantastic view. All you need to know about this hotel is that the mirrors in the bathroom are heated. So there's no steam on the part you'd need! The downside is that the room had a weird set up where you end up watching your partner sit on the toilet if your not paying attention...

We were pleased with the hotel room as it was spacious and very 'upscale' for our expectations. As Rydges recently took over from the former owner, we felt indulged. We were disappointed with the restaurant service as we waited over 45 minutes for our meal and there was only one other customer in the place. No apologies or excuses were made. Rude reception staff. Valet parking very expensive and cannot park outside of the hotel, have to wait for cars/taxis to move. Room had not been cleaned, just made up. The location is OK.

Spacious, comfortable room at a reasonable city price. However we found the hotel soulless and impersonal. The reception staff we encountered were condescending and dismissive, unlike our experience of the friendly welcome we received elsewhere during our travels in New Zealand.

The hotel met my needs and expectations. The staff were very helpful and the location suited my plan to travel by train to Welllington and ferry to South Island, since a ferry shuttle departs from the rail station. Note, I did not eat at the hotel. I stayed 3 nights.

A good standard hotel in the centre of Wellington. The air conditioned room was comfortable and clean. The Concierge gave us helpful advice on where to eat and park the car. The quayside restaurants are just accross the road and the cable car station is a short walk away. A very enjoyable stay.

Located very close to railway station made this an ideal choice for us. It is also close to the Parliament and Beehive buildings, as well as the Cathderal. Comfortable and spacious room, and well eqipped.

Lovely staff. Spacious room, with good facilities both in room and in leisure centre. My only real complaint is about the air conditioning - as the room heated up during the day, and there were no windows that opened, the AC did not work hard enough to keep the room cool. It was extremely hot at night! Also, the hotel was on the opposite side of town […] to Cuba Street, Te Papa and Courtney Place. It encouraged us to walk a lot, but had it been raining, the location would not have been so ideal! However, easy bussing distances. The gym is quite a walk away, according to my partner, it was a bit of an inconvenience. Read more

This is acceptable accommodation without any surprises. Simple things need to be mainitained eg airconditioning controls not working (battery). Standard room. standard service minimalist in approach. The breakfast was well appointed, (but beware hidden charge of coffee), with a great range of foodss and beverages.

We found the hotel was more of a business kind of hotel. It was definitely close to the railway station. We have walked everywhere but it rained all the time. We had difficulty getting WiFi there. View from the 14th floorwas into an office building. We almost missed our train to Auckland because the. Hotel missed giving us our wake up call.

Disappointed we didn't get a harbour view room . Children were often in the pool. We had 3 people in our room and the room was set up for 2, that is, we had to ask for more towels, mugs , plates. Open milk container in fridge on our arrival. Had to ask for dish cloth and tea towels. Service to our room was good in bringing items we requested

The location was perfect as it was really central and we were able to walk everywhere. Being just a few minutes walk from Lambton Quay where the Airport bus runs frequently was really useful too. The beds were incredibly comfortable and all the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Major issue was the playing of very loud music in the foyer and restaurant area. If diners want a concert experience they should take an iPod. The rest of us should not have an appalling racket inflicted upon us.

Hotel was great, staff and service good. Enjoyed the pool and spa, Was close to what we needed to make our trip enjoyable. Travelled with my 85yr old mum and my 3yr old grandaughter , all our needs were met. Would stay there again and reccomend it to others.
