Absolutely beautiful private little resort, beach area is clean, quiet and not crowded, with a small reef in front for snorkeling and white sand beach for swimming. Its far from Playa's main drag of Avenida Quinta but a taxi ride of US$20 will do each way.

We really loved the beach access and you can't beat the price for that or at least there aren't many resorts that aren't huge and on the beach. My husband and I just spent a wonderful 6 days at Petite Lafitte and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, affordable, and quiet retreat in Playa Del Carmen. The staff are very professional, courteous, and are always willing to go the extra mile to accommodate in any way necessary. One of the best things about this hotel is that they don't "nickle and dime" you like other places. Bottled water is complimentary and unlimited and the drinks range from $3-5. For 6 days, our bar and lunch tab was less than $100. The beach is a little rocky in front of the hotel, but if you walk a little to the left, it becomes much nicer. We stayed in a bungalow and loved it. It felt like we were on our own private resort and the beach was just steps away. They have plenty of beach chairs and covered umbrellas and even hammocks to relax on. Don't miss out on the animal reserve at the back of the hotel. They have all kinds of species of rare birds and deer that have all been rescued. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely like to return. I don't like the big 900 room hotels. Petit lafitte is perfect. Small yet all up to date. The staff are wonderful and very helpful with requests. I loved the little zoo they have right there on the property. I would recommend this hotel to couples and couples with children as well. I took my 15 year old son and he didn't want to leave. Also, the dinner entrees are not that kid-friendly, but the chef will make a cheese quesadilla or other substitutions if you make your request by 1pm. The staff was friendly at check-in, asking us if we had stayed there before - we hadn't - and showed us around the property. Our room was available before the check-in time, as we had arrived earlier. There was a bathroom near the front desk for us to change our clothes before our room was ready. There was little customer service. I asked the front […] desk to confirm a snorkeling excursion I had booked and they said it would cost me 8 pesos to make the call. I was aghast. There were no provisions as far as sunblock, snacks or other misc. items for sale. Staff did not go out of their way to ask if you needed help with booking anything, or making suggestions about what to do, etc. The swimming part of the beach was a small area, as there were large areas of coral in front of the hotel. The pool was very clean. The drinks - alcoholic and non - were very affordable at less than $5 for a mixed drink and less than $3 for a beer. The lunch offered at the bar was very good and also affordable. The hotel includes breakfast and dinner with your reservation, and that was adequate. There wasn't a lot of variety. Dinner came with the choice of two entrees. After all the glowing reviews on expedia and travel advisor, I was expecting a lot more from this hotel, so I was disappointed. Read more

Definitely a hidden gem. Service is top notch, the bungalows are terrific...clean, new bathrooms, and stand alone. The beds were a little firm however. There are two rows of bungalows beginning near the ocean then filing back. Number one is tooooo close to the bathroom and bar, number 9 is the front one on the other row and is PERFECT. As you go further […] down...2,3,4, etc you get further from the beach. 10, 11, 12, etc will do the same. If you can afford a bungalow...DO IT! The Petite is tiny...only 38 rooms total. The other rooms than the bungalows are neatly arranged in buildings 3 high right off the pool, restaurant and bar . It is a long narrow lot facing the ocean...they've done a great job with what they have. The service was top notch. A manager coming around every day to check on everything...the meals and your accommodations. If something wasn't perfect, they would do their best to make it that way. Noise was a little issue for us...a couple was up late at night talking...just talking, but loudly. We had to sleep with our windows closed which wasn't what we came to the ocean for. We were also pretty impressed with the included breakfasts and dinners; breakfast always consisted of a buffet of fruits, granola (SO good), and yogurt, and they offered about 12 different Mayan/Mexican dishes to choose from, the omelettes were spectacular! Dinner was the same with a small buffet of salad and pasta, and only 2 main dishes to choose from. Although the dishes were always meat-centric (I'm a vegetarian), I could still get full on just the small buffet alone. Take advantage of relaxing in the beach hammocks with a drink or laying in the chairs with a good book! If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the all inclusives and sit back on a quiet beach, lay on a hammock, drink a delicious strong margarita or sangria then this is your place.. No whistles and bells, but beautiful beach, great food, friendly staff, no wristbands.....you feel like you are at a beach camp where everyone knows your name. We went into playa del carmen one night for dinner and shopping and it was about 15 minutes one way, and a taxi about $14 each way. We felt very safe even at night in playa. We actually got a bit lost walking the streets and a very friendly police officer who spoke English was extremely helpful. Note: They have a bird refugee on site and they REALLY need anything you can supply such as bird toys for stimulation, seed, gravel paper, food and water cups, anything you would put in a birdcage back home. The birds are absolutely beautiful but you will wish that you brought something to make their life a little sweeter. They simply don't have the resources and funds that we have to help. We did go into PDC on the Saturday before Halloween and many of the local children were dressed up. We bought some candy and gave out treats. We then went to the Fusion where they had a costume contest. The costumes were unbelievable. Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean won. Then at midnight was the fire show. If we take another trip to Mexico, we definitely will come back to Petit Lafitte. We felt safe the entire trip and for the price it’s hard to beat.
