Moevenpick Resort and Spa Dead Sea - Swaimeh

This is an absolutely gorgeous hotel but the facilities were all that the Movenpick had going for it in our eyes. We started by waiting for parking, check in and our room. Then we were given a waiting card so we could enjoy the facilities which we appreciated. The next wait was our which was not complete based on the menu description, and how it was […] 'fixed' felt like a brush off. Dinner saw the wrong entree being placed in front of me, strange fried spaghetti garnishes and poorly done (though hot and tasty) risotto. One of the waiters was quite kind though, even joking with us without being disruptive to our dinner. There were a couple of noise disturbances in the night but the beds and linens were very comfy. (it was a holiday weekend and the place was packed.) Breakfast was fine and check out was easy. The night manager even offered to lead us to the airport when he left. Because "average" is three stars and this hotel was not average (especially for a five star) I must rate it at a two/poor. There are great things and some disappointments. Not trying to tank the ratings, but the verdict is that next time we'll save a bit of money and stay at a resort down the road. Read more

I travelled Jordan from North to South, from Amman to Petra to Wadi Rum and decided to go float at the Dead Sea on my last day. I have been staying in hostels and budget hotels the whole time. Since the Dead Sea will be my last night before I leave Jordan, I decided splurge and stayed at Movenpick. I was very disappointed. I asked for a nonsmoking room, […] they put me in Z205, that floor is supposed to be a nonsmoking floor, but in this room, there is another door that separates my room from the next door room, apparently the occupants on the other room were smoking, I can smell it and I can even hear their conversations. This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel? There was also a long line at check in and check out. I felt that I was more spoiled at the budget hotels where I stayed, I experienced more personal service, and was given more attention to. But at Movenpick, it was like a madhouse, no personal service, you have to pay for the internet which I did not have to on my stay at the budget hotels. Bottom line, it is not worth the splurge, I would stick to budget hotels where I had more positive experience. Read more

The resort sprawls a great distance from the water. There are stairs and ramps going for a good distance down to the pools, and then even farther down to the water/beach. On the weekends it's completely packed with people with no place to really lie down and finding a free sunbed is challenging. Avoiding the weekend makes for a much more relaxing visit […] unless you enjoy crowds. The gym is okay, the service is terrible (slow to check in/out, not cleaning your room, etc.), and the food mediocre (there is nowhere else to go, so you're captive at the resort). The pools are nice, the beach is well maintained, and the ramps into the Dead Sea are a bit slippery and there are sharp rocks right as you enter the water so you see plenty of people hurting themselves as they go in if you sit there watching for a bit. When we arrived we were assigned a grotty room, with worn out furniture, dirty and stained cushions, definItely not a nice view - which, together with a clean room, was our special request to the hotel); therefore, we requested another room. We were told a better room, with a nicer view, was ONLY available at an additional price. A housekeeper came with a bunch of clean (?) sheets, which I meticously went through, in order to find the ones that were less stained! Rooms were cave-like and damp and ac did not seem to do much (if chocolate still melts with a/c on in full, it might be a sign it is still too hot), bathroom floor not clean, spa cost extra (even when booking a massage there!), food cost more than posted (26D on board and 36D in reality), internet cost extra BUT did not even work 90% of the time, staff […] was questionable (e.g. telling me I had 'access to the hot tub' like that was a good thing with 46C outside temperature and even hotter water in the tub!), gift shop was never open (although opening hours said 8:30 to 9pm it was NEVER open the whole Friday I was there), bring water and anything you might need (nowhere to even buy some water or gum or sunscreen unless you want to pay $30 for a tiny bottle in the hotel down the road where they drive you..which btw also has no water bottles)., mini bar was supposed to be 'free' but not filled up so bring lots of water...all in all disappointing and a rip off. The hotel is lovely situated but for sure not a five star hotel. Facilities are worn out. The Deluxe room simply cold due to the tiles on the floor, which might be a blessing during summer. Hotel in principle noisy. No value for money. The quality of food in the restaurant was poor and overpriced.

The hotel is architecturally very interesting. The rooms in the "village" are spacious and the beds very comfortable. The spa was superb. However, there were a number of small irritations that were not appropriate for a hotel that brands itself as high end. On two occasions when I ordered from the short menu offered in the bar area of the main building, the selection was not available. The balcony needed to be swept and the cushions brushed off. While the gym was available to the guests free of charge, I had to pay JD20 (about US$28) if I wanted a locker (the cost of access to the spa). Being an upscale resort in a third world country has it's challenges. Movenpick has done a wonderful job of giving quality in a difficult environment. The grounds, pools, restaurants are beautiful. Probably the best hotel in the dead sea resort area, that is reflected in the price but is definitely not that expensive for a hotel of this standard. Spa/swimming pool is very nice and it is on the shore of the dead sea so no problems taking a dip. The biggest problem of this hotel - food quality. Breakfast was poor, even Holiday Inn Dead Sea has a much better choice and presentation. Pizza in italian restaurant was not-eatable at all. Portion of Martini - 40 ml for 7 EUR!!! Bottle of the cheapest and just average Pino Grigio - 52 EUR (you'll find the same for 2 EUR in your supermarket at home, […] ha-ha-ha). Waiters - absolutely nonprofessional, they know only two types of wine - white and red. Service was unacceptable for Movenpick chain. We've stayed at other dead sea resorts before, mostly on the Israeli site, but this resort is by far the best experience we had. My 3 kids loved the place,the staff and everything the hotel had to offer. The staff made us feel at home far away from home. It can cost you, but it is highly recommended.

Large complex needs some walking , but facilities are great . Layout of pools,etc is nice . Heated pool great for kids - jacuzzis for the parents. We stayed here at Movenpick at the beginning of our trip and then stayed at the neighboring Dead Sea Resort at the end of our trip. The Movenpick had very nice beach front and swimming pools. So basically the areas open to guest were nice but the actual room wasn't very good. The A/C didn't work and the power went out totally in the night. We had to […] call maintenance in the night to get the fan working again. It was strange as it was only our room that lost power. Also some of the rooms are close to a road so that isn't nice either. We had a wonderful and relaxing time at the Moevenpick. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The rooms were airy and restful. The pool areas are gorgeous and the towels are plentiful. This hotel was fantastic, especially as it has been there for a while you could tell, as the vegetation was built up and it was very green. This is unlike the other newer hotels such as Holiday Inn, which don't have as much green vegetation growing around them and still look like a building site. +ve: Rooms: comfy beds, good AC, free minibar ..... Excellent Breakfast and nice swimming pools -ve: two of my guests had to pay a 75$++ each a miniumim charge on hotel entrance to catch up with me, didn't see this in any 5 stars hotel ever before!!! Retaurants service is not so good ( dinner time) even though food was excellent.
