Hotel Realm - Barton

Nicely designed new building, convenient to New Parliament, National Gallery and other important structures. Canberra isn't much of a walking city, but if you want to visit these plaes on foot, this is the place to stay. Excellent rooms.

It was ok although for the price paid was disappointing. The lifts were very slow, there was no one to show me to my room when I arrived (and on the Executive floor it's like a maze) and the safe battery was flat on arrival. I can't fault the quality of the room, bed , coffee machine (Nespresso), toiletries etc....all lovely and as advertised HOWEVER was not impressed to come back home after a day out and about to find that our room had NOT been serviced - and YES we did put the "please service my room ' light on before we left. I stayed at a standard room which was average in size, but had a very nice and comfortable king bed. Bathroom is clean and modern but smallish. Small details were however lacking, such as lack of small items in the room. Breakfast was very nice, you can order food as well as the full buffet menu. Overall very good, but not perfect.

This hotel is quite new and is in very good condition. We had a 1 bedroom suite which is large and had a lot of facilities including washing machine and large fridge. However there is no stove so cooking is not possible. The location is near Parliament house and is a bit away from shops and restaurants so unless you know your way around Canberra might […] not be convenient. The service is pretty bad. Housekeeping forgot to make up our room on the first day despite having the "Please make up room" light on for most of the day and they came pretty late the second day too despite having it on the whole day. There is a lot of high tech stuff in the room but we couldn't get most of it to work. The door key stopped working after 1 day and we could not get the Apple TV to play music despite getting the tech guys in twice. We had to ring the front desk every time we wanted to know something because they don't provide much basic info to you (eg check out time, how to use room facilities etc). The hotel was very quiet. While the surrounding area is rather sterile, the hotel is spacious and the rooms elegantly furnished with much amenity. I was traveling with my three children and we had an interconnecting suite which surpassed all expectation. Excellent bathrooms with all needs catered for. My only criticism is the pool/spa area which must be accessed through a car […] park. Given how much surrounding space is available the pool should be larger and with a view. The hotel was nice, but a little far from the night life of Canberra (what night life you say???). Thank goodness the lounge / bar of this hotel was a happening meeting place for the professionals of Canberra. The staff in the lounge were great.

Air conditioning worked great all day, however, at night it would automatically go to 25 degrees and be a bit stuffy when I woke up each morning. Staff, restaurant, lounge were all excellent. Nice hotel. Will definitely stay again in future.

I stayed in a one bedroom suite, which was spacious & well appointed. Breakfast in the down stairs restaurant was okay if a little disorganized. My only criticism would be the work desk is right next to the entry doorway & the lounges are not that comfortable.

Shower consistently turning to boiling hot irrespective of tap position, temperature control that swung from one extreme to another (room very hot or very cold) and poor television system spoilt the work of very pleasant and attentive staff in an otherwise impressive hotel. Fix those (pretty important) areas and the hotel would be superb.

The front staff and the staff in dining room were extremely helpful. Room service and housekeeping were fast and efficient. Front of house staff were excellent and the rooms were stylish and and spacious. We were fortunate enough to have an external facing room from which we could see the back of Parliament House. The coffee maker was a real bonus.

We stayed at Realm Hotel New Year's Eve 2011, I felt the hotel was on holiday, the pool was out of order for the two days we stayed there, had to ask for our room to be cleaned. The restaurant was great though, they need to maintain the hotel a little better. Overall a good experience

The quality of the hotel was great, as it's pretty new, so has all the modern facilities you'd expect like a Nespresso coffee machine and a lovely big bath, as well as an indoor pool and gym, and a nice restaurant and bar. Also, my room was not cleaned on the second day, despite leaving my room from 11.30am - 4pm and leaving the 'please clean up my room' light on. I also had to call up for coffee pod refills as they were not automatically replenished by housekeeping.
