The room was a somewhat small but very clean. The hotel staff had a limited knowledge of English and could use some customer service training. The location was not very convenient, with no restaurants or coffee shops in the neighborhood and it was several blocks to the subway. I did not regret booking the hotel.

Someone less familiar with China might be uncomfortable with its location in a busy residential neighborhood, but we loved it. Close to local restaurants and street food, 1-2 minute walk from the fabric market, and about a 6 minute walk to the Nanpu Bridge metro station. This hotel was advertised as a 4 star hotel, but let me tell you, it wasn't. Now that the record has been set straight, let's see what the hotel is really like. Rayfont was cheap, the people were nice (they were honest and helpful, but didn't speak English), and there room was reasonably clean (hey, it's not the Four Seasons). Now, if you want space, […] let me tell you, this place has space — just not much of it. I have never been in a more cramped room (though some of the large suites looked roomy as I peered in while waiting for the elevator). Yes, technically speaking the advertisements were correct (the room featured a mini bar, double bead, and desk), but I could not even sit at the desk because the bed was too close to allow the chair to come out. Also, I've slept on rocks softer than the mattress (through I'm assured by my local colleagues that hard beds are just a Chinese thing). Anyway, this place was not the cleanest, biggest, etc., but I still liked it, and would go back. It was affordable, and the people were good, and they cleaned it every day. Also, it was convenient. There are two subway stations nearby that are only minutes away from the major Shanghai stops, and there are a ton of street food vendors outside of the gates of the hotel. Noodles, pot stickers, kebabs, chili tofu, etc. — all right outside the door. Oh, as far as the gym/pool goes, they're there, but crowded. It's a public gym that hotel guests have access to. this is a good hotel for the price ,convenint to many stores and shop ,subway is about a 10 min. walk but it is just as easy to take a cab. the hotel personel were very helpful when we needed a cab and helping us with directions. I would reccomend this hotel and I would stay here again

During my entire two-week stay in China and many hotels, this was the top one. First of all, I was placed on the 16th floor with awesome views of the city and nearby Nanpu bridge. Some other reviewers have remarked that this hotel was difficult to find. That could be because the map for this hotel is WRONG! We found the exact location pointed to on the map, only to realize there was no hotel in sight. The actual location is about a mile southeast of what is shown on the map. I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The rooms are quite small but I've been in smaller rooms. The room was clean and the hard bed actually helped me with my back problems. This hotel is actually a converted apartment building. Anyone who's been the the ChongQing mansions in Hong Kong will be familiar with miniscule, postage-stamp sized hotel rooms. The price was right, and the quality of the service and the amenities was great, it was clean, there was even a laundry machine available for use - which was appreciated because the cost of having a hotel do your laundry is ridiculous if you have any amount of laundry to do. Like I said, it was nice, but when my knees didn't fit in the bathroom, which was about a foot away from the bed, it made it a bit uncomfortable for a vacation stay. Maybe for a business stay if I was by myself, but having both my wife and myself made it quite cramped. I liked the location because it was walking distance to the city and a subway stop which can take you anywhere, and just around the corner is a lower-rent area where you can get authentic Chinese food right off the street - although some people might shy away from such treats if you aren't used to them. Don't be afriad, but do be careful what you eat! Depending on your reason of stay , it is advisable. The neighborhood to access the Metro is not so pleasant but still OK . Be careful with the bargain places next to the hotel, they will try to con you . If they speak good English beware something might be wrong.

The Rayfont Shanghai Nanpu Hotel is by no means a 4 star hotel and is at best 2 stars. The room was 50% smaller than any hotel room we have ever been in; we had no place for our luggage.
