Really comfortable stay. Was here as attending a wedding and the room was perfect for this. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the cleaners did a great job keeping our room clean and tidy after we left it in a hurry to get to the wedding.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Stay was good.Breakfast all you needed. Not enough staff so we had the bar tender as the waitress. Drinks at the bar let The Holiday Inn down, one single gin with small tonic and a rose wine with soda £13-45 is rather bad.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not the best experience"
It wasn't very comforting. Not very friendly staff. Room was cold. I informed the reception about the room temperature but still wasn't fixed. Won't go back there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean and comfy"
I was only there for the night and found the hotel clean and comfortable. We decided to have a full English breakfast, and we were rather disappointed with it. We felt we were being rushed even though there was only one other couple in the restaurant and when the breakfast was served, the bacon was dried up and hard.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"It's OK for one night"
Having stay in Holiday Inns abroad I thought this would be a nice way to break up my working week. Although the room was big it stunk of stale cigarette smoke. And as I had taken the last room there was no way to change rooms, more ver all the hotel is a bit dated. But the evening staff were very helpful. Breakfast was ok. But I do not think I will stay […] in another Holiday In. Over here Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

very comfortable beds. Fast room service.Friendly staff.Affordable rates .very good food.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The first time we've used this hotel as we visit Reading frequently. Whilst being a little 'out of the way' down the Bath Rd it was all we needed. The room was amazingly quiet considering it's next to a main road and the room whilst a little faded in places was clean and very comfy. The staff seem happy and friendly and breakfast was excellent. All […] in all very good and we will be back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very good experience and satisfied with place, premises and cuisineGenuine Expedia guest review

Had a lovely 3 night stay for the rewind festival. The hotel would benefit by more guests if they offered a shuttle service to events like the rewind festival and Henley etc.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Holiday Inn Reading West Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review, I'm delighted you had such a lovely stay. I will certainly look into shuttle services but I would think the cost of this to places like Henley, which is approx. 16 miles away, would be prohibitive unless there were a large group all travelling. We can of course assist with taxi bookings and help with public transport links and times. Kind regards
"confortable but restaurant not good"
Friendly staff at reception but food at the restaurant was not great. Order tuna stake which was like rubber and had to send back. Also they ran out of the house red and the bottle red we had ordered but then they suddenly a bottle.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Holiday Inn Reading West Thank you for your feedback, I'm vvery sorry you were not happy with your dining experience. All meals are cooked fresh to order so I'm not qite sure why there should have been a problem with the tuna but thank you for letting me , I will investigate with the chef. Kind regards
A nice little hotel, conveniently situated. V comfortable rooms although the air con was a little noisy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

I stay here quite a lot, always lovely front of house staff, menu needs updating and cider flat, but overall a nicer Holiday Inn made more enjoyable by the staff!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Holiday Inn Reading West Thank you for your review. I'm sure you will be delighted to know that new menus 'went live' at the beginning of July, in addition to our local weekly changing Chef's Menu. Thank you for your comments about the cider, we will investigate this further. Kind regards
The Cleanliness of the room and hotel were satisfactory, the staff were really nice and helpful. The hotel is in the middle of no where so a car is essential. My only gripe is the WI FI costs £5 for one hour which I find totally un exceptable. Apart from that a very nice stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Holiday Inn Reading West Thank you for your feedback, I pleased you found the team so helpful. We are on the A4 Bath Road, half way between Reading and Newbury town centres and only 3 miles from M4 junction 12. Whilst having a car is an advantage there is a bus stop right outside the hotel going to both Reading and Newbury and you can get a train into Reading and on to Paddington from Aldermaston - just a ten minute walk from the hotel. You'll be pleased to know that internet access is now free to all IHG Elite Members at Holiday Inn. Kind regards
Straight-forward hotel. Very quiet in rooms despite being next to main road. Six Bells pub in Beenham did great food (5min drive).Genuine Hotels.com guest review

I was only staying for one night but I was allocated a suite which was fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised by the overall condition of the hotel which was better than some 4 star hotels I have stayed in previously. The location was good, getting to Newbury quite quickly the next day. Would definitely stay again, hoping for the suite again next time […] ! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very impressed overall with the general standards at this hotel. Although on a main road, we weren't disturbed by traffic noise due to good soundproofing of the windows. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and comfortable. Lots to choose from for breakfast however the cooked full English wasn't the best but acceptable. Would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Everything OK but Internet Access: MASSIVE letdown"
Everything was as expected except for Wi-Fi access. To charge £4.95 per hour and not have free wi-fi access in public areas is just a massive letdown.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Limited wireless service"
01/28/15 apdtraveler Pittsburgh
The hotel rooms are fairly spacious and are clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. But the amenities are few and sparse. There is a fitness room available but the single treadmill has been broke for over a month. The wireless service is the biggest disappointment as a business traveler depending on it. It is slow and spotty. You cannot download video, barely even you tube. It struggles at times to open email and Facebook. And the password system is clunky and time consuming to use. Devices never remember the connection as the password is always required each time you return during the day, and you have to enter more data to access it than anywhere else I've used. Also the cell phone connections are very poor, depending in what part of the hotel you are in, you may not even get cell service. Also there is nothing around the hotel.
"New Years eve"

Took a coach tour on New Years eve to this hotel, it was fantastic, very nice clean room, dinning room was decorated for the occasion, dinner was very nice, and breakfast next day was amazing, all sorts of breakfast food
"Friendly hotel staff but slightly "tired" rooms"
01/06/15 Peter_Beverley2014 United Kingdom
Only been here 2 nights so far so early days. Rooms are not luxurious but adequate. Wireless is not very reliable and rates are slightly higher than one might expect (even using my corporate discount code).

"not a happy new year"
01/01/15 Colin m Reading, United Kingdom
We have celebrated new year with friends for the past 30 years and always have a great time not this year thanks to the bad organisation of the whole evening. Ran out of the wine that we were drinking the meal was like being back at school! Entertainment could not even get time correct to bring in the new year. Staff should also learn to be polite and to smile. Im fed up now to continue !!
"Worst Holiday Inn I've been to!"
Had booked and prepaid for two nights leading up to the August bank holiday Monday. Checked in late afternoon, early evening. Went to the room. I was appalled. I can do 'basic hotels', but I will not put up with dirty and dingy hotels. The room we were given initially, STUNK. Obviously used to be a smoking room as it wreaked of old smoke. It was also dated, grubby and tatty. I called reception and asked to be moved. They showed me a few other rooms. All equally as disgusting. Two of the five rooms that we were shown had someone else's hair grips still on the floor! One room had one on the bathroom floor and another room had one on the bedroom floor under the coffee table! All rooms had peeling and stained wallpaper. They also had air fresheners strapped to the air con to try (in vain) to rid the horrible smells. The table had fresh coffee stains on. Clumps of hair accumulated round table legs. Mucky stains round the light switches. I could go on.... I asked the receptionist if they could assist me in finding me else somewhere to stay as I felt so uncomfortable at the thought of staying here! Unlucky for us, we hadn't realised that it was the weekend of the Reading festival so there was literally NO hotel rooms ANYWHERE. So, We stayed one night. I requested a refund for the second night and had to drive home after our commitments. I quite happily and regularly stay in basic hotels such as Travelodge and Premier Inn's. They feel like The Waldorf compared with this Holiday Inn. When I raised the issue with the receptionist, she knew what I was going to say before I even opened my mouth. She said they were well overdue a refurb. I said that is obvious but it is no excuse for dirty and uncleaned rooms.
"Better Second Time Round"
12/15/14 MartScot Edinburgh, United Kingdom
When I visited back in April 2014, I said this was an Average experience. I'm pleased to say that today's stay was Excellent. Good check in experience. Nice corner bedroom. Good food, served within a short period of time. Great bar tender and server in Jamie (please feed this back) she was really attentive and it was clear that everyone in the bar area was treated as a valued guest. (sorted me out with a different beer when the Stella ran out - honestly, I didn't empty the barrel). The funniest but biggest difference for me was the Kit-Kat chocolate biscuit. Why? Well the last time I was here, I didn't ndetstand the attraction of a free bar of soap and a chocolate drink sachet. No suggested that a chocolate bar or biscuit would be appreciated more by guests. Hey presto! Well done to the hotel for taking on constructive feedback - it's the little things that make all the difference. I will definitely be back.
"Staff are Fantastic at this friendly Hotel"
Stayed at this Hotel while at Reading for a Wedding. Hotel is what you would expect for this price range. I had 3 rooms with Queen size beds for all of us, they were all lovely clean and tidy. what impressed me most was the attitude of the staff in the Hotel, nothing was too much trouble. I'd especially like to mention Darren on reception, the happiest and friendliest Receptionists I've ever met. I would also like to mention Charlotte in the dining room, very helpful and friendly, really makes a difference to your stay, when staff are like the two guys ive mentioned. Charlotte this review is from "two sausages" Dad, thanks again for all the great work you do.
"Not all it should be ... but"
11/10/14 Frank T Tarporley, United Kingdom
My hotel chain of choice is the International Hotels Group which runs, among others, Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza. Whenever I have to stay away they are my first port of call and the Reading West property is one I frequent a number of times a year - because it is almost equidistant between my Head Office and my son. I opted for this one last weekend but not all was well. This property is run by a franchise operator and, although the marquee and style is the same there are subtle differences. Let me start with the positives from our stay - the staff were attentive and welcoming, cooked breakfast was pretty good and the parking excellent and we got the superb 'I' newspaper free. Ah yes, I forgot to mention how good the staff were - inadvertently I had clicked and confirmed 'Reading South' and when we arrived they had no record - here is where being part of a chain counts. The receptionist rang their sister hotel who cancelled my reservation and then they rebooked us in Reading West - stuff like that is what helps reputations. Now the less than brilliant; remember this is November and it is the UK, so one might expect the room to be equipped for the vagaries of our weather system - it had the obligatory 'air-con' and you could warm the room up but the fan noise isn't good. The bedding seemed to my wife and I to be 'summer weight' and there were no extra blankets - as a consequence we were a tad chilled, preferring that to the 'roar' of the fan. The shower cum bath filler seemed to have a mind of its own and either filled non or both. Finally in the minus stakes, the 'free internet' was hard to connect to (I have had this before so put it down to my ineptitude rather than their issue) luckily we had our own 'mifi' unit. Would I recommend this unit? I suppose for convenience yes, but I would expect the chain to take note and act.

Overall this hotel is adisappointment. When my wife and I arrived (attended a family wedding nearby) we were greeted by a very willing receptionist who seemed very uncertain about basic information other than the time of breakfast and dinner. Went into the bar for a drink and a snack but waited so long for service, I had to go to the reception to ask if the bar was actually open. Eventually a young man arrived who looked and sounded like he had just been woken-up and who immediately said he would get someone to take our order. In fairness a young lady arrived a few minutes later and took our food order. However, after having waited for an hour and chased on at least three occasions, we were about to give-up on our meal altogether when it arrived or at least some of it. The rest followed ten minutes later. As a complete contrast, breakfast the next morning was really good and staff were enthusiastic and quality was good. Some of the remaining staff looked and sounded like they didn't really want to be there. I was expecting one "middle-aged" staff member to say "I'm not paid enough to bother", but he didn't. He certainly looked and acted like it though. Something will need to be done here if the hotel is to be a real success.
