The oldest part of town, Oude Zijde, is famous for its Red Light District, but the University and the docks bring a different kind of colour and buzz to the narrow streets. Don’t miss the Oude Kerk, the Amstelkring Museum or the paintings in the Amsterdams Historisch Museum.

What a lovely little hotel! Central (about 5 minutes walk from central station) and clean with super-friendly staff. As the name suggests it is chic & basic, but not so basic that your comfort is compromised in any way. I was actually surprised to learn that it only had 2 stars?! Overall, highly recommended....stay here!

The hotel offers guests a comfortable place to stay with a few amenities not available at similarly priced hotels throughout major European cities (such as free wireless/ethernet cords in the rooms as well as a community computer with internet in the lobby). The staff was welcoming upon arrival and helpful with inquiries regarding nightlife, sites to see, restaurants, etc. They had space enough to upgrade me, for free and without a request from me, from a single to a double room, offering more space. The hotel is about a 7-minute walk to the red light district and a 15-20-minute walk to many of the museums (e.g., Van Gogh, Heineken, etc.). Would definitely return to this property.

This was an outstanding typical Amsterdam hotel. If you are from America it is going to be different from what you might be used to, but for Amsterdam it was amazing! Great location and the view from our window was "picture perfect" The staff was helpful and friendly.

-A 10 - 15 min. walk from Central Station where all things transportation-related either begin or end in Amsterdam. -Lots of restaurants near-by -The girls on the desk were helpful in many ways but especially in helping me book transportation to England via train and ferry. She offered to find flights and let me use her phone and printer. -The Continental breakfast offered lots of variety though everything was cold -There was no place to sit in our room, and couldn't lean up against the headboard since it is made of fabric. -The only window was way up high so couldn't see out, nor was there much natural light. This was on first floor. -Private bathroom was large and well equipped but a flight of stairs down inside the room. Different!
