The hotel was quite lovely. It was modern and clean and in a conveinet location. However, for the caliber of hotel, I did have a few complaints. They advertise that they have wifi, but the coverage was virtually non-existent in the rooms and spotty even in the lobby. Also, as others have mentioned in their reviews, the bed was very hard and the shower […] was very weak. My husband and I stayed at the Kolbe for 5 days while visiting Rome in April. The hotel itself was good. The restaurant downstairs had great staff and everyone in the hotel was helpful and friendly. They provide you with a map of the city that highlights all the attractions which was really helpful. The vast majority of Rome’s allures are within walking […] distance, in fact the only time we used a cab was to go to the Vatican and the airport which is what makes this hotel more than convenient. As a guest in a hotel I hate the fact that they didn’t have a white comforter on the bed. Colored bedspreads really gross me out because I don’t trust that they are clean. Also, there were several days that our maid service didn’t come till late afternoon. Because Rome was such a time change for us we were usually exhausted after 5 hours of sightseeing so we would come back to the hotel around 1 to rest. More often than not the room hadn’t been touched and housekeeping would come while we were trying to catch a nap. All in all I would recommend it because the hotel is nice, but for the great location above all else. Read more

We loved the "family room" for four. We loved the sunny terrace where we had drinks every afternoon. The staff was accomodating and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast and the complimentary wi-fi. We loved the location - with a view of the Roman Forum. We found every area accessible from Kolbe Hotel Rome, and would highly reccomend it.

We spent two extra days in Rome upon returning from a Cruise Our stay at the Kolbe Hotel on February 2nd and 3rd 2013. Was quite okay, nothing to write home about this hotel. The hotel is situated in the older section of Rome, but with a five to ten minutes walk you can be by the coliseum and other attractions. The overall assessment of the hotel is […] average. We were given a large suite on the second floor toward the cobble stone street If you kept your window open the noise does bother you, but when closed we were fine. Our bed was circular, which was kind of nice, but the bed was very hard. The room had two television, but CNN was the only English channel, the room was clean and fresh, the daily breakfast which was included in our price was nice nothing over the top, like some other reviews stated. Comparing this hotel with an American standard hotel, I would say a Hampton Inn, (of course Hampton beds and beddings are by far superior. The Kolbe is a great hotel. Very modern in a city as old as Rome. The staff are very professional and friendly. Breakfast was DELICIOUS and abundant. Very enjoyable experience. The only thing I would say is if you are not driving, be prepared to walk. The hotel is 'good value for money'. Not a 4 star in my opinion, the location is great. Very close to all the ancient attractions and also very close to the busstand. Do not take the Metro but try the Hop On/Off bussystem, than you will see Rome the best. For diner do not miss the Trastevere area. Very nice and affordable restaurants

Everything was great for the most part. Its noisy on the main road side of the hotel especially if you are on ground level with the cobblestones hearing cars go by while trying to sleep. Internet doesnt work well at all in the rooms only the lobby area. Which was horrible. Breakfast in the morning is wonderful and free to all guests. The hotel faced the Roman Forum and was near the Coloseum. It was a fairly easy walk to most of Rome's attractions. Our rooms were huge for a European Hotel, and the building was lovely- a former convent thoroughly renovated. The courtyard garden was a beautiful location for breakfast. Lovely hotel in a good location. Easy access to sites and restaurants within walking distance. Staff was great and multilingual. Our room was on the first floor and was of good size with a quite comfortable bed and good sized bathroom. Only thing that I could slightly frown about was that there was a "basement" feeling on this floor with the windows […] up high and no view at all even though the room was at street level...this was good for privacy, but made it feel like we were in the basement a bit. Very nice hotel for the price and centrally located. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, though the mattress was a little firmer than we were used to. The hotel is located in the back of Palatine Hill which made it a short walk to the Coloseum and Circus Maximus0. The bus stop to the Vatican, Castello St. Angelo and St Peter's Basillica is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. There are not many resturants in the area so we ate while we were out sight seeing or at the hotel. The hotel offered a free buffet breakfast which was decent and filling. Hotel Kolbe is perfectly located for anyone interested in exploring the old Ghetto, nicer parts of Trastevere and the ancient Forum Boarium. The hotel overlooks the west slope of the Palatine Hill so street-side rooms on the first floor and higher have views of the imperial ruins. The windows are double glazed and we did not find traffic noise to be […] a problem. We found the hotel fully meets the Italian standard for a 4 Star property. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful although not all had the same level of skill in every language. The breakfast is somewhat better than the typical tourist hotel fare, but if you have a choice save the extra cost and simply stroll to the corner and have a cafe and amazing pastry at Cristalli di Zucchero. The restaurants of the Ghetto are a short walk away, as are parts of Trastevere so there is no shortage of dining options in the area. If you happen to be there on a weekend, drop in at the Farmer's Market one block south of the hotel for freshly made porchetta and local craft beers. Two major bus stops are a short walk away so getting to the common tourist locations is easy and inexpensive. The front desk staff knows the routes well and will show you your route on a large map. The only possible downsides are: 1) the beds are very firm - if you're accustomed to a pillow-top you'll have a hard time. 2) a charge for internet access. Fortunately the nearby 0.75 restaurant/wine bar offers free WIFI. Read more

If you can't afford the upgrade than don't bother with this hotel. The rooms are small even for european standards and the room we stayed in had many things in disrepair such as lights and the "jacuzzi" shower they advertised. The pluses of the hotel were that it had one of the largest and best breakfasts of any of the hotels we stayed at on our two […] week trip with very nice fresh pastries. Also the hotels was close to the Forum and Capotoline Hill which has great museums and monuments. Not that close to a metro though. The Kolbe is a nice hotel, location is awesome with a great breakfast to start the day off (scrabble eggs, bacon, pastries, fruits, toast, breads, cereals, lunch meat, yogarts ect. Hot + cold breakfast foods to chose from) and excellant, helpful hotel staff. Location, location, location. Walking distance to serveral tourist sites and restuarants. Always […] felt safe walking back to hotel in the evening. Only suggestion is to offer inroom pay-preview movies in English for relaxing morning and evenings after several days of being on-the go. I'm not one to leave reviews, regardless of my satisfaction, but Kolbe the best hotel I've stayed in. The comfort is certainly not what made it, but the concierges and help were super friendly, reliable and helpful for a couple of tourists looking for a more authentic Italian experience rather than a tourist-filled vacation. Our check-in was for 3pm […] but we arrived around 7am after 14 hours of travel and they were able to find a room to get us in within 15 minutes so we could shower and rest! Because of this we didn't get a nice view nor were the beds super comfortable, but we never missed sleep and you're in Rome who needs a view from the bedroom? Italy is about getting out! The shower was amazing with updates and jacuzzi jets with 2 shower heads. Free buffet breakfast every morning was spot-on. The location is great and a taxi to even the furthest points will be no more than ~8euros. 10 Stars! Read more

Hotel Kolbe was superb with just marvelous service from its superior staff: Sara in the morning, Alessandro in the afternoon, Francesco and Nunzio in the evening. The are extremely reasonable, fast, convenient and reliable and Hotel Kolbe's staff must have called us at least 30 taxis. Hotel Kolbe is blissfully quiet and stunningly located right next to the Roman Forum and Campidologio, a great starting place for touring Rome. It's a restorative oasis which allows one to escape from demands of strenuous sightseeing. Breakfasts are included and are wonderful. I wish I were back at Hotel Kolbe right now, I could live there! Though everything about the Kolbe was wonderful, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff was extraordinary! They gave directions, made recommendations and reservations, ordered taxis, and got us box breakfasts when our city tour started before 7:00 a.m. Our room overlooked the ruins of the Roman forum, we were a couple of blocks from the Circus […] Maximus, the Colosseum, the Tiber River. We loved the garden restaurant at the hotel, and also the terrace restaurant around the corner. The location can't be beat. Walk out your door and the ruins are right there. This hotel is on a quiet street. It's in very good condition and the rooms are clean and comfortable.
