A warm welcome, staff helpful throughout. Restaurant staff very quick and energetic to serve all the customers promptly. Good food. Hotel has a spa plus outdoor heated hot tub and swimming poolGenuine Hotels.com guest review
From the moment you park up you know you've made the right choice coming here. We used this hotel as a base for exploring the island. Staff were great, very attentive, the pool, steam room and jacuzzi perfectly clean and heated just right, so nice after a day walking the island. Breakfast can't be knocked either. We'll definitely be back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very pleased with the hotel, décor a little tired in places but clean. Our bedroom was fine and bed very comfy. The bathroom was ok but could do with something to hold onto getting in and out of the bath as the bath/shower is high (if you don't have long legs or a bit unsteady). Food was ok and good service. Facial in spa good and the young lady very […] pleasant and competent. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Enjoyable visit with just a few drawbacks"
Comfortable stay and friendly service in a clean but slightly dated hotel. For the price, superior room disappointingly small in size, quite hot and stand alone fan had to be used to keep it cool. Excellent breakfast. Good location; ten minutes walk to town centre and station close by.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Dispointment at Melville Hall"
The spa facility and restaurant/bar facility is very good at Melville, but the room, a classic double, fell well below our expectation, the staff were very friendly, and helpful, but especially during the off peak hours, they were non existent, and the bar was on a beeper to a staff member that was operating elsewhere most of the time, we felt that […] this hotel, lacked the level of care and attention to detail, but the facility outside of the rooms, could not be faulted, just the small detail, has gone amiss, which led to a feeling of disappointment Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"4 day break"
Booked an off season break in June but were blessed with great weather. Hotel is easy to find just off the main route through Sandown on a quiet road, so the hotel is very quiet. Parking on site not a problem either. Hotel is spacious, with plenty of seating in the lounge area next to the bar. Easy access to the spa facilities and the outdoor pool. […] We had a 2 bedroom suite, although only booked a room with double bed. Very comfortable room/bed, tea/coffee making facilities and quiet. Excellent breakfast with large selection of hot food cooked to order (eg large fillet of smoked haddock was great and somewhat unusual for any hotel to offer). Would recommend this place to anyone. Good location, especially if using public transport. Great if you want spa, swimming pool sauna and the like. very friendly staff. Room could do with attention to detail, then it would probably gain another star.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We chose this hotel because we wanted a swimming pool and I could not find many decently priced hotels which could offer spa facilities. Overall the hotel is good, staff are friendly and helpful. We had booked two rooms , but we didnot like the location of one of the rooms as it was right in the corridors, so they upgraded us to a superior room for […] one night and moved us to a new room the next morning - which was great. They charged us for the newspapers - though only a small amount but I think the receptionist should have mentioned this while asking. Overall, hotel is located within 5-10 mins walk from the beach. "Very professional hotel"
We were greated by a friendly receptionist and received the same manner from all of the ther staff members. The room was as a normal hotel room would be.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A place to be if your looking for pampering Sauna couldn't be fixed in the time of 1 1/2 days. Can become over crowed in the swimming pool area. Massage girls are not experienced and are only new into their work.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Melville Hall Hotel"
Room and bed - great. Food - excellent. Service - great. Wish I had known beforehand that Utopia Spa is in-house, and available free to guests - would have taken my swimsuit. Room on 2d floor, no lift (healthy but a nuisance with suitcase). Really appreciated extra help from staff members e.g. help with bags; choosing wine with dinner. Wonderful.
Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good but could be better"
It was good but there were points that were not. We booked a spa break and there was nothing to tell us that we had to book our treatments before we arrived. The food is good, and very filling. The leisure suite is nice and relaxing.
"Excellent, friendly and relaxing short break"

We wanted just a short break to re charge our batteries. Melville Hall has just what we needed. Everything was taken care of including the ferry crossings. We had a very friendly welcome and our room was amazing. The indoor pool and hot tubs were just heaven. We didn't have any treatments but I did have a manicure and the result was perfect. All the staff are very accommodating nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this spa hotel to anyone, go and enjoy.

Stayed here during September for a 2 night golf break with a group of 8 friends. Usually don't sleep too well on first night away but did this time thanks to a very comfy bed and room mate who didn't snore! Breakfast service was very good. Cooked breakfast excellent. The Spa facilities were good. We used the outsideJjacuzzi which was welcome after a round of golf. Staff very helpful too. Would recommend this to anyone looking for spa hotel on the island. Only thing to mention is that Sandown night life is very quiet so if you want a good night out, the best place to stay is Ryde.

Fantastic. Would highly recommend a stay here. Grounds are beautiful, spa facilities are great especially the outdoor hot tub...which is hot! Food was cooked to perfection, the staff were lovely, professional and efficient. Would recommend the lamb shank. Wanted 3 courses but could only manage 2, as the dinner was enormous. Had a full body massage & a head massage which was totally relaxing. The girls that performed them were lovely! Had a lovely cocktail with dinner (pitcher) which was probably not the right thing to do in a posh restaurant, but we are glad we did, it was sooo tasty. Stayed in a classic double room which was more than adequate, bed was comfy & clean. I work in a hotel myself on reception, bar & housekeeping and sometimes people don't appreciate the hard work that goes into making a special stay. So well done to everyone, I am not easy to please! I have booked again in January to stay in a four poster room......we can't wait!
"Good relaxing break"

We were badly in need of a relaxing weekend and found it at the Melville Hall Hotel. We booked a very good value package which included a two night stay, meals, ferry and spa treatments. We had absolutely no complaints about the food or the extremely relaxing spa treatments. Met some friendly locals to chat to in the pool and the staff were also lovely, nothing was too much trouble and they were all smiling and efficient. The décor was dated in our room and parts of the hotel but clean with no obvious maintenance issues. For the price excellent value. If you are looking for a 5 star top luxury hotel this isn’t the place, but if you are after a good value, friendly, relaxing hotel as a base to explore the island I would recommend this hotel.
"Ruined our anniversary"
10/07/14 HeidiBikelife Leicester, United Kingdom
We stayed at the Melville Hall hotel for two nights. If we hadn’t paid up front we would not have stayed. For the cost £178 per night, we didn’t feel we got value for money. The Spa facilities we’re quite nice although the indoor pool was tiny. The hotel restaurant was like something out of the 80’s, and the carpet was filthy. We didn’t have an evening meal because of the state of the dining room. Likewise the hall ways were dirty and unkempt. The doors we’re dirty and felt sticky to touch. The room smelt damp and there was two plug in air fresheners to cover the smell, which just over powered you. The bathroom door would not latch and the decor was tiered and dated. The bed was two singles put together and was very lumpy and the scatter cushions smelt quite vile! The coffee facilities that are described as being fresh roast coffee were in fact a sachet of Nescafe. For a superior room it was very disappointing. The first morning breakfast was good, but the second morning it was cold. We left a feedback form and nobody bothered to email or contact us regarding the issues we had. It has ruined our romantic break away. And we will never return to the hotel.

Have just got back from the Melville for a 3 night break and viewing some of the reviews I dont think I stayed at the same hotel.Yes the decor does need some updating and this was going on whilst we were there with new carpets being fitted etc but this does not take away from the lovely hotel. The room was good and bed really comfortable ,all the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food in the resturant was excellent in fact we had only booked for 1 meal but ended up eating there for 2 nights had different meals each night and both were very good along with the breakfast with a good selection of both cooked and uncooked options,it was nice to have fresh fruit and not tinned fruit for breakfast as most hotels do.For the price we paid for the evening meal I think this was very good value.I did not use the spa facilities but my partner did and he thought they were very good as did the other guests. Will definately book again for next year.

We stayed at Melville Hall for our wedding anniversary on October 3rd & 4th 2014. The website made the hotel look fantastic but the reality was different. We stayed in a 'superior room' which cost £178 per night for B&B, I've stayed in many hotels across Europe and would say £80 would be more in keeping for this standard of hotel, especially in the off season. We could clearly hear ALL that was going on in the rooms to the side and above us. The general décor was 'tired' and the carpets in the corridor and dining room were filthy. The room smelt damp but an attempt to mask this had been made with 2 overpowering plug in air fresheners. Had we not have paid in advance we wouldn't have stayed there. I notice that other residents have raised issues about cleanliness, noise and value for money during 2013 but these issues seem not to have been addressed. On the plus side the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would we stay there again? - No.

Husband and I stayed here for a weekend in March this year. I hadn't read any reviews before going but I had looked at their website and the photos looked lovely. My first impression on our arrival was it looked dated and tired, it could be lovely with the right interior. Our room was described as a superior room with a four poster bed, never stayed in a four poster before so I may have had a romantic image of what it would look like. However I was not prepared for what I found. 4x1 plywood strips with a dodgy curtain pole (not my idea of a 4poster) the interior was a mismatch of cheap and nasty mahogany coloured furniture. Not to be disheartened we went down to the dining room for our evening meal. I gentleman took our names and led us to our table, the interior was again tired and dated but clean. There were around 10 couple in the dining room (which is large) and for some reason we were all placed in a line, problem with that was could could hear everything the couples behind or in front of us were saying, not very private, food was average but with the empty tables you could have easily had a more intimate meal, therefore more enjoyable Moving on breakfast was great, you could sit wherever you wanted and there were plenty of choices, fry up was lush. Did have a strange encounter with the gentleman who served at the bar in the evening and also acted as maitre die, we went to the bar on our second evening before dinner and as i approached the bar first I attempted to gain the barman attention, he was somewhat reluctant to acknowledge my presence but when my husband spoke he immediately jumped to action. When we decided to go to dinner we asked the barman if he could seat us in at a more private table, the look on his face suggested we'd asked him if our dinner could be served on the roof, I didn't see the problem, there were 40+ empty tables. He huffed and puffed and looked very flustered at the thought of having to exchange breakfast table settings to that of dinner. Anyway he eventually moved us..... One table to the left! The rest of the staff were pleasant and helpful but this hotel wasn't for us.
"Fabulous family break"

Stayed for 4 nights with my husband, daughter and her partner. We didn't pick the hotel for the spa facilities, but on a recommendation from a work colleague who had stayed there. That said, we booked treatments and spend a morning using the facilities, which were excellent. The pool, jacuzzis, detox cabins and sauna were all clean and well maintained, and the staff were attentive and friendly. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeting and given a brief tour to show us where everything was which was a nice touch. The rooms are clean and tidy and have everything you need, no aircon, but fans are provided. Overall, this was a great break for us and mainly due to the staff, I have been to more expensive better decorated hotels, but would never return due to the staff, this is not the case at Melville Hall, where I would definitely return because we felt we were looked after by everyone there, it's as simple as that for me.
