The hotel was in a great location, there is a tram stop right out the front door. It looked very nice. The breakfast they offer is AWESOME! It really helps save some money. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We have two complaints. The first is that you could hear everything. Our room was at the bottom floor and right next to the steps. The front […] desk was right above us. We could hear the workers and some guests in the hall and the workers above us. The other complaint was that they did not change the sheets. The hotel is environmentally conscious (which we like) so we didn't need fresh sheets every day but when you stay for 3 or 4 days you would like a change. Despite the complaints, the hotel was TOTALLY worth it! We would recommend to a friend and if we go back, we may stay there again. Read more

We LOVED this hotel. It is walking distance to the museums, canal belt, De Pijp shopping area, and the tram stop is right in front of the hotel. This location was quite convenient to both central Amsterdam and the RAI as the #4 train passes directly in front of the hotel. I walked down town one night which was a bit of a haul but there are tons of interesting communities in the area. As for the hotel, the pictures on their web site tell the story well. Also be careful of the stairs in the back building, they are very narrow and steep making carrying my luggage upstairs a challenge. I am glad I only had one bag. The hotel was good looking and well placed. The rooms we got felt like we were in a dungeon!! There was a very small window and we were down in the basement!! When the window was opened,we would get some moths flying in. Thank god we were here for only one night .

I loved the hotel, the lobby, the staff, the free internet and access to computers, free coffee at any time.... Room was a bit small and to match the bathroom, but I expected that from the reviews. My only issue was the cleanliness of the room. While not bad at all - and overall clean, there were a few faults that left us contiplating whether to sleep […] on top of the sheets. Our first night there we were so exhausted from our other travels that we did not notice the random hairs in the sheets that did not belong to us. However the second night my boyfriend noticed them and was not too thrilled. I tried to assure him that they would change the sheets tomorrow as most hotels have the 2-day rule and we were there for 3 - but they did not.... Also, there were random hairs that were stuck in the towels and we had to change a few out with the hotel staff who was more than accommodating. To their defense, they outsource their laundry.... But just a few other items that were passed over by the housekeeper - like a razor head left in our shower from the previous occupant - it was there all 3 dyays! And huge dust bunnies from around the drapes. Again, great staff, great location, great lobby - these were just a few items we noticed but if you make a note of it to the staff I"m sure they would jump to a quick resolution. The hotel does a lot of things right; helpful, friendly staff; free wifi throughout; decent breakfast included; relaxing, trendy lobby area with free tea and coffee whenever; central(ish) location; bicycle hire. However... We booked a basement room, which we had read was small, but these rooms are literally box-rooms. But that wasn't the issue. They […] face onto an outside gangway that connects the two buildings of the hotel. On the first night I only slept about 3 hours on and off due to guests and staff walking along the gangway - chatting, smoking, etc. The windows are only single-glazed too so it didn't block the sound well at all. Also, the walls of the rooms are very thin so we could hear our neighbours' entire conversations. The next morning we asked to move rooms and were upgraded (at a cost of €30) to a standard double on the second floor, facing the main road. This room was much better; huge windows, so very bright; bigger in size; nice view to down the road to the Rijksmuseum. However, it was still flawed as the walls are still thin and it sounded like the guests above we're coming through when they walked about. The tram noise was loud but the double-glazing on these windows helped muffle that. Overall, a nice hotel that was ruined by failing to provide the only thing that really matters: a good night's sleep. Read more

We read very mixed reviews on this hotel before booking it for our trip to Amsterdam. We were thrilled that we listened to the good reviews but that doesnt mean this hotel is a good fit for everyone. We are a young couple in our late 20's who appreciate quality and service. We were looking for a comfortable place to sleep and didn't expect to spend […] a lot of extra time in the hotel aside from sleeping. Keep in mind when looking for a hotel in Europe that they are not large like they are in North America. Pro's and Con's PROS: it included an amazing breakfast; fresh croissants, mini jam jars, fruits, cold cuts and cheeses etc. the bar served free coffee and tea all day which includes espresso and lattes with a little stroopwafel or biscotti. The lounge was extremely stylish and The staff was excellent. FREE Internet! CONS: the room was small but I wouldn't consider this a con, it just left little room to put our clothes for the week. There were no dressers or shelves so our stuff was on the floor. The hotel is also built in a house style building and we were on the third floor which had great loft style ceilings but climbing the steep stairs wouldn't be easy for older couples. The staff at the hotel was very helpful and friendly, always smiling. Any questions were fully answered and gave us tips on where to go and what places to visit in and around Amsterdam and vicinity. We took the bus to Volendam and a ferry over to Marken. Good map of town. Walked to Centraal Station in 30 min. We had a Large Double Room for 2 nights […] and it was great. Black curtains so no light to wake you too early in the morning. The bathroom is small but functional. You get soap, body wash and shampoo in bathroom and hairdryer. The hotel has been renovated about 3 years ago. Plenty of plastic hangers in the wardrobe. Excellent breakfast and as much as you want cereal, yoghurt, eggs, cold cuts, vegs, fruit salad, great bread and pastries, jams, honey, nuttela and fresh fruit. Hotel V is black, very black. Everything is ultra trendy verging on the pretentious. When you arrive and walk through (hopefully not into) the glass doors, the first thing you see is a neckerchiefed golden statue of a bulldog. Your eyes then catch sight of the fire around which is a cosy leather couch and a stack of arty magazines. Beyond this is the […] bar area and seating. Check out the deer shaped vases. Breakfast is served here in the morning which is a selection of meats, cheeses, bread, toast, egg, cereal, yoghurt etc. Its also quite a good people watching spot. We'd booked a small Souterain double room. It was small but warm (it was snowing outside), comfortable and with enough room to move about easily and hang our things up. It was black. It had a nice and clean ensuite shower and toilet which again was black. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The location of the hotel is perfect for those who are looking to stay away from the neon signs and scores of Irish pubs. Its a short walk to anywhere, the Rijkmuseum, Friederickplein, Heineken Museum. There is also a tram stop right outside. Despite constantly not feeling cool enough to be staying here, I loved it. Rarely are hotel staff as lovely and attentive as this. The bar and reception are great and breakfast was very good. Unfortunately, the rooms are not up to standard - bizarre colour schemes - siver and black! Also the bed was very small and uncomfortable. A great shame as location and staff great.
