Select Hotel - Rive Gauche - Paris

Room was very clean despite being small as expected for Paris. Staff was very friendly, and the location was ideal being about two blocks from the Metro/RER stations and within a 10-15 minute walk to the river, Notre Dame and Pantheon... which if you're visiting Paris, you'll want to walk anyway. We did have a broken toilet which after 36 hours of reporting […] and one attempt to get fixed was not resolved and we did end up moving rooms. The elevator was out of service three times during our 5 night night stay which if you're on the higher floors and came from a long day of walking the Paris streets is not the best way to make a crash landing to your room. This has become my new favorite hotel in Paris. Everything about this hotel is wonderful ... the service, the location, the room, the amenities - I was so pleasantly surprised. I stayed in the smallest room and it was very small but the designer did a marvelous job of making the most use out of the space. It felt much larger and was so comfortable.

This is a very nice boutique hotel in a great location. There are two metro stops within a short walk. You are also walking distance to many of the main sites. Being in the Larin Quarter is also a plus in that there is an active nightlife and so many restaurants to choose from. We booked online. The photos of the rooms are deceiving as well as the description. The room was tiny. No place to put anything, barely room for our suitcases. No shower in bathroom - just bathtub. I've been to Paris now three times, every time for a 3-4 night stay, and each at a different place, and this one was the best. The location was fantastic, right by the University and the Luxemburg gardens. The rooms are very small, but very comfortable and clean, and definitely reasonably priced. My room was small, the bathroom even smaller and I had no view. If you are staying in this part of Paris, I would recommend Hotel Splendid Tour Eiffel, Paris. It was cheaper, the room was bigger, and I had a great view of the Eiffel tower.

Great location; quality of staff helpfulness was just so-so. The big problem was the very think walls. Room was very tiny. The bathroom was just barely an enclosure; not really a separate room and it was impossible to take a shower without getting the bathroom drenched since there was no curtain around the tub.

Two minor compalints: (1) The bathtub did not have a shower - just a spray hose which was not long enough to reach above my head and whose holding fixture was at the level of the faucet. The air conditioner rattled and was annoying during the night. That is the only reason I didn't give them a 5 for condition or maintenance of the hotel. It is a great hotel and I would definitely stay there again in the future. One more detail was that we asked for a bucket of ice but they could not accommodate this request, which was odd.

Hotel has great location. Rooms are adequate only if facing the plaza. Hotel does not have a full time concierge so the staff is lacking a bit on providing suggestions. The rooms and common area are very clean and modern. We would stay here again as the location and room quality make it a great place to explore Paris from.

This hotel has everything going for it, from its location right at the Sorbonne on a quiet place, to echoes of its past blended with tasteful modernity, to fine management. But currently (December 2011) it is undergoing renovation (for a couple of more months?) with lots of daytime noise, so check before you decide.
