"Over Hyped Crummy Hotel"
Reviewed by Jim of Leesburg on Nov 2, 2009
I really wanted this hotel to be good. It was just not. Shower was worn out, hot water took 10 minutes to arrive, the moulding around the shower was gross, the room smelled like urine, the tv was a small 15 inch tube and had reception issues, the carpet was worn through in a few spots, and the bed linens were cheap. The soap, the coffee, the creamer, the drapes, the bed spread, everything was just cheap and more cheap. Free Breakfast was bad coffee, bad OJ, generic creamer, OK donut, OK bagels, OK cream cheese. It was like being at a truck stop.

The Wolftrap met all our needs. It was clean, friendly staff, withing walking distance to places to eat, and close to the Vienna Metro Station, about 1.1 miles and a $10 taxi ride. Although we did walk it, after going around the DC sights, the taxi was a nice way to get back. The Orange line took us everywhere we wanted. We would stay there again.

I chose this hotel for cost and location - it is in downtown Vienna. For the price, it more than met my expectations. Extras I did not expect: basic continental breakfast, hair dryer, iron & board, in-room coffee & maker, complimentary bottled water. It's not fancy, but it was clean, comfortable, quiet, and 1/3 the cost of other hotels.

I was attending a concert at Wolf Trap Filene Center and only needed a place to sleep and bathe for the night. Room was old...but clean...if you're looking for a "Honeymoon Suite" this isn't it...but for a bed, bath at a good price this more than fit the bill. Would I stay there again?...YES. Breakfast was a minimum...some do-nuts and bagels...fruit drink and coffee. No cereal, toast or fruit like you may find at other places, but the overall stay was about half of what it would have cost elsewhere and that was the main reason for staying here. I was satisfied, folks were friendly and though the place was packed it was quiet.

The Vienna was okay for the price. The lights outside the rooms shine all night, but it was quiet enough with plenty of local restaurant choices close by. The furnishings are dated (we were in a renovated room) with TV mounted where you can bump your head on it, and heater is noisy and doesn't keep the room temp comfortable. We were not close enough to walk to metro into WA D.C., but drove it in 25 mins twice... not bad.

Wasn't real hard to find, but I did have to ask directions from a convenience store clerk, due to the fact the hotel gave me confusing directions when called. (they didn't even know the exit number off of I-66) The room was average for cleanness, but the little extras were lacking. I'm REAL GLAD I didn't pay full price for this room. The "continental breakfast" was a joke. In fact, it bordered on unsanitary. (same utensils were used for everyone to spread jellies, cream cheese or butter) Most of it was served in the brown paper bags from the convenience store we got directions from, and most of the items were gone by the time we got to breakfast. (9 am) If you only want 4 walls and a roof to sleep at, and not pay an arm and leg, this is your place.

Our experience was outstanding for the price range we were able to afford for this 5 day trip. The maid prepared the room daily allowing us to focus on enjoying our Washington DC trip. The staff was very amenable and responded to questions immediately. The hotel is conveniently located less than 1 mile from the DC metro system Vienna/Fairfax station allowing us to park the cark and use the subway to access Washington DC National Mall, Arlington Cemetary and the Pentagon using the subway system. Additional planning allowed us to budget for transporation before leaving for the DC area. This cut our transportation and parking costs for the trip alot. There are a lot of local restaurants conveniently located near the hotel.

Our last night in DC was spent at this hotel. Jeffery, the clerk, was WONDERFULLY helpful and told us everything we needed to know to get to the Metro station (about 1 mile down the road) in the morning. Continental breakfast, wireless internet, clean room, clean comfy bed, QUIET at night, and a super great Mexican restaurant in the adjoining parking lot. All for the price of a 1 star no-tell motel!! Even the kids said we would stay at this one again on our next trip to DC. The down (notice, there's only one!)? Stairs...we were on the third floor. So consider that if you can't do stairs. The management would certainly work with you to get you on a lower floor if you can't--they offered one to us, but we could handle the steps so didn't need a lower floor. If you're staying in DC, this is the place!
