I was very satified with my 4 day stay at the San Lucca Palace. When I arrived, I had been upgraded to a Jr. Suite, but being alone I didn't need the extra (very tiny) bedroom and besides this room was on the back side of the hotel- no view, so management instantly changed my room to one over looking one of the main walkway's into the city- this was […] at the front of the hotel. I can't say enough nice things about the quality of the hotel and staff- the service was outstannding. The only problem was the wi-fi. I think they have an old system and there are essentially seperate wi-fii's for each floor of the hotel and one for the main lobby area. This was a hassle because I was always loosing the signal. Management was most helpful and kept giving me new login codes, etc. I think the hotel needs a major technology update in this one area. Read more

San Luca Palace sits at the far end of old town, on a popular street with some nice shops. All of the main sights in the old town are within easy walking distance. The hotel common areas and our room were old fashioned and very nice, though the hallways were strangely modern. We received excellent service at check in and out, a great dinner reservation […] at a local trattoria, and very good suggestions of what to see nearby. The lobby sitting and bar areas were particularly nice. Breakfast was good but typical for Italy, meaning mostly cold and simple things. My wife and I stayed here for two nights. The rooms are very nice and pleasantly decorated. The bathrooms are very modern with nice tiling, towels, etc. It is in a convenient, quiet location. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly, giving us good advice on nearby restaurants, and train and bus travel from Lucca. New hotel in old part of town. Just inside the wall with a parking lot of it's own. The people at the desk were all very accomodating, cheerful and helpful. After a long time trying to find access to the car park we had to leave the car in an illegal spot and walk to the hotel. We were met by two receptionists who were busy chatting and who gave us no greeting or welcome. We were then taken to the car park entrance and told how to get in. This was un unmade patch of land which was impossible to roll a suitcase […] across, nevertheless, we were left to carry all our bags back to the hotel by ourselves. We were then asked for check in details but when we politely said we did not want to leave our passports on reception and would rather they were photocopied the receptionist became quite rude and remained so thereafter. When we got to our room it was obvious it had just been refurbished and there was not a single piece of decoration in site. It was just a painted box with a bed in it and felt very cold and uninviting. However, it was very clean. The whole time at this hotel we did not see another member of staff except on reception and the same girl showed us to our room and served us breakfast! It was clear that the hotel was running on a shoestring. Again, on leaving, there was no scrap of common courtesy at all. Only a request as to whether we had used the mini bar and a bill for the parking. Once we had paid the girl just turned away and ignored us. This was the by far the most expensive hotel on our trip and very disappointing. I expect when I pay good money to get good service and there was absolutely none at this location. Read more

The hotel has its own small car park ( €10 per day) if arriving by car and the train station is only 10-15 minutes walk away from the hotel. We booked this small hotel after reading very favourable internet reviews. We were not disappointed - in fact the hotel was even better than the reviews indicated - and really cannot find anything to criticise. The staff were excellent and our 3rd floor superior room was huge, very comfortable, beautifully furnished (including space for 2 large armchairs […] and a whopping flat screen TV) and spotless although perhaps a bit light on storage space for clothes but that may reflect the fact that most of it's clientelle are business people. Like most hotels in Lucca it has no restauant but the buffet breakfast was excellent with an especially charming waitress managing the breakfast room. A big bonus for guests are the hotel's 6 bicycles available free but they need to be booked early in the day. There are ideal for riding round the town's ramparts (4km in length) and over the cobbled streets which are hard work on foot after several hours. The hotel is superbly located at the western end of the town within the ramparts and round the corner from the bus station from which there are public buses direct to Pisa airport at a fare of only €3! I doubt that there is anywhere better to stay within the historic centre of Lucca. Read more
