"Very different, charming, unusual"
Gardens are quite special. Rooms are large and comfortable but not that well furnished. Restaurant was quite good. Service was attentive. I would give this an 8 out of 10.Genuine Expedia guest review
Lovely hotel. We were only there over night, but the service was nice. They had just put up the christmas decorations, so it was really cuteGenuine Expedia guest review
"What a let down"
I lived in San Jose for years and moved in 2010. When I went back in December for vacation I wanted to stay here as I used to eat at the restaurant frequently. The restaurant is still fabulous but the hotel was dismal. The whole room needed upgrades and tlc.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Reading guest reviews is a 'must do' before booking any hotels in CR"
We stayed here for 3 nights when we first arrived in Costa Rica. The staff were very friendly & the breakfast was good, unfortunately we never ate dinner there because we got in late on our first night, the second night of our stay there was a wedding taking place and the third night we had other dinner plans. The room was very nice, clean and comfortable […] (all the beds in Costa Rica could use some improvement). We would have gone back except we wanted to try another area of the city before going home, this was definitely one of the nicer hotels we stayed in while travelling around CR. "Beautiful and eclectic"
Beautiful hotel! Art and colors everywhere which made all of our pictures so beautiful. The room is very big and so unique. Two double beds even though we would have preferred a king. Bathroom is big and gorgeous. Ate dinner at the restaurant and the food was wonderful. Great service and English speaking, which is helpful. We took a taxi to a nearby restaurant for lunch which was very inexpensive ride for great food. Definitely worth it. I would agree that it is not the best location but we are only staying for one night so we wanted to just stay here and enjoy the hotel anyway.

This hotel is really interesting - lots of art work and meandering paths through a beautiful garden. Our room was huge and very comfortable. The shower was amazing - almost a room! We had lunch and dinner at the hotel, and the food was outstanding. The location is not so great - nothing within walking distance.
"We will try another hotel next time"

We stayed here the first night in Costa Rica before we were heading to Sarapiqui. The hotel is colourful and ceatively decorated, and the staff are friendly and helped us to arrange transport to Sarapiqui the next day. We knew the hotel was a bit isolated, so we had decided to have lunch and dinner at the hotel restaurant. When we arrived at the hotel, we where told that dinner was until 22:00. The lunch was ok and they have a nice garden, although the traffic noise was noticeable. When arriving at the restaurant at 20:00, we were told that the restaurant would close at 21:00 that day. And when we asked for a bottle of red wine, the waiter told us that unfortunately they were sold out. But after a while he came back happy and told us that he fortunately had found a bottle of red wine in the kitchen. Our room had two ceiling fans and both where attached to the light. We asked the reception how to run the ceiling fans without the light at nightime, but she could not tell how to do it. So we had to remove four light bulbs in one of the ceiling vans to be able to sleep with van on!
"Quirky overnight stop pre or post flights from San Jose"

This is a quirky art lodge decorated with masses of decoupage and mosaic work crafted by the owner which gives it a unique feel. Nothing was ordinary. There's an eclectic mix of artwork, sculpture, ironwork and chandeliers that are exotic and flamboyant. I stayed for two nights, one post and the other pre-flight home. Both rooms were spacious (I stayed in 6&7), clean and restful, one with a super king bed & seating area, the other with 2 queen sized beds. I couldn't fault the bedding or the comfort of the beds. Good sized bathrooms with plenty of hot water and eco friendly toiletries although the towels could have been slightly bigger. The lush gardens are well maintained with plenty of seating areas to relax, both in sun and shade. Meals are served on the terrace of the hotel: breakfast is comprised of fresh fruit, gallo pinto, eggs, sweet rolls with conserve, washed down with plenty of coffee/tea. Lunch and dinner choices were good and very flavourful - follow the waiters' recommendations for drinks (whether soft or with alcohol) and you won't go wrong! However, the real draw of this hotel is the lovely personal welcome that the staff give you. I was greeted on my return like a long lost friend: reception and restaurant staff are charming and nothing is too much trouble. Do be aware that the lodge is sited fairly close to a main road and that some traffic noise is to be expected. Also, try to arrange a transfer from the airport with the hotel in advance - the 20 minute trip took me an hour and a half by local taxi simply because the driver wasn't familiar with the lodge!
"Look elsewhere in San Jose"

Although the staff was friendly and helpful, our recent experience was rather unpleasant because of the remote location and shabby condition of the rooms. We found the bed and chairs to be rather uncomfortable and the close proximity to a busy road did not afford us a great deal of sleep. We did enjoy our breakfast and dinner.
"cool looking place; gross, uncomfortable rooms."

There is no denying it, the place looks gorgeous. But it fails miserably when it comes to the rooms. The room was too hot. There was no way to control the thermostat. To make matters worse, the celing fans were attached to the lights, so there was no way run them without the lights staying on. Ultimately, I had to remove the light bulbs just to be able to sleep with the fan on. The room was musty, and the sheets were sticky; as if they haven't been washed in a while. It truly was a terrible night. The other reviews seem to base their scores on the overall ambience of the place. It really is a unique environment. But don't be fooled, it is a terrible place to spend the night. No matter how pretty or unique the place may look, I cannot justify recommending a hotel that fails completely at being a hotel.
"A little hard to find but well worth the effort!"

We were misinformed by our naughty GPS, but when we finally found the place we were pleasantly surprised. The quirky, fun and beautiful grounds made me feel like I was in a magical far-away place. We arrived after dark and it was just gorgeous. The young woman who works at the front went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and well cared for. We had to get up early to leave for the airport and she offered to come in at 4 am to make sure we were up and out on time. Wow. She also packed a breakfast for us to go. She was really sweet. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The guard was helpful and friendly. Great place. Also, a really decent Chinese food place right up the road in town.

We enjoyed our one night stay. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The beds were comfortable, the staff was very helpful and friendly and we had plenty of hot water. It is a very unique hotel. A great place to relax after a long flight. We didn't get to visit the surrounding area because we left for La Fortuna just after breakfast. We would stay there again!

Jorge's imaginative art and well-appointed grounds were the perfect base for our group as we prepared to walk the La Romeria pilgrimage from San Jose to Cartago. Our room was very relaxing and our beds were so comfortable it seemed almost like sleeping on a cloud. I didn't have any problems with a lack of hot water, although the others in our group found that a bit of a nuisance. I also appreciated the map of Costa Rica on the wall in our room - it was helpful to see all of the places we had been, and think about where we might go on our next visit to Costa Rica.

No hot water at bathroom sink. Bathroom mirror top was 55 inches (140 cm) off the floor, I shaved on my knees. We were in room three at the top of an unlit staircase with no landing outside the door. My wife almost went down the stairs. The AC worked poorly. There was no in-the-room brochure with directions. We had a coffee maker, but no coffee to put in it. The hot water in the shower was variable. The in room lighting was poor, no lights by the chairs. The front desk was poorly staffed. Not a good night.
