My 4th time back to the Valentin. Great resort, pool, food and beach! I usually go with my husband but this year I went with 5 of my girlfriends to celebrate our 50th birthday. As usual, the staff was friendly and accommodating. The grounds are beautifully kept and you never feel crowded. Can't wait to go back!

This resort is very nice however I personally felt like it may have been understaffed. I have been to four different all inclusive resorts in Mexico and have had better service. Yes the service was good but not exceptional. If you want total seclusion this is the place for you and you must like to walk because you do quite a bit of walking (bring comfy […] shoes). It is nice because no reservations for dinners however you will have to wait at most, they do have little beepers that you can take with you, so you can have a drink in the plaza while you wait. We both got very ill on different nights so kinda put a damper on our vacation but it happens. Room service is great and really like that it is 24hrs. If you want to go into town it is eighteen dollars a person for the shuttle to Playa Del Carmen and thirty per person to Cancun so be prepared for that. They do give you a journal everyday with the daily activities and evening entertainment.On some evenings there are vendors in the plaza to sell souvenirs go into town way cheaper in town. My husband really enjoyed this resort and overall it is very nice I would not discourage anyone from going here but I would probably choose differently next time. Mostly because I prefer to have a room with a large balcony that overlooks the ocean, I knew that they did not have ocean views when we booked but I really missed the view. Read more

Guests put out towels and took all the floats before 6:30 AM and it was impossible to get a chair in the shade and very difficult to get a float. This was our 2nd trip to the Valentin. We love the food, service, beach and our room overlooking the ocean. We arrived to find not only had our room request been granted (2nd floor Emerald) but also our friends were given a 2nd floor Emerald in the same building. It was their first time at the Valentin and they loved every minute of it. The only negative […] was one evening at the Ginger - some how our food order was messed up and our friends got their meal but we didn't. Our food didn't arrive for over 30 minutes and when it did - mine had shrimp in it - I have a shellfish allergy which they forgot about when we inquired where our food was and they were in a hurry to get us food. Anybody that posts bad reviews about food on TA obviously has never been to the Valentin. The breakfast buffet is overwhelming with choices. Dinner is fabulous at the French and Italian spots. I can't eat lobster but everyone else in our group said it was the biggest and best lobster ever (18 oz for $32 USD) The beach has soft sand and only a few shells here and there. The pool was fun and we played water volleyball every day. My only suggestion is less karaoke and more dance music. Luiz at Mar Tierra restaurant on the beach served us breakfast the first couple of mornings and acted like we had been coming to the resort for years....all the staff were very welcoming! Breakfast at both restaurants are fabulous, so many choices and the omletes and crepe stations were great. Lunch was also good. We tried Ginger, Il Olive, French and Steak restaurants. Service was always great, the food was okay. We chalked it up to differences in american beef and mexican beef and just more of a culture in food. We also live in Las Vegas, which has so many big name restaurants, it is hard to compete at dinner. Just make sure you put your towels on your beach or pool chair early in the morning (by 8AM) if you want the prime locations. There were always chairs in the afternoon, just not as close to pool or close to a palapa on the beach. Take plenty of $1 bills to tip, the staff work very hard. The check in went smooth, just make sure you know what time your check in is for or else you might have to hang out at the bar until it is ready (too bad, right). 2nd time at this resort. We loved it more this time. The beach at this resort is one of the best - beautiful sand & no rocks/coral in the water. This visit they had pool floats, first come - first serve. We found no need to reserve chairs at the pool but the better pool & beach palapas did get reserved early. If you want a chair in the sun - no issue. Food - we loved the breakfast & lunch buffets choices! Dinner food was very gourmet; we ate at each of them & enjoyed our meals. Service was horrible at the Italian- we got salads before our apps. & other mix ups. We had asked to sit outside but were told that they were all reserved for "privileged guests" or groups of 2(we were 4) We did ask & get outside at the Mexican after suggesting they put 2 tables together. It was a fun night. We enjoyed the Michael Jackson & Circus shows. We had a great time at the beach party - they could do that more than 1x week. Spa - had an amazing massage by Christina in the spa; best ever! If I could change anything I would like a pool or beach place for a quick lunch - like pizza or burger or nachos. Beautiful resort! The food was amazing, so much to choose from and we never got bored. Top shelf liquor was awesome although the only beer choice was dois equis or coors light. The staff was great, everyone was very friendly and accommodating and since we knew no Spanish it was great that almost everyone spoke english as well. We did leave the resort to go and see the area quite frequently since the Rivera is amazing in the choice of attractions and prime snorkeling spots. I would recommend if you want to save money not booking excursions through the resort and just taking the Collectivó to your destinations and paying at the door/ renting equipment because is was awesome and ten times cheaper than the excursions we booked through the resort. The resort definitely had an older crowd though which was fine by us, but if your looking for a party or nightlife there isn't much to be found unless you bring your own group of friends with. So overall, great food and liquor selection, go the the Ginger restaurant and do the hibachi which was superb as is the sushi bar. Read more

The resort is amazingly large and interesting; the grounds well kept and invite wandering around to see all there is. Beach walking was wonderful, although the surf was crazy wild all week so snorkeling wasn't an option. The mtce man offered that we should use towels to try to block the runoff from the glass doors and that seemed to help some. Our ground floor room had a patio overlooking our own little piece of jungle with resident birds and iguanas visiting each day. Food and drinks were plentiful and service was great at all the sit down restaurants we visited. Our favorite was the steak house where we had filets two nights. The pools are such fun and the drinks offered up are tasty and many. All staff, from the bellman to the bartenders, servers and housekeepers were all very inviting and friendly making our week very memorable. There was plenty to keep us busy and/or many spots to steal away for some quiet time. The beach bar with the swings overlooking the ocean was a great spot for a beverage.
