The Morgan was fine - a bit of an older motel trying to be more upscale. It was comfortable enough, had a mediocre continental breakfast and a noisy TV, but for the price and lack of being on the water, there are better choices in Cambria.

I had a very nice experience here. The room was lovely with VERY comfy beds, and the staff was very helpful and professional. There is very little in the surrounding neighborhood, which can be seen as a drawback, but I loved it. It was very peaceful, and the Mexican restaurant next door (El Chorlito) was awesome! The room was a little noisy at first then around 11:00 pm it got quiet. Walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbors quite well and the stairwells are open to the lobby and noise from the lobby carried right into the room. Our door had a wide crack in it where it didn't close very tight, the lock was secure but it was a little unsettling looking […] at that big crack. Breakfast wasn't served until 7:00 am and we needed to be on the road before then. The breakfast was a little on the skimpy side so we didn't miss much. Clean rooms, nicely furnished. Loved the gas fireplace and room facing the ocean. Ask for a second floor room to open the windows and listen to the ocean as you nod off to sleep. Bathrooms very dated but clean. Complimentary breakfast was ok but limited space for all the people who seemed to arrive all at the same time.

The Morgan is a nice hotel, albeit a little old. The building had rather squeaky floorboards and we could hear noise from the 2nd floor and staircase in our room. That said, our room was very spacious for 2 people and was a welcome sight after a long day of driving. While not the most modern, it had a homey feel and friendly staff.

The hotel location was good for those who want to visit Hearst Castle. The room was comfortable and nice. The bathroom was extremely dark (couldn't shower with the curtain shower all the way off). It looked like the room had been remodeled but bathroom hadn't. Hotel service was good and they have a good free breakfast.

Yes, we were overall satisfied with everything. What I would say that was lacking were a microwave in the room and no elevator! We were on the second floor and it's tough carrying suitcases and such up flights of stairs.

The service at front desk was great! Very welcoming and guided us to good places to eat (theres only a couple). El Chorlito next door has tastey mexican food. The room was nice with a fireplace but we didnt use it... the room lamps had stains and they're white. The seating in the room also had stains which I didnt want to think about what it could be. […] During the night we could hear people coming in and leaving... just a little loud but it had to be our location of the room. By the morning the smell of the linens really got to us. You can smell the bleach too much. Its great to know that they're clean but smelling it for the night wasnt so great. The bathroom could use updating as far as an older look but overall we only stayed one night. The service was great at front desk but the stay not so much. The location for hearst castle is close so I think I would recommend this hotel just for that. Read more

sure, basically clean hotel, sufficient restaurants, very few stores (thank goodness), and proximity to the great castle, but it's hot coffee and a stroll along the empty morning shoreline that rates a stay, just a stroll away

My Wife and I drove from the Bay Area down to Temecula for a friends wedding and decided to do some site seeing on the way home as we had some time and didn't want to make the long drive home. Found the Morgan […] Hotel and really was not expecting much as we were just looking for a cheap place to stay for the night. When we got to the hotel we were pleasantly surprised! Our room was immaculate, spacious and comfortable. The hotel made you feel welcome as soon as we walked in the door. My daughter and I spent one night at the Morgan while visiting the Hearst Castle. When we arrived at 3:00 which the stated check in time, we, along with other guests checking in at the same time had to wait for our rooms to cleaned. After a long drive, this was not good news. We were dismayed to find that the pool was very small and right off of the […] breakfast room. If you wanted to swim during breakfast hours, you would be on full display to anyone eating breakfast. When our room was ready, we discovered that there are two separate buildings and that we had to drive a short distance to find our room. This was a bit inconvenient and it also felt a bit unsafe. In the secondary building, there was no staff and the doors were kept open during the day; I felt vulnerable. The room itself was fine even though smaller than expected. It appeared to be clean and the fireplace was a nice touch. The beds were very comfortable. Since the hotel served breakfast, I assumed that there was a restaurant on site, I was wrong. The entire area surrounding the Hearst Castle, closes down at 9:00 and my daughter and I had trouble finding something to eat following our evening tour of the castle; we ended up at a convenience store in Cambria. I booked this room because it was close by Hearst Castle and the elephant seal beach. It was very cute and quaint and clean and had a gas burning fireplace. The room also had a tub, which was nice because I enjoy a nice leisurely soak when vacationing and not too many hotels have more than a shower. Very quick walk to the beach, and a Mexican restaurant right next door which is a bit pricey, but offers a 10% discount to hotel guests. The Morgan was the perfect hotel for our return journey to the Bay Area since we planned to visit the Hearst Castle's special Evening tour where we were able to arrive just before the sunset & greeted by historic performers dressed in vintage costume. The house was beautifully lit taking us back in time to a special era. The moon was up when we left […] & as we drove down his private estate the castle glowed making it seem like it was floating in air. We were very pleased when we arrived at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and the lobby area was warm and inviting and had lots of various games and things to do. Beautifully furnished with pictures and what appear to be original Julia Morgan drawings for her Hearst Castle project, the Morgan Hotel was welcoming and warm. It was clean and spacious and we even saw some ocean from our side windows. The hotel is not a luxury boutique hotel as advertised. We stayed in the "North Building," which is separated from the main building by a restaurant. There are no elevators in the North Building, so be prepared to drag your luggage up a set of stairs. The room itself was serviceable, but it was rather drab looking. The bathroom was not renovated -- […] beige faux marble counters from the 60s -- and extremely dark. When we arrived there were some stray red hairs on the bathroom counter and something dark (maybe a grape?) stuck in the drain. I called the front desk to have it cleaned, but no one answered. I hung up after the 12th ring. The room faced the road, so there was a fair amount of road noise. But the road noise was nothing compared to the deafening sound of the heater.
