Comfortable old restored hotel on a hill overlooking the bay. Quiet neighborhood a few minutes walk to town and the touristy garishness. Very nice buffet breakfast in a dining room with stunning views of the bay. Not many guests at the end of September. There was a charge for parking and newspaper!

We expected the Imperial Hotel to be a faded gem. We were pleasantly surprised by how up to date it is. Our rooms were huge with balconies and wonderful views of the ocean. This hotel must have been special in its day. The rooms are extra large, the facility is grand, but a little dated. The staff was great, but Vicky the Front Desk Person was wonderful and delightful. The parking fee was a surprise and the spaces were very small. The free wireless internet was for only 30 minutes. I was prepared to pay for 24 hours of […] internet, but was informed if I logged out; I would not be able to log back in. That great view of the sea and hotel in the photo was nice, but that is the back of the hotel and you cannot access the beach from the hotel. My wife and I are in our early 50's, the area around the hotel hosted a lot of teens and 20 somethings. There was a lot of drinking and kids just having fun. I think my kids would have enjoyed the area more then my wife and I. During the day, there were a number of nice shops and dinning facilities to enjoy, but we spent our time with my wife’s family in the area. Dinner at the hotel was very expensive, but very nice. Breakfast was a little expensive as well, so we dined out off the premises at some very nice restaurants for half the price. You will need a vehicle if you stay at this hotel. Our only problem with the Imperial was its location at the top of a VERY steep hill. No option of shuttle down (and more importantly UP) from the hotel to Torquay proper.

Disappointed at first. No parking available. It does not tell you that it costs £7 per night to park. Hotel a little far out from town, quite a walk for elderly. Would have loved a room with a view rather than overlooking the roof - even if only staying one night! Found it to be really big and bit impersonal.

A lovely stay. Hotel is very Grand - if a little tired, but this just adds to the charm. Rooms a reasonable size but all had quality furniture. Only slight complaint, the showers were not very good - only a trickle of water. But not a deal breaker.

Arrival to the hotel was slightly disappointing as the external is looking slightly run down however inside was a different story. Very grand and very classy, the lobby was beautiful. Staff were fantastic and very helpful. Room was a little dated but nothing to complain about, very spacious and clean. Swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna were very nice, […] pool was lovely and warm. The gym looked great too. Location of the hotel was fantastic, easy walking distance to the local town for shopping and eats. Local pubs were friendly. Breakfast was brilliant for a buffet service. Views from the hotel bar were amazing. One thing to note, there were a lot of male cupples but don't let that put you off! Highly recommended for the price, location and facilities. Read more

The weather was foul - so what a joy to come back to a very warm palatial room. Sadly only there for one night on a theatre break but made a fantastic get away, and made use of the pool and jacuzzi - bliss - felt like a real break away.

I love this hotel. Previous visits were when it was a Barcelo and it was top notch. Lost a bit of its plushness now and could do with a refurb - especially the room allocated. Cannot fault the breakfast but the sit down dinner the previous evening was only lukewarm - very disappointing for a Christmas function, since it was only a small group.
