room was a bit tired,i.e floorboards creaked,bath hand shower leaked,no mini bar. had to complain about noise from next door at 2330,appeared to be students french sounded like they were having a party,was sorted right away.other than that enjoyed my short break,hotel was perfectly situated,glorious views and within a short walk to town centre and main attractions.

Beautiful hotel perfectly located. We were offered an upgrade to a superior room with sea view and balcony bath robe slippers..bed was so comfortable. We liked the room so much we only ventured out a couple of hours. Definitely stay again!

A return visit after 53 years! I remembered a glamorous five star style hotel of my childhood visit, sadly she like me has signs of age. Just a little effort could return her splendour; I know it is now part of a different group, so perhaps the decor will be updated where necessary. But the staff were not particularly welcoming or helpful except for rare exceptions. No-one in the foyer to welcome guests, to help with cases or anything like that. Just a bored lad on reception to check you in on the computer. Come on Imperial Hotel staff, get your act together! It is still possible to sit and gaze at the wonderful Devon Riviera that is the bay. But if you want real style and five-star treatment you no longer find it here. There is a nice indoor spa, but you have to walk through miles of corridors to reach it... better to go out of hotel and in at the outside door. One helpful member of spa staff showed us a quick way back. Example of the tired datedness... there was a minibar in the room but no key to open it. When I asked I was told they are going to get a locksmith in as no one has any of the keys; the pot holding the teas and sugars had a lid for a different pot and did not fit; there are no shower hats or robes in bathrooms; the bedroom decor was circa 1990s and one chair's upholstery was worn through on the edge. And the queue to sign out for 11am on Sunday morning was at least 30 people long at once, two people only on desk.

Overall it was good, but I would question it being a 4 star hotel, however, the a la carte dinner was outstanding. There were quite a few young waiters in the restaurant but the service was not that good, we had to wait quite a while after being seated for the wine list and then to order our food. The breakfast was shocking!!! £12 per person was very overpriced. Scrambled eggs were full of hard lumps, the trays weren't stocked up. I ended up having baked beans and mushrooms for my £12 breakfast! The tea was also cold. Disappointing.

We found the room we had needed some work done on it. Bathroom door was so tight it was very hard to open if we closed it. The door handle worked the opposite way that most handles do. The extractor fan in bathroom did not appear to work. The tap controling water to bath or to the hand held shower unit was faulty and it went both ways if you did not force the tap to go to bath. There was a switch on the wall outside the bath room that had a light on it but no indication what it was used for. The net curtins in the window ended about 18 inches above the window sill. Looking at all the other windows ours was the only room that had this "feature". The first two mornings having been seated at breakfast we were told somone would take our beverage order. After 5-6 minutes with no order being taken we had to get our own coffee. The fried eggs at breakfast were like leather, the scrambled was dry and the mushrooms, all be it fresh, were also dry. No one appeared to be responsible for keeping an eye on the hot servery. All the above comments are made as we considered that this was classed as a 4 star hotel and these things were less than 3 star.

Nice old fashioned hotel with good size bedrooms. When we arrived on the Thursday night there was a problem with very slow service in the Restaurant, some of the guests were complaining to staff that they had been waiting for their food for over an hour! However we were not too badly affected and the food we ordered was delicious!

The staff were not trained or friendly and the service was terrible. It took 45 minutes to get served at dinner and that's when we complained. There was a hole in the table and our wine glass smashed and wine spilt over the table and on trousers. At this stage we walked out and the Manager asked what we would like her to do? The rooms spelt musty and the chair in our room was dirty. Would not stay at this hotel again.

The hotel was excellent and the location ideal for all the attractions in Torquay whilst not to close to the bars etc to be able to have quiet and peace if required. Having on two previous occasions stayed at the hotel it is now starting to look a little tired and the once excellent service the standard has certainly fallen down. Where the breakfast was in the past first class too often things were missing and twice we endured stained table cloths and also had to ask for a change with dirty cutlery. There were also other deficiencies.One lady who appeared to be in charge worked very hard whereas the same could not be said for her supporting staff - maybe since the change in ownership there have been cut backs.Hotel offers good amenities and is very close to restaurants,cafes and bars.

The hotel is situated on a hill with beautiful views of Torquay and Paignton our room was top floor with a balcony to sit and take in the wonderful views of the harbour and town. We also enjoyed the indoor pool and jacuzzi also sauna and steam room there is an out door pool too and gym will stay there again

This was once a grand hotel. It is comfy and has great views. It is a little tired in places but we didn't care. Only ate in the bar which was very good but no atmosphere at night. Had a lovely room. Great for me and my mum on a short break.

The Imperial Hotel was set on the side of a hill (for your information if you struggle with walking) just outside the main shopping and restaurant areas but within a 5 minute walk from the main Marina. The views from the Hotel were stunning (we were very lucky with our weather) and you could see over to Paignton and Brixham. The indoor pool (like a bath!), steam room and jacuzzi were lovely and well maintained however the lockers were mostly broken which was frustrating. The outdoor pool was also very inviting and we did have a swim although I was disapointed with the towels which had not been cleared away from the day before and overflowing bins. Breakfast was not so good. Noone actually asked if we had stayed there before. We were shown to our table and told that a colleague would attend to take our breakfast beverage orders. New people came and went. I eventually found a waiter who after a while, still, returned with our drinks. He apologised for the delay saying he had to go to the 'other side' of the hotel for my decafeintated coffee! he then disappeared - hopefully to return with cups and saucers and milk. This didnt happen, so again I had to get up and go to find a waitress but the worst thing was that exactly the same thing happened again the next morning. Once is unlucky - twice was frustrating and infuriating as when we did get our crockery one of the teacups had a large chip out of it, which was very obvious and could not have been missed!

Despite paying extra "on the spot - but not expensive" for a sea view upgrade the room proved just as my title says "worn out".The rest of the hotel is much the same. For the position it occupies perhaps a total rebuild might produce a top class hotel. The present one is resting on its laurels.

We arrived a little early and asked if our room was ready,To our delight it was and were given a delux sea view with balcony twin room at no extra charge. The room was on the 3rd floor right by the lift.What a view we had while relaxing on our sun loungers it was fantastic. The breakfast was also first class.To be honest we did not expect to have such a wonderful time and have asked the staff to put us on their mailing lists for future deals.Rhe hotel was very clean and the service first class.Thankyou.

Stunning location and really enjoyed once I was in my room before going for dinner I could sit out on the balcony with the sun lounger and catch some rays, very relaxing. Only negative I could say about the room was that it could do with a update in décor as very 90's in style. The rest of the hotel, i.e all public areas were very tastefully decorated and feel that rest of the hotel should reflect this.

Stayed 2 nights. First night food was excellent . 2 nd sent back twice. On the plus side. We were refunded our evening meal as it was our 4 th trip this year. So carnt complain. Other problem. Too many young staff not trained . never got a pot of tea with our breakfast. This happened also last time we came.

I was very disappointed by the room quality and the quality of service.Examples: no view from the windows of our two rooms, but another building directly in front (staff quarters)Secondly, as regards bar service, never seems to be open during the day and closes very early in the evening with very poor atmosphere. Thirdly, as regards breakfast, a great view of the bay from the room but poor service. No follow up to requests for tea/coffee, empty trays in hot cabinet (no eggs etc), food on floor, very very poor selection of bread etc etc. At reception, no stamps for postcards, long delays in preparing bill, double charging of newspapers, forgotten parking bills, etc etc.

I stayed for one night at The Imperial Hotel, the room was very small for the price, we were also placed right above the entertainment at the hotel and were unable to get any sleep until 1 in the morning when the music stopped, no windows in the room also meant you had no way of cooling down the room without opening the balcony door. The condition and service of the hotel was good, the breakfast was a buffet style and very good, however the room, being the most important part, let down the hotel overall.

My partner and I recently stayed at the Imperial for a family wedding and it was a fantastic stay. Room was lovely and cosy with a sea view, not very big but that didn't bother us as the rest of the hotel more than made up for it! The wedding was held at the Imperial and it was an absolutely amazing day, they really did go above and beyond to make sure my cousin and his partner had a magical day! Food was delicious and well presented. Lots of variety at breakfast and was also delicious. We did have use of the health centre but unfortunately never did due to limited time. All the staff were very polite and very helpful and nothing was to much! Will definitely be returning soon, as we throughly enjoyed our stay there, and Torquay is just a lovely a place with plenty to see and do.

Having stayed in lots of 4* hotels, this experience was not what I expected. I should have realised what type of night I was in for when I saw the industrial size fan in the room. The room was way too hot even though it was very windy. The windows only opened slightly. I rang down to reception in the early hours to complain only to be told to ring back later!! Not great customer service. I later called the duty manager who was very obnoxious. He said I could pay more towards my second night to have a cooler room. I think paying £149 (room only!!) is quite enough for a reasonable nights sleep. Needless to say I didn't stay for the second night. On the upside the views to the front of the hotel are amazing. The view I had of the car park was not so great. The spa facilities are old but very functional. The outdoor pool was a bonus too.

In a four star hotel I expect a decent sized room. Whilst ours was perfectly adequate it would come up small compared to that in a chain such as jurys inn or holiday Inn and considering this is a Hotels Collection chain it was consideralby smaller than the room I had in their Buxton hotel. Staff were helpful but they had to store our baby food in the staff fridge as the rooms dont have a minibar/fridge (again something I'd expect from a four star). The indoor pool was great lovely and warm. Outdoor pool we did not use. Breakfast was a good selection and well cooked. No idea of restaurant evening meals as we ate out. Sea view rooms have a lovely view. Also even though our paperwork said hotels.com the hotels computer said I'd booked with expedia for 1 person not 2. So make sure you take yourt booking receipt.

The hotel was in a very good location for walking into Torquay, lovely view over the bay, we did have a premium room with a sea view which I would recommend. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would go again, plenty of facilities, lovely breakfasts, restaurant, and bars. Only downside was the hotel could do with a tidy up here and there and the car park was a bit pricey at £7.00 a night. Overall though we were very happy.

We had a wonderful five days at the Imperial. The location rivals or is better than many hotels in a. Mediterranean setting. Hotel spotlessly clean and staff lovely. The only slight problem was the fact that we were there when the weather was very hot and a lack of air conditioning in the room meant it was very warm although there was a fan in the room.

Myself and my husband had a fantastic stay at the Imperial, it was a much needed stay and would stay there again, only two little snags on our behalf, we thought it would have been nice to have a fridge in the room and a better selection for vegitarians or non pork eaters like ourselves.

We recently took my 5 year old granddaughter for a 3 night break. Lovely room but unfortunately the windows only opened a very small amount. Very uncomfortable at night. The pool and gardens were wonderful. Very disappointed in the children's club - very limited and most activities had to be paid for.

I booked the hotel thinking it may be one of those typical sea side hotels that are in desperate need of refurbishment but as I was there to just sleep I didn't really mind. I was very surprised at the quality of the hotel and rooms. My room had a fantastic balcony that overlooked the bay and harbour. It was large and clean with all the normal amenities. My only gripe would be the noise from the lift could be heard in my room as it was adjacent to the lift shaft. Bar food was good and not overpriced. Staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast buffet was excellent with the choice & quality of the food outstanding. Again a small gripe but I would prefer the £7 per day parking charge to be included within the room rate.

Saturday check-in, very efficient. Room a decent size with a wonderful view, balcony with a couple of sun loungers, awesome. Clean, well stocked. Walking distance from the busy hub-bub of Torquay. Breakfast on Sunday morning was hot and cold buffet, loved it. Dinner hall has the most awesome views as well. I know I keep going on about the view, but this hotel, I believe, lives up to its name and its location. We will certainly return, next time with my in-laws whom I know will enjoy it as well. Thank you Imperial Hotel.

Loved the three days we recently spent here and we shall be back. I had booked a standard room 6 months before we were due to arrive but to our surprise England was in the middle of a heatwave when we arrived, so I asked if we could upgrade to a sea view room. We were not able to on the first night but were moved for the other two nights to a beautiful, large, luxurious, sea view room. We did have to pay a little more money for the upgrade but it was well worth it.

The interior of the hotel far exceeds the style and build on the outside. Beautiful communal areas, fabulous views and very friendly staff. The gardens were beautifully kept and it was so relaxing to walk through and then sit and just look out at the glorious view along the coastline. To sit and have breakfast looking out over the bay was a holiday treat in itself. I would highly recommend people to visit this hotel.

View and breakfast were the only positives we liked. One night was long enough. Paid extra $$$ to be upgraded to the room with sea views that I believed I booked. Room looked like someone had been there previously - bed sat on, towel unfolded etc, no other room available apparently. Experienced poor plumbing (sink & toilet).

The best thing about this hotel is the view overlooking the bay. If you don't have a sea facing room then it would be quite depressing. The room was very tired, floor tiles loose in the bathroom, balcony was filthy. Cleanliness of the room was ok. Residents having to pay £7 per night for parking is a bit of a cheek. It's not like the hotel is in the centre of town and being used by the public. On the whole, the housekeeping staff were very cheerful and polite. The bar staff (when you could find them) were very straight faced but the food in the bar was really good.
