"Excellent views of the Bay"
Enjoyed a pleasant one night business trip in the Imperial with good service in the restaurant and reception. Prices are starting to climb as summer approaches and service in the lounge area was none existant when I tried to order coffee. Great views over the bay from the dining room and lounge.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely room Helpful and polite staff. Hotel tired"
Comfortable and warm but hotel living on past glory Needs some TLC but staff very helpful. Ok for 2-3 daysGenuine Expedia guest review
I wasn't expecting to have a good time after making a phone call and speaking to a man who was quite abnoxious. I told him that I did not want to pay £7 a night to park on the hotel carpark and he told me basically to look for parking when I arrive. Anyway the receptionists were lovely. We were upgraded to a lovely room with a balcony facing out to […] the sea. The room was spacious and appropriately furnished. (Carpet could do with replacing or steam clean though) The gym was adequate and it had a good size pool. No complaints at all about breakfast as there was plenty to choose from. However, the staff in the restaurant appeared to be run off their feet and were not so friendly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Totally unable to cope with non-dairy diet!"
Disappointing five-night stay, largely due to the catering. The hotel restaurant was wholly unable to cope with a basic dietary requirement, ie. dairy allergy, despite us 'phoning to warn the hotel the week before arriving. They remained unable to cater to this basic requirement even on our fifth day there when we had been eating in the restaurant every […] morning and evening due to the size of our party. We tried to pre-warn reception when we arrived, but they just suggested we tell them ourselves! Similarly, when I was diverted to reception as no-one in the spa was answering the 'phone, they told me not to bother waiting on the line as the spa was always busy! The absolute limit was when we complained at the final meal when the same order was brought wrong for the second time and the waitress suggested we keep it rather than send it back a second time as the chef was busy! Overall, a disappointing experience. It was strange because the hotel itself is absolutely beautiful throughout! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Our short break"
Everything good, lifts confusing, pool cleanliness and changing room facilities left a lot to be desired with some health and safety issues.Genuine Expedia guest review
Our first child free weekend ever, we looked for somewhere that was a little bit special. Arriving,we where upgraded to a sea view room which was just lovely. The room was fab. Clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was again lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The selection of food on offer was super. "Faded glory but just about ok"
The imperial used to be a 5* hotel. The public rooms are very grand with chandeliers etc. the bedroom we had was a good size great view, extremely clean but a bit dated. The bathroom needed re doing as the enamel wasGenuine Hotels.com guest review

very clean; extremely helpful staff, particularly in the breakfast roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Second time we've been to this place and still just as great value as before. Nice place, pleasant staff, good views across the bay and a few reasonably good restaurants down the road. Had dinner one night in the hotel and it too was good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quality Hotel good value through Hotel. Com"
The Imperial is a good quality old style hotel in a good location in Torquay, within easy walking distance to the town centre. The hotel was quiet when I stayed in early December. Hotels.com had a very good offer on B&B which made the stay very good value. Service was good and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The only negative is the parking […] charge of £7 per night which mounts up if you are there for any length of time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Imperial Hotel, Torquay"
Stayed 2 nights. Room smaller than expected, but clean & tidy. Decent sized television. Standard size double bed. Space in hanging cupboard on one side of bed was taken up by small safe which was a very good idea, but did restrict the space for hanging clothes. Only had breakfast which was buffet type with plenty of variety. Lovely dining area overlooking […] sea. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fantastic views-shame about tired bedroom"
This hotel is located up on the hill overlooking the harbour with stunning views at breakfast, from our bedroom, and the lounge. Hotel was nicely decorated for Christmas. Reception was accommodating in changing our room to a sea view. Good service and good variety of food for breakfast. Unfortunately, our bedroom mattresses need replacing as they had […] no support whatsoever, fabric on chairs was fraying and peeling away, wallpaper coming away from walls, stain on carpet and mold in bathroom. If the bedrooms could be refurbed, this hotel would be 5 star all the way, as the reception rooms are spectacular. Ours was a garden room, perhaps other rooms elsewhere in the hotel are not so shabby. City centre, shopping, restaurants and bars are all walking distance away - would recommend The Orange Tree and Man Fridays (seafood) for dinner. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Spacious room with good view and a good bathroom. Buffet breakfasts good although no bread rolls or cold meat. Would recommend..Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel visited 13 years ago now getting a bit tired round the edges. Service in restaurant first night of 2 terrible , kitchen apparently could not cope with a large party and normal guests at same time waited just under an hour for main courses to appear, one of which amazingly was dried up as if left in the hot drawer for half an hour ,we had to leave […] before pudding came as so slow , manager did apologize and made amends next night . next nights service and food much better. Garden room opening to terrace and gardens was very nice. Little information as to services offered and no entertainment provided as far as we could establish. £7 per night for guest parking is a bit of a cheek given the general level of prices. "Why Fawlty Towers was set in Torquay"
The Hotel would have been something in it's day but it's day has been and gone. Once you leave the ground floor it becomes very tired. Worn carpet, creaky floorboards and a maze to find the lift. Our room was small with the double bed hard against the wall, toilet wouldn't flush and the hot water took 25 minutes to reach the shower. The Breakfast and […] communal areas lived up to the advertised description but forget the rest. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Reception staff welcoming and helpful, food and service in the restaurant generally pretty good. Room clean and functional, with great views across the bay. All in all a good value break. Food was just a little poor but overall just a wonderful place to stay. There would be absolutely no doubt that we will stay there again when we return to see more of the area.Genuine Expedia guest review
Didn't know what to expect, but wasn't disappointed. Location is great, view from balconies etc are stunning. Staff friendly. Only complaint would be that the double bed felt more like a 3/4 bed. Don't let this put you off we had a great time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Joke of a place. Like a throw back to the 70's Shocking service. Grubby place.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a three day break and can't complain about anything. The staff were friendly and helpful, Hotel was clean and good sized rooms. The weather was great and the outdoor pool was very inviting. As the hotel was five minutes from the centre ideal for getting to bars and shops. Would definitely go backGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Huge suites with one double bed and tv in one room and twin beds and another tv in second room. Room décor could be refreshed. One slight disappointment, others paying same rate were given sea view suite.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Torquay's best value hotel, but needs investment"
The Imperial is a fair hotel overall for its price and star rating. Its strengths are undoubtedly its friendly staff and its organisation of activities for families and children. The food is good value and well presented. The room service menu is limited but what you get tastes good and is not expensive. The hotel's weakness is its fabric and fixtures, […] which give the impression of being creaky and in need of some major financial investment. While I was there, the fire alarm went off several times unexpectedly, the lift was out of order for 48 hours, the internet connection cut out for a couple of hours, the TV and its limited number of channels went on the blink a few times, and one of my windows wouldn't lock: lots of small niggles which did not, however, spoil my overall positive experience. My room was comfortable but the desk had no chair and the TV was too far away from the bed. It nonetheless remains the best value hotel in Torquay, in my opinion. Terrible weekend staff-asked for directions to outdoor pool. The member of staff had to ask someone else as was 'her first day' only to be told and over heard by myself 'im too busy tell her to ho to reception'. Pool attendant was chasing a boy around outdoor pool running over loungers and breaking a table. Evening meal reservation was made before arrival […] for our group of 7. However, the reservation was not put on the system. This was rectified eventually. Food was fantastic however, wrong cutlery was brought out-no soup spoon or steak knives. Room 132 was located close to laundry? as from 12am through to 8am I was kept awake by a constant washinemachine/tumble drier noise. On checkout I was given no opportunaty to voice complaint about this. Over all a mixed experience. Didnt feel was worthy of a 4 star status and was more expensive than the Grand! Would not stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent sea view hotel with wonderful service."
The whole atmosphere of the hotel was great decor, friendly and very polite staff. It was a happy place to be with fantastic views. We had a bar meal, sea food platter which was lovely and served quickly. Breakfast was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, our bed was 7 foot wide and so comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review
"one night stay"
For a four star hotel Room was very tired indeed. The upholstery on both chairs in bedroom were worn or torn. no mini bar. heated towel rail was on and could not be turned off in bathroom. Breakfast very average, cleanliness of china an issue. Position of hotel on cliff above sea was impressiveGenuine Expedia guest review
A nice hotel fantastic views if you are facing the Bay ; however rooms at the back overlook car park and I couldn't open the old wooden windows to get some freh air in. No hotel WI FI either.Genuine Expedia guest review
Really enjoyed the hotel, we had a Superior Room which was very spacious and loungers on the balcony. The view across the sea and bay was amazing. The location of the hotel could not have been nearer the town and harbourGenuine Hotels.com guest review
On arrival we had been up graded to garden room wonderful views over bay with sun loungers to relax on. A very enjoyable stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Overpriced in our opinion."
Good location but very tired. The room was small for what we paid. The restaurant was awful. We complained and did get the cost of the meal cancelled. We styed the next night at the Palace hotel which is much nicer in our opinion.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Generally very nice"
Over all the hotel is lovely, the views of the bay are fabulous and I really could not fault the room. Some of the furniture is a little tired with the brocaid on the chair in our room was falling off. Everywhere appeared clean. I found the food to be disapointing; the menu hardly changed the four nights we were there, just one item from the main course […] and one form the sweets. The service was slow which we don't really mind but they could not give us a table until 8:45 so it was 10:30 before we had coffee. Breakfast was OK, the fried eggs were how you would expect, when cooked and served in a job lot; i.e. the yolks like rubber we did manage to find a couple over the four mornings that were slightly runny. We learnt to order the tea and coffe before we started or else we would have finished and be ready to leave before it was delivered. Mind you check your bill before you pay; we were over charged for our evening meal and the people leaving at the same time as us were charged an extra £10 for a bottle of wine. As I say lovely hotel in a splendid position but I guess the human element needs a bit of a brush up. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"4 star hotel that is really only 2.5 stars"
This is a 4 star hotel, but is very tired - The leisure centre is very tatty. The room we had was above a function room and we were told it would be quiet, but in fact we had thumping disco music until the early hours and on our second night a barking dog in the next room. Couldn't wait to get home to recover. The car parking was £7 a day !! The view […] from the restaurant was great though, but the rest spoilt our break Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Excellent 3 day break at the Imperial. Hotel.com had a very good deal and I was really expecting a catch, sorry Hotels.com! "Tired old place that seems understaffed"
The imperial is a tired old hotel, the room had had a bit of a make over that just did not reach todays standards. bar service was slow, not the staffs fault there were just too many people wanting serving for the staff on duty. Resteraunt food ,choice, presentation and taste all poor and well below todays expectations, somewhat mass produced. They […] even charge for parking, £7.00 . The only thing this hotel offers is a view if you are lucky enough to get a room on the front. Wont go again, likewise Torquay poor and not worth another visit. "Huge Hotel but good service"
Disappointed at first. No parking available. It does not tell you that it costs £7 per night to park. Hotel a little far out from town, quite a walk for elderly. Would have loved a room with a view rather than overlooking the roof - even if only staying one night! Found it to be really big and bit impersonal.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Imperial Hotel Torquay"
This hotel must have about the best location in Torbay away from traffic and high above the seafront. Although the room was large and had a excellent side sea view (picture) it had a disappointingly small 4' 6" double bed. The lounge and dining room (breakfast excellent) had a magnificent view across the bay to Paignton and Brixham. Watch out for extras […] such as at least £7 per night parking and an extra hidden charge of £5 if you book dinner at the restaurant (where the menu and price is) instead of reception. "Lovely, Grand Hotel taking you back to another era"
A lovely stay. Hotel is very Grand - if a little tired, but this just adds to the charm. Rooms a reasonable size but all had quality furniture. Only slight complaint, the showers were not very good - only a trickle of water. But not a deal breaker.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
