Hotel Bern - Tallinn

Nice little hotel. Clean and located in the city center. However this hotel shares the yard with a bar/ night club. So all night you will be enjoying the drunk crowd smoking, yelling and singing songs under your windows. We stayed on Monday - Tuesday nights, I can't imagine what's going on there on the week end.

Enjoyed our stay in Tallinn. The Bern was good for us since we like to walk and old town is literally around the corner, to the left and to the right. Only a block or two the opera house. Small room. Fine array of bread, cheese, meat, hot food, very nice coffee, fruit, etc. Not a cornucopia but no one will go hungry or not find something to enjoy. The room is small, but it is kept very clean. The courtyard setting assures quiet so no problem sleeping. We had drinks with a friend in the lobby and the hotel's small bar and seating was convenient and comfortable. I found the hotel's being inside a sort of strip mall courtyard (hair salon and beer hall) a bit off putting, but OK. I'd stay there again, but would ask to see a bigger room. Odd hotel pricing in Tallin in winter. I imagine it is that the weekend visits by Helsinki discount shoppers drive up hotel prices by several dozens of dollars less so in restaurants. Many hotels I did not see listed on hotel.com or in Trip Advisor. Those might be a better deal or they might be dreadful. Read more

My parents and I stayed at Bern for a few days during our visit to Tallinn and we have never been in a more welcoming and professional hotel before. The staff was very welcoming from the moment we walked through the door. All of the staff speak English but with us some even spoke Russian, which is our native language. The lady at the front desk who […] signed us in gave us some suggestions regarding places to see and dining spots and offered any further assistance we might require. The room was clean and neat, the bathroom spotless. Also, the breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choice. One of our visiting days fell on my birthday and it was a huge surprise to receive a card and complimentary Champagne from the staff which was brought to our room! This kind gesture made the day all the more special. Overall, the staff is professional, welcoming and kind. The hotel is clean and sufficiently big. It's a basic hotel but it has everything for a budget traveler. The room is a bit sparse but clean. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was nice. I was leaving very early on the last day and got a little bag to go (a couple of sandwiches, an apple and a hot drink). Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is located at the edge of the Old Town.

If you're traveling to Tallinn, then this is the place to stay. I was traveling with two of my friends so our room was quite cramped with the three of us, but we made it work. The hotel sits back off the street which made for a quiet stay. They offer drinks at the front desk which may be enjoyed in the lobby or outside on the patio (at the lone table - they may set up more tables when the weather is better?). There was really no need for a cab while we stayed at the Bern as everything - including the ferry port - were as I said before within walking distance. The room while small was very clean. The WiFi access made communications very easy. The price was right as well. All in all, a great place to stay. If you have three people traveling together, I would recommend booking two rooms. The exterior is attractive and modern for a nice small European hotel. The lobby is very nice. THE STAFF ARE GREAT. The shower room design works remarkably well and the bathroom air venting is fantastic. This is the only bathroom of that design I have ever seen that work well and is not a issue at all. THE AIR CONDITIONING saved our trip, we were there in July and it actually works (rare for EU hotels) The only complaint would be the coffee is not to our taste, however the McDonald's that is five minutes away solved that. The location could not be better - we would NOT want to be inside the city wall - to busy and crowded during the day. The grocery store across the street is fantastic, everything you need at reasonable prices. The one improvement I would suggest for the hotel would be get rid of the mini bar (does anyone really ever use those??) and leave the fridge for the guest use. Maybe giving a option of mini bar or fridge would suit all. Next Tallinn trip we will definitely stay there again. Tallinn is so much more interesting then Helsinki hands down. Had an otherwise satisfactory room (for the price) on the third floor with a lovely view of several of the town's spires. facing southwest. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet had a wide selection. The room was clean and comfortable, though a bit spartan. The only negative was the shower which drained into the floor rather than into a catch basin, so the bathroom floor was wet afterwards.

Only issue I had with an otherwise perfect hotel was the "Gentlemens Club" in the basement. Its not affilliated with the hotel and has a seperate entrance, but it's a bit off putting when you arrive at the hotel to see a sign for a stripclub. Otherwise, no complaints, hotel was clean, comfortable, and in an otherwise great location.

This was our 2nd trip to Tallinn in 12 months. On the basis of the high Expedia recommendations we subjected this hotel to close scrutiny. The welcome, and indeed all contact with any staff was extremely warm. No unusual request was any trouble. Everything worked, the rooms were spotless, sufficiently roomy and comfortable with the bonus of gowns.. […] There was a lift and the breakfast was good. The location was handy to all points of interest in the old city. Offsetting this was the location just outside the old city walls in an average street. There was the compensation of a comprehensive supermarket opposite. The room decor was pleasant but nothing more. I was unable to find extra pillows (although I am sure they would have been provided if I requested). The tariff was very reasonable. A lovely little hotel that is within walking distance of everything in the old town.we were looked after very well by all the staff especially a young lady who I think was named "Agne". A short walk from the hotel is a bar called " Scotland yard"...give it a try and check out the toilets!

Also just around the corner from the Hop on Hop Off Bus. We had an early morning flight so couldn't! wait for Breakfast but a tray was sent to our room. The location for the town and restaurants was good. The room and bathroom size was adequate. No shampoo etc so remember to take your own. Breakfast was good. Hotel was very clean and in good condition. Noise at night was disturbing - don't know where it came from but it woke me and I am a heavy sleeper. Stayed three nights and noise on all nights.

Hotel was very pleasant and all staff were very friendly and attentive. There's a useful supermarket open until 10pm directly opposite should you require anything. Breakfast was enjoyable with a good selection of foodstuffs. There's a bar entrance in the hotel's courtyard but, at no time, was there any noise from it or its customers (probably because […] there's a separate entrance / exit on the other side of the bar for non-hotel guests). Taxis are easy to obtain outside the hotel and the hotel will assist with requesting one if you need this. My only slight issues were the lack of a room safe (which Hotels.com told me I would be getting) and a minor issue with a noisy aircon unit in the room (which was resolved once I mentioned it). Although I didn't have a room safe, I was able to secure items in the safe at reception. I would recommend this hotel particulary in view of the experience of friends on the same trip who stayed in other hotels and were disturbed by noise from nightclubs. Read more

We spent four nights at Hotel Bern in July 2012, and enjoyed its excellent location just outside the Tallinn old city walls. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast buffet was good (though perhaps a little fresher for those arriving earlier), and the room was clean and fairly quiet - the internal walls are not soundproof, but crucially you don't […] hear any of Tallinn's infamous nightlife. The only slight negative for us was the shower, which, while fine for pressure and temperature, is partitioned from the bathroom only by a curtain. In theory the floor's gradient should direct the water down the drain but in practice a shower longer than a few minutes creates quite a puddle, and we felt we were wasting towels a bit. That's a minor niggle, though; we'd stay here again and happily recommend it to others. Good value for money overall. Read more

The hotel loaction is ideal, just off the old town, you can walk everywhere for bars and restaurants. The open top bus tour is litterally arround the corner.
