The hotel is very nice. Rooms could use a facelift. Visited many beaches Surin was great. 2 minute walk to the beach. Leam Sing? Beach is very close and super nice.

I paid for a Pool Duplex and got a Duplex that was facing the parking lot with no view of the pool. The renovations are old and in dire need of an upgrade for the price. The service was terrible. There was no hot water each time I needed to shower. I had to call the frontdesk each time in order to get hot water. The location is great and staff are friendly. It was off season in May hence not that many guests in the hotel. Sells itself as a boutique hotel which is correct given the design and decoration of the hotel and the rooms. I got upgraded to a ground floor room with its own little terrasse and plunge pool - very nice. I recommend this hotel to people […] who like smaller hotels, dont need a gym or a big spa area but appreciate nice design, and proximity to the beach. Having said all this, the hotel's appearance and appeal risks to slip if management does not spend more on the upkeep. That is, painting the walls, replacing defect wood panels or worn out fabrics, mirrors whose edges become rusty etc. Now its the time - one/two more seasons and it becomes too dated for a hotel of this class. Beautiful boutique hotel. Only surprise for first-timers is just how big Phuket actually is. We had limited time and ended up not going to the PhiPhi or James Bond Islands. This would have required a very early morning departure and ALL day trip. But... I guess that it is that way for everyone. The beach in front of the hotel is nice but shared with […] MANY other hotels/beach clubs. Rows and rows of beach chairs. Not much of any nightlife on the one street that makes up this beach. A lot of Thai restaurants on the beach but nice restaurant choices limited to hotels (we ate at the Twin Palms and enjoyed our meal, didn't eat at the Manathai beyond the nice breakfast buffet but their restaurant looked nice)... but after seeing the 20 year olds running around trying to see "PingPong shows" in Patong (30 min shuttle ride away)... maybe the relative isolation was the best part of this hotel. One things I didn't understand... the Manathai offers free shuttle to Patong but "only one way". To get back you need to hire a tuk-tuk (which are available on every corner) which cost ~500Bhat. ?? argreement with the tourism board to help the tuk-tuk/taxi drivers get more tourist money? (For comparison, I think we drove all over Bangkok in A/C taxis and never had a ride more than 100 Bhat...) Read more

The hotel looks like it could be nice, however the poor functioning of amenities and the staff really detract from the experience. The location is great, very close to the beach. The decorations are nice and the breakfast is good. The staff barely speak English. When we would ask them for something, we'd have to ask them multiple times, and even then […] they might not do it. We had made an arrangement for a tour earlier in the week, then decided to cancel it. We asked two different staff members to call and cancel the tour for us, yet the tour operator showed up anyways because the staff had never cancelled it. The internet did not work in our rooms for the entire length of our 4-night stay. Our inquiries as to the problem and when it might be fixed were always met with elusive answers (ie "the rain knocked it out", which is odd because it rains there EVERY DAY). The phone in our room didn't work, so we had to ask to use the lobby phone for calls to the airline and tour operators...and then they charged us for the calls from the lobby! The shower didn't work, you had to hold it in your hand to take a shower. They came to fix the mount for the shower head so at least it stood up properly, but then the water would go from room temperature to scalding with no notice, burning me several times. We had pools of water appear on the floor, not sure if they were from the malfunctioning shower or the toilet, but we had to use a lot of towels to soak up all the water. Read more

There are 2 sections of the hotel, I believe the room we got was the older section, as the water fixtures were not working properly. Furniture was a tad old, but well maintained. Breakfast was average. Other than that, the stay at the hotel was really pleasant and cosy. The hotel and lobby lounge was well decorated.

stayed one night at this hotel to see this side of Phuket. Location was unique as it is on a quieter stretch in comparison to Patong etc.Check in was pretty much a breeze, spending 5-8 minutes in total at the counter and show into the room (pool suite). whilst the service shown by staff was 'professional' it seemed lacklustre without the 'enthusiasm, […] genuine smiles, that it almost is mechanical- speaking from a tape recorder or something' . Place was of nice design, tasteful architecture, but unfortunately extremely run down. very aged wood panels (not the nicely aged!) and old furniture was evident throughout. whilst the in-room pool does seem attractive for some, we didn't use it at all (seemed dirty, non-moving and i wonder if tey have cleaned it/or regularly clean it (just my opinion, not fact based). the pool in itself is also not very practical unless you just want a dip (dont expect to swim laps or even circles in there, its just ~ 2x3 m or something like that) . all the welcome stuff (fruit platter, tea trays etc.) added a nice touch and the room was well prepared with all the things needed to be where they were(the tub, bed , tables, etc) Overall a decent stay for this price, at this area. the largest disappointment was the condition of the hotel which makes it seem dirty (aged) . This hotel is out of the hustle of Patong and felt more relaxed and quite and Surin Beach was MUCH nicer than the beach in Patong. The room we stayed in was really nice with complimentary water bottles every day. The staff were friendly and the food was good. We stayed first at the old department, which were a bit worn out and lacked proper cleaning. We managed to be relocated to the new wing at a wonderfull room in two floors. It was our second stay in the hotel as we liked it last time. Don't want to mention the staff and the hotel itself, have nothing disappointing to say. A very beautiful one with friendly and helpful staff. I left my charger there and they sent it to me to another thai province. Cocktail party every Friday and complementary tea every day have become a nice and very pleasant bonus. The bad impressions are very personal: too many people. Sometimes it may be really irritating. During high season the beach seems a bit too crowded to me. The food and anything else around is a bit overpriced if you compare to other provinces. We booked this hotel during peak season, knowing that it would not be a luxury experience, given the price and also wanted to go with a local chain instead of a large hotel brand. Unfortunately it was a disappointing experience but did not stop us from enjoying our Phuket holiday. This hotel is not in keeping with Thai standards, in terms of attention […] to detail. The lower priced rooms are very small with little storage and frankly the bathrooms were full of mold. We upgraded to the studio suite which is much larger and well appointed but still there were some minor annoyances, like the black paint on the bathroom floor rubbing off on our feet and socks. The pictures on the website are misleading since the hotel is in serious need of maintenance and repair. On the positive end, we found the staff friendly and communication was not a problem. The free wifi was adequate and the beach facilities across the road were great, with no additional charges. In summary, the Surin beach area is great for those looking for an alternative to the more touristy areas of Phuket. If you're looking for a reasonable place to stay and aren't picky about the facilities then consider the Manathai. If you're looking for a luxury hotel experience with 5 star amenities, look elsewhere. Read more

We booked in to Manathai and stayed in the cheapest rooms available - described as "Lanai Deluxe". The initial room we were given had a connecting door to a room that was wide open next door with no door knob or lock on it - it didn't feel secure. It didn't have a window but rather a glass brick section of the wall that let in natural light. When i […] attempted to have a shower, the bathroom fan didn't work, and the shower head fell off at the wall. The bathroom felt dirty, but i think it was just that it was old. They put us in another room with a working shower and a window that opened ... onto a construction site and main road. Again, the bathroom was old and poorly maintained, this time the shower was situated in the bath which was difficult to get in and out of. We were definitely expecting something nicer for a 5 star resort. Another observation was that the locks on the rooms were pretty token. If you're worried about security, and used to electronic locks, you may feel unsafe. We kept all of our electrical stuff in the safe in our room. Having said this, the communal areas, including the beachside area, were lovely. It became clear that the cheap rooms where we were staying were in an older part of the hotel. If you're planning on booking one of the more expensive rooms/apartments, read another review, because our experience may not be applicable. Read more

I am not of of those negative people who like to complain, but there are things one must know before booking. 1) Surin beach (what's left of it after the freak monsoon) is nice, but waters aren'r calm and shallow; also gets deep quickly. Few hotels, little nightlife (seems idyllic, but can be boring). 2) Hotel looks really lovely at first, but it does […] look tired, not a 4 star as little comunual areas and rough around the edges - trust me, I am trying to be objective, but the tiredness of the furniture, the antz on the table at breakfast, the lack of attention to detail do let it down (original design if kept pristine - absolutely amazing). 3) Room: not been cleaned when we arrived amd even after being cleaned it was not up to my standards, maybe I am used to staying in 5 star properties which are spottelsly clean, but it just wasn't clean - take my word for it. The following days the room was tidied up roughly and not properly cleaned (for sure floors weren't clean). You can notice this everywhere really, so I started feeling uneasy, laying a towel over the sofa as I started hitching (maybe in my mind). In essence, it depends on your standard, would be great for most, but if you are really clean, like pristine environements and 5 star cleanliness, this hotel is NOT for you. We just had a fantastic stay at the Manathai with friends for a long weekend. The location is perfect; just a few minutes walk from the beautiful beach of Surin (the hotel provides free sun-loungers and towels on the beach), the rooms and hotel in general is clean, both family and couple friendly and the staff are friendly, attentive and professional. […] It has a nice relaxed vibe and was peaceful. The breakfast could be a little more varied however it it will be good enough for most. The pool suites have nice sized balconies and the pool bar serves a mean cocktail, perfect around 7pm before some fresh fish on the beach! Nearby restaurants (both cheap and more upmarket) are varied and delicious. You could easily spend 4 nights in Surin and not need to leave the town! Hotel had a great location a few hundred meters from Surin Beach. Unfortunately had problems from beginning. Had booked two adjoining rooms, queen bed and two singles for teenage children. Arrived to be told did not have any rooms with that configuration. Booked on internet with request configured, Booking should not have been accepted. Teenage children […] split time on either queen bed or bed settee! (no other solution). We were offered another better room next day but still only had queen bed and didn't address our problem! One room was small room for bed and adjoining bathroom other was larger with bed area and couch to view television. Could not be used as such as it became the spare bed. No windows to either room, doors onto thorough fare and area used by other guest for smoking. Unfortunately rooms required some maintenance. Bathroom shower drain blocked took several days to get fixed. Airconditoners had bearing problems and were too noisy to leave on at night so was difficult with no windows to open and only ceiling fans. Breakfast was a good buffet each morning and staff always friendly. Local shuttle to Patong 3 times daily but there was plenty to enjoy locally on the beach during the day and good local beachfront dining of an evening. (Good value dining and local vendors provided an even cheaper lunch option with quality fresh cuisine). Enjoyed the location, perhaps better rooms would convince us to go back. Read more

The Manathai was everything we hoped it would be, the staff were gorgeous, friendly and incredibly helpful in organising tours, car hire etc and we found the resort well kept and mantained. Vety affordable for the location. We stayed in a pool villa, but to be honest didn't use our pool that much as we also had the large hotel pool on our front doorstep […] (it was also warmer than our pool). The room was lovely and bathroom large. The breakfast included in our poackage was adequate but not outstanding. The hotel is located very close to the beach and we made use of the Manathai beach club facilities. It was a lovely experience to soak up the sun and enjoy the surf at Surin and have lunch brough to our beach chairs from Mr Chan restaurant which looks after the beach club. The umbrellas and chairs are quite old but we are told they are about to renovate and update the facilities. Surin is very relaxing and serene, if a little quiet. Stannade 4 nätter. Surin är alltid trevligt men hotellet är ostädat och har riktigt dålig service. Droppen var när vi frågade om transfer till piren för att ta båt till Ao nang. Vi betalade 700 bath och förlitade på oss att båten gick den tid som hotellet sa. Det gick ingen båt alls. Inte kul!
