"A magical place"
A beautiful resort nestled in the mountains. Robert Redford is quite the visionary. He developed tastefully while putting the environment first. Service is great and the Owl Bar with live music is a must. Not to mention, there is an outdoor Amphitheatre.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Absolutely beautiful setting"
This was a perfect place to stay for a family reunion happening at the neighboring camp ground. Gorgeous setting and very comfortable space. "An Ideal Place to Experience Fall"
In late September this year, my wife and I spent one night in a spacious well-furnished studio with a queen bed at the Sundance Resort. The guest rooms are located at a privately secluded area and grouped in separate buildings. The building housing our studio is surrounded by trees and a creek is nearby. It was fall – the walking path was covered with […] golden yellow and pinkish red fallen leaves. At night, the chirping of crickets echoed in the valley bringing back a lot of my childhood fond memory. In the morning, wild turkeys roamed around outside our window. It was a great night for both of us. By the way, food offered at the Grill was very good. Peter. 10/11/2013 Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Relaxing and fun."
This was our second year at Sundance. We love the outdoors and the art facilities available for the family. Meeting local artists, and exploring different creative avenues in the Art Shack is so great! Hiking, exploring, horseback riding, and now fitness in the yoga yurt; there is something for everyone. Our whole family loved it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Overall great stay. Absolutely no complaints!"
Staff was exceptional. Facilities very clean. A very relaxing and tranquil location. Everything was great.Genuine Expedia guest review
Can't give this hotel enough positives. Some mistakes made like room service sending the wrong food but was refunded and given free dessert! Rooms were private cabins with full service kitchens. Would have liked a rail in shower as it was difficult for me given my balance problemsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I am a big Redford fan so always wanted to go to the Sundance Festival but of course, could not afford it. The next best thing is staying at the Sundance Resort. Rates are still high but affordable, especially since we stayed there for our 30th wedding anniversary. Our suite was rustic but very comfortable. I loved the little patio where was saw wild […] turkeys grazing right in front of us. We stopped off at the grocery store on the way to get snacks and breakfast stuff. Our dinner at the Foundry Grill was great (my husband had wild boar!). The hike to Stewart Falls was memorable since parts of it was used in the movie Jeremiah Johnson. I will always remember our stay at Sundance. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Iwas very disappointed that they didn't clean my room one night. I also had to be changed rooms because they gave me the wrong one. I love Sundance though. they promised to upgrade me next time because of problems.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The staff was extremely helpful and professional. Rooms are large and very clean. The resort goes out of its way to be eco friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Mountain suites were very spacious. A nice change from the traditional. Rooms included a well stocked kitchen, well appointed furniture and amenities. We really enjoyed the relaxing deck overlooking the slopes. Only downside was 5-7 minute walk down to main area. Beautiful walkway, but not something to attempt with ski equipment. We had to drive down […] each morning to ski. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Sundance Resort Thank you for letting us know how much you enjoyed your stay at Sundance Resort. Our lodging units are uniquely appointed as are our luxury mountain homes. We are so glad you liked the spaciousness of your accommodations and had an opportunity to spend some time relaxing on the deck. Your review is very much appreciated and we hope that we can welcome you back soon.
I had a wonderful stay at Sundance. Our room was big, yet very comfortable. Although, I was surprised for the price we paid, that the room wasn't more updated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

What made this outstanding was the view from our cabin, otherwise it was pleasing. Definitely not a 5 star stay but I got such a great deal on Expedia that I was not upset with "Pleasing".Genuine Expedia guest review
"Geared mostly for active young adults"
Our "Standard" room was disappointingly tiny, and ridiculously so for the price. We had to edge around the bed to move across the room, and there was only one chair. The bijou nature of the room was starkly evident one day of heavy rains when we discovered that Sundance has no common area, lounge, or other place capable of seating more than three or […] four people at a time, and that we had no option for a place to sit and read except our room. Our room was decorated nicely and had a pleasant, small patio, but the bathroom fixtures were terrible (sink fixtures so undersized that the water from the spigot ran down the back of the basin, making it hard to wash one's hands; the shower fixtures were floppy and loose, and seemingly incapable of calibrating a pleasant shower temperature). The sounds of plumbing, footfalls and voices from adjoining units were highly audible and borderline annoying. The room was in a building that required an outdoor, downhill walk from the parking area and a further descent of 20 steps, and we (seniors; bad knees) were not apprised of this fact before being escorted to the room. The mountain location is scenic and wonderful, and the grill restaurant served delicious food. But the lodging was underwhelming, and the whole resort seemed dated in size and amenities (again, for the price). All in all, the target demographic for this hotel is very young, vigorous and inclined to be outdoors most of the time. Others might find it a bit lacking. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Could be almost perfect....."
The location is superb, the staff and hotel grounds are superb. The bed was VERY comfortable, the Foundry Restaurant on sight was wonderful. I stayed in Mandan #7 a cottage suite with mini kitchen. My few complaints are: the plumbing fixtures are old and the shower dripped, the shower knobs knocked and were poorly planned, need replacing. The bathroom […] tile work and fixtures need replacing desperately, they are no where near a 4 or 5 star resort. The furniture isn't comfortable. I struggled to know where to sit comfortably. The 2 chairs at the foot of the bed are not comfortable. The skylight above bed is nice in the day and horrible in the morning. You have an automatic alarm clock whether you want it or not. The tree room restaurant was amazing. Service was great, food wonderful. We booked a cabin suite, but the room was very small and only had a single chair - not an ideal cabin for a couple.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful Setting, lots of hiking and other activities"

I have stayed at other resorts of this nature. Chico Hot Springs comes to mind as it is at a similar price point. I am not a huge outdoorsman, but do love the setting here at Sundance and the beauty of the views from various points on the grounds. Breathtaking views abound. Or cabin was a condensed version of a full cabin, replete with a small living room and mini-kitchen. The kitchen had most all of what you'd need to cook in the cabin. The bathroom facilities were adequate, albeit a bit on the small side. The living-room was well laid out with a beautiful fireplace. The decorations were a Native American/Cowboy blend of clothing, horse gear, pictures of Robert Redford and animal artwork. The ottomon had a rather large tear on the side. The wood trim and paneling was rustic and appropriate to the whole theme they had going. Our unit had a great patio (an odd door sill set up) and was better than averaged size. The facility has lots of outdoor parking. We took up one of the Rolls and did not feel that we had to worry about anyone messing with her. The biggest shortcoming here was that they did not have pool or hot tubs/spas on the property. Overall I would recommend for someone into the whole outdoors experience. We went with the intent of having a romantic getaway, but alas this takes me to the bedroom... well more like the loft. Very little headroom and narrow stairs led to a platform atop the kitchen with 6' of headroom at the apex of the ceiling slanting down to about 3' at the head board.

This resort is fabulous. I'm not much for cold weather, but if I am going to go where snow is, this is the place I want to do it. We had 6 people stay with us in the Red Hawk house. There was a hot tub, a full kitchen, great master bedroom, 2 queen rooms and 2 twin beds in the loft area. Even a masage chair. We came in for a friend's wedding and had dinner at the restaurant. I got the scallops. Delish. The mac and cheese was so delish. The venue was absolutely stunning. One of my favorite parts of staying here was having their car service pick you up and drop you off. The bartender in the owl bar was super super nice. Excellent stay!
"Small, quaint and fabulous!"
There wasn't enough snow to ski, so we came up for lunch and to hike. We had a great day! Everyone at the resort is so nice! The report is small and personable. We had a great lunch and then hiked Stewart Falls. After our hike we got a snack and just sat by the fire pit and talked with the locals. We definitely want to come back.

Sundance continues to impress me. My wife and I made a spontaneous weekend trip for her bday and everything was perfect from great skiing to superb dining and accommodations. The service was even better than we expected. We'll definitely be making this an annual trip.

The rooms, views, food, and activities provide something for everyone. Most of the staff is excellent. This was considered a "slow" time to visit, but we had more than enough to do. The Spa (massage, facial) were wonderful!
"A little piece of wow hidden in the forest!"
03/05/15 Kat_Brizzle Bristol
We stayed at Sundance for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon. This was the final leg of our 3 week road trip and we had been hoping for something of a back to nature experience with a bit of skiing thrown in for good measure. We were not disappointed! Sundance is magical. As you leave the interstate for the mountain loop road and start to wind your way up the mountain and into the forest the excitement starts to build. There isn't a line of cars behind you eager to get to the slopes, just you and the distant twinkling of a few lights as the sun starts to set. This is like no other ski/mountain resort I have ever visited. On arrival we made our was across the small car park to the guest arrivals cabin. It's a cosy wooden cabin with a welcoming log fire and lounge area. We were greeted by both the concierge and reception staff who are efficient but come across as genuine and relaxed. We are shown to our Sundance Suite by Paul who asks us to follow him up the mountain behind his truck. The suite was in fact a little self contained wooden cabin and was just stunning. It was rustic and quirky but with a luxury feel. The cabin flowed around a large central chimney breast and log fire, off which were the bedroom area, a petit but practical kitchen/dining area (well stocked with crockery and cooking utensils, as well as complimentary tea/coffee/cider mix) a dressing room and a bathroom. The bathroom included the addition of complimentary toiletries which were hand made at Sundance, a nice touch! After settling in we made our way back down through the well lit paths that lead through the forest to the main area of the resort. Flowing through the centre of the resort is a pretty mountain stream/river, which provides a relaxing ambience as well as many photo opportunities on the pretty wooden bridges which cross it's path. The stream diverts at one point into a large pond which has a beautiful larger than life sculpture of a Native American fishing in the pond, an impressive nod to history and respectful ethos of Sundance. The main resort complex is compact but caters for whatever you could need during your stay. Our starting point was the General Store, which is a well staged gift shop with an eclectic mix of clothing, jewellery, stationery and craft items. It's cosy and inviting and very easy to get drawn in by the many curios and unique items on offer. The General stores leads into The Deli which serves up coffee, drinks, sandwiches and snacks as well as having its own fine selection of kitchen themed gifts to purchase including glass and pottery made at Sundance. The Deli also operate the room service menu which we tried for both breakfast and dinner one evening. It was a quick and efficient service, but comes at a premium cost. The food is delivered in disposable cartons ready for you to plate up in your cabin. Off The Deli are the Foundry Grill and The Owl Bar, both worth a visit. The Owl bar has live music a couple of nights a week which is great fun. We were lucky enough to meet some of the locals hanging out at the bar ( Hi to The Tremmels!) and we're introduced to the Foundry Grill Chef Rico. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, we really did feel like we had a genuine connection to place. The bar staff were engaging and polite, but more than anything they all seemed happy in their work, which really shone through. The food in both the bar and the Grill is wonderful. Great comfort food dishes that won't disappoint, as well as great pizza's with some interesting toppings! It's the same menu in both just a little more informal in the bar. The resort also has a more fine dining restaurant, The Tree Room, which we saved for our last night, also the last night of our honeymoon (see separate review). However once again it was the service here which really stands out - thank you to Basil our waiter. The only thing that was really missing from our stay was the snow! We headed out to the slopes on our first day but it was hugely icy in places as well as many of the runs being closed. We can't really hold Sundance responsible for this but it was disappointing. That said there was a very positive and charming feel on the mountain. We got the impression that apart from a few tourists in the know, that the other skiers and boarders were all locals, many of which were families. We were also lucky enough to try out the spa whilst at Sundance. This was a wonderful highlight for us both. The experience started with a complimentary foot soak in front of a log fire, a real treat, after which I had a facial followed by a reflexology treatment and my husband had a full body massage. The staff were professional but extremely open and friendly. They seemed genuinely interested to find out about us and gave us some great tips on where to find the best snow. The whole Sundance experience is one I will genuinely treasure, the resort is beautiful but the people are the real jewel in the Sundance crown. I hope we have the chance to visit again.
"Our Love weekend"
02/18/15 LocalTravelerAZ Phoenix, Arizona
We few to salt lake rented a car and drove the hour to Sundance for the weekend. The concierge was very helpful before we arrive in securing dinner reservations for Friday dinner at the foundry and Saturday at the tree room. Both meals were really great. The service good. Saturday my husband skied (not much snow unfortunately) and I spent a few hours at the spa. The treatments were good the spa itself just ok. The 4 instead of 5 star rating is primarily due to young inexperienced staff in general. Being professional and experienced goes further then simply being cute and nice to me. Would have liked to soaked in a hot tub at the spa and been able to eat breakfast at the resort. We did not have a breakfast reservation so we could not have breakfast. Forgot my charger at home and none at the resort could help me with that. Strange considering we all live with our phones these days. Very cute general store. Great small feel to the resort. Cabin was adorable. Housekeeping great.
"Worth the splurge"

Treat yourself when visiting Utah by staying at the Sundance Mountain Resort. Located about an hour outside of Salt Lake up in the Wasatch Mountains. We stayed in one of the cozy Mandan Cottages which are just up the hill from the resort. Enjoy walking around the property by taking in the scenery, breathing in the fresh mountain air and seeing the sky full of stars in the evenings. There are plenty of activities year round. We enjoyed an afternoon of skiing over the weekend and noted the slopes seemed less crowded on Sunday. A new zipline is coming this spring. We were there during the film festival and enjoyed many films at the screening room on the property. Be sure to dine at the Tree Room Restaurant and Foundary Grill while you are there too. We ran out of time to sign up for art classes and a visit to the spa. You won't want to come home.
"Delightful getaway...even when on business"
I LOVE these cabin style rooms! Each one is a little different, always a fun surprise to see what the layout will look like. If you have a need for extra space, make sure you ask for the room's square footage. Heat and all the electric's work great, and I'm in love with the soaking tub that was in my room. I love this resort and would come back time and time again...and luckily my job asks me to once a year! Note that free wifi and cell service is definitely spotty!
"We keep coming back!"

Sundance occupies a special place in our heart as both of our boys, now 9 and 5, have learned to ski there with some amazing, enthusiastic, and fun instructors. The staff, whether it be the front desk clerks, the concierge, valets, housekeeping, food service, those at the mountain outfitter, and ski school, have done everything they can to make our stays special. We just returned from a third ski trip, this time with another family whom we were able to persuade to join us. We appreciated that our suites in the River Run section were close to each other as we were able to have dinners together after some great days of skiing. The accommodations have always been well-appointed although we sometimes see these interesting but innocuous beetles. The spa is a tranquil oasis where you can settle in with a warm foot bath in front of the fireplace. The body scrub & massages that I have had are well worth the price. On this recent trip, the therapist really worked out some knots which made my skiing more enjoyable. I finally had an opportunity to see some glass-blowing and recommend checking out the art studio for some beautiful pieces of glass or other art to take home. We hear that there is going to be a long zip line installed in the spring so we hope to come back after it's up!
