The hotel was lovely, the amenities great and the service too. Unfortunately an incident occured on our second night, that ultimately was found to be not the hotels fault, and was acknowledged by management by a letter the next morning. However, we did feel stonewalled by all front desk staff that morning when asking about the incident. And we did not […] feel that was the proper public relations attitude on the part of management. When I specifically asked if the issue was resolved I was given a blank stare from staff. And my room was one that was directly affected by the problem. Other than the written acknowledgement, nothing in the way of an apology was ever offered from anyone. That attitude will keep me from ever staying there again. Read more

We chose this hotel for our honeymoon. We were very pleased with our experience. Our room was very nice. We enjoyed using the whirlpool tub. Loved the location, close to excellent dinning, shopping, and surrounded by history! The accommodations where first class, loved the breakfast and wine and cheese in the afternoon, room was very clean and spacious. I loved everything about this hotel -- friendly staff, warm cookies and milk at night, wine and cheese in the late afternoon, large bathroom, comfortable bed, and complimentary breakfast even delivered to the room. This was my 8th trip to Charleston, and the French Quarter was by far the best hotel I've stayed in.

(1) The location of the French Quarter Inn is near-perfect, within walking distance of most Charleston historic sites, restaurants, and good shopping. (2) The staff is very nice. (3) The Tristan restaurant in the building has only an avant-garde lunch and dinner menu, and doesn't provide breakfast or room service. The breakfast offerings in the lobby […] are entirely sweet and of only moderate quality. (3) Our room was large but misrepresented. We prepaid for an "Executive Suite," which in most luxury hotels includes a bedroom and a living room. This was actually a Junior Suite. (4) The bed was far too soft for us. (5) The infrastructure (The bones of a hotel room) is poor. Our bathroom was completely inadequate. Odd-shaped, and poorly lit, it had a single small sink set in a glossy black too-low counter on which small objects were almost invisible. It had a small, noisy toilet with an open front seat (usually found in public bathrooms), and an outdated slippery bathtub which had been sprayed in a futile attempt to roughen the surface. The hardware was abysmal. A cheap single-lever faucet which was impossible to adjust without high force, a drain which didn't close properly (and through which one of us lost a contact lens), and worn and antiquated bath and shower heads. Linens were nice and plentiful, but displayed on a large iron rack bristling with curlicues on which to scratch oneself. The toilet paper was low grade, and the hot water slow to arrive. Read more

One of the most appreciated amenities of the hotel was the free use of its new fleet of bicycles which allowed us days of unrestricted and up close perusal of the beauty that is Charleston. This was especially appreciated by the member of our family who was not feeling 100% and consumed gallons of that beverage liberally spiked with honey and lemon to "right their internal ship". I can't say enough good things about this hotel. The hotel itself was gorgeous and the staff bent over backwards to make sure our stay was fabulous. We went for our 1 year anniversary and they went above and beyond to make the weekend special. Very clean and spacious room. Best location in historic district. Also, they have bikes that can be reserved no charge which was great to get around the area. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return.

We did not need our SUV due to the close proximity of everything Charleston has to offer.
