We had an unplanned stay at this resort. We had initially been elsewhere, but our two small children (ages 3 and 1) were eaten alive by mosquitoes and/or sand flies, so decided to check in to this resort for our last 3 days in Jamaica. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel. We all enjoyed the last days of our vacation immensely […] as a result of our stay here. Our room was not ready when we got there, so we were given a free upgrade to a suite. The suite was beautiful, clean and spacious enough for the kids to run around while still allowing us space. The two balconies in the room allowed us to enjoy the oceanfront view even while the kids were napping in the bedroom. The most memorable part of our stay was the service. The restaurant servers, the front counter, the nurse, the chambermaids, and the bellhops were all amazing and a real asset to the resort. My only disappointment is the nature of the ocean...it is not the blue-green wonder we enjoyed elsewhere on the island. That said, the kids actually went into the ocean, as they've made it more kid-friendly by reducing the waves and depth out front. The entertainment throughout the day was great, as are the activities geared towards kids. While not a five-star hotel experience, we would definitely stay there again! Read more

Old, dirty, mildew smell in room, television was old and channels were not clear, elevator out of order. Refrigerator in hall , food was not fresh, smelled bad, was not served properly because sauces were so watery they spilled over and burned my hand while I was going to my table. Looked as if it was left overnight, lobby outdated, dirty looking.

This was our 3rd stay at this resort in the past 4 years. We have always enjoyed our stays, but this one was not as enjoyable. We were told last time we would get free upgrades for being returning guest and that did not happen, we brought my parents and in-laws with us this time and we were all put in different buildings even though I had madethe reservations […] for all of us. We also requested to be in building 6 or 7 since we had stayed there before we knew where we would like to be and this time we were given a hassel because we had kids with us and they wanted us to be in the kid buildings even though my kids are 11 and 12. We go to enjoy the peace and relaxation of the beach and not listen to 2 and 3 year olds crying. You get what you pay for at this resort, the food is ok, jerk chicken is awesome!! We will stay here again, we just won't expect any upgrades that were mentioned to us in the past. One other thing, the first two visits my husband brought his fishing pole to fish this time when he went to fish was told he wasn't allowed to. Resort could use some updating, but like I said you get what you pay for, staff is friendly, beach is great, you feel very safe there with pleanty of security, glass bottom boat tour is worth the $20, the new Japanese restaurant is worth the $20 surcharge. Management needs work. Long lines at bars with one attendant. Tried to force you to eat at buffet restaurants telling you sit down restaurants were "full"" when they weren't. Of course had to pay surcharges for those which were steep. No opportunity to tip for good service so employees of course were not happy. If you complain loudly will get moved to part of hotel that has been redone but even though we had paid for upgrade they had initially tried to put us in the old run down part. Poor poor service and poor management. Paid hundreds of dollars more in surcharges. Bring your credit card! On the plus side, it is close to the airport and the beach and pool area are quite nice. Kept them quite clean, lots of chairs and towels. The employees tried their best under difficult circumstances. It would be a great deal for a family since I understand they stayed for free. Our room was quite large and we had a nice view of the ocean and beach. Good music and lots of activity. Plenty of college kids also that seemed to be having fun. Also seemed pretty handicap accessible around restaurants and pool area and would have a good beach view. Nice little swim up island with shallow water for kids. Check in was speedy. The check in desk, bellhop ANC information desk were wonderful. After that-it went downhill. Water sports staff simply kept saying it was too windy, not windy enough or but enough water to take the boats out. We heard the Italian restaurant was really good, but did not have a chance to try it. You can eat free at the Italian restaurant because it is included in the All Inclusive package. (Something they do not tell you upon check in). The free alcoholic beverages get old after the first day, unless you like beer. The rum is too sweet and hangover inducing before you even get a buzz. The staff were overall friendly, given the circumstances that they are catering 24/7 to demanding white people. The hotel entertainment was certainly entertaining, but I wish they would exhibit more local culture. Instead, the entertainment is geared towards white people, and feature a lot of live singing selections from Kenny Loggins, Johnny Cash, etc. But like I said, it was entertaining. There was a live steel drum outfit there one night, and they were amazing. I would have paid to see them here in the States. Overall, if you're looking for a true Jamaican experience, go to Negril. We stayed in building 4 and for one week had no hot water at all. Luke warm water was available and the hotel stayed that there was a problem getting heated water in that building. We encountered difficulty changing our room because the hotel was at capacity and we were staying in a room as a family and the downgrades were much smaller.
