"Great Hotel"
This was our first time in the Keys and loved this hotel. Nice beach...updated room...friendly outdoor bar. Well worth the price. Breakfast is a bit bland but free so no complaints, especially when drinking coffee while overlooking the water. One tip..make sure to identify some landmarks at night to turn onto the hotel street. The hotel is tucked away and it is not well marked. We missed the turn twice the first night. But overall we enjoyed our stay and would go back.

"Exceeded our expectations!"
Pelican Cove far exceeded our expectations. It has been newly renovated which was outstanding. The staff was outstanding. They were friendly each and every day couldn't do enough to help and make your stay memorable. Every recommendation they made was useful and made our stay even better. Rebecca at the pool bar was full of knowledge. Sarah and John from the beach crew were fun, kind and always full of spirit. What a great experience. I would highly recommend and will be going back again. Buffet breakfast each morning was a great way to start the day. So much was inclueded, kyack, paddle boats, snorkeling gear, bikes and much more. I loved this place!

"Spring Break getaway"
We took a family vacation to Islamorada for our son's last high school spring break before he leaves to go to college. We wanted time together to relax and take in the experience of the Florida Keys. We really did not know what to expect and immediately loved the atmosphere and amenities at Pelican Cove. After a few days of site seeing and looking at other "resorts" we were very pleased with our choice and its location. While the overall room size is small, the views and the balcony furnishings were wonderful. We didn't mind the room size because we were always outside. All the resort staff were friendly and accommodating. At night it was quiet and very peaceful. People who are complaining about the lack of luxury in their reviews should think about staying in Miami instead of the Keys...

"Excellent beach area, quiet and relaxing."
We had a perfect visit to Islamorada and this hotel was the center of our trip. There are a lot of tired hotels in the Keys that need updating and Pelican Cove did it right. We liked the modern approach that they took in the rooms and the outdoor area is where we spent all of our time. Breakfast on the beach under a palm tree every morning. We sat on the dock dangled our feet in the water and drank adult beverages. We didn't realize that we would have free access to kayaks and snorkeling gear, that was nice surprise. We will be back!

"Nice, quiet place on the beach, newly renovated"
We were there before spring break season, and understand that it gets much more lively then -- we were after a quiet place to do nothing for a few days. It exceeded my expectations all around. Newly renovated from top to bottom. The pics in the listing don't do it justice -- there is a lot more beach area than it looks like there is. Every room has a balcony with a view and plenty of room to rest in the shade. The resort next door is available for Pelican guests to use, and has a lot more to do including a couple of outdoor restaurants, jet ski rentals, etc. We took a 1.5 hour jet ski tour of the area including some of the islands, definitely worth the time and money. Breakfast every day was simple but very adequate. We will stay there again if the rates don't go up.

"Great getaway destination"
My husband and I stayed at the Pelican Cove for 2 nights. We were pleasantly surprised by the recent renovations. The room was very well appointed, spacious with contemporary furniture and very comfortable bed. The large corner balcony overlooking the beach and the ocean was a wonderful surprise. Renovations are still underway - only a cold breakfast served at the bar - quite substantial and with lots of choices. We ate breakfast on the beach on very comfortable lawn chairs. The restaurants at the sister property next door were available but once the kitchen is renovated, this will be a welcome addition. Lots of restaurants nearby. The staff was very helpful. We would recommend this hotel to our friends.

"Great location with private feel"
This is a great hotel for a quiet getaway setting. Our balcony facing the beach provided great views of the sunrise. The heated pool was perfect because the ocean was too cold. Continental breakfast provides healthy choices, which is a plus. Because the hotel was undergoing construction, we received passes to Postcard Inn, which worked out fine. We wish we would have had our own bar and kitchen on the premises, or at least a stove in the room. Still, once the construction is done, it will be a great place overall.

"Not yet finished renovation, check before you book"
This property is nearing the finish of a major renovation. Our room was only partially furnished. There was only a bed, sofa, and a fancy big screen TV in the room. No bed stand on one side of the bed, no desk (the phone sat on the floor). I had to ask the staff (one busy, but friendly maintenance guy) to bring a deck table so I can set my laptop on it. The bathroom is finished and well appointed, although it is such tight quarters that there is no space to mount a toilet paper dispenser, the TP sat in a shelf under the sink and out of sight. The fridge did no work. The parking lot was loose gravel, not yet paved. I'm sure when it is finished it will be nice, but the partially completed condition should have been communicated at this reservation service. Overall, it was very poor value for the money.

"Think twice before booking a room here"
I had a quite bad experience with this hotel. You can check-in only after 4pm. I was able to get inside my room only after 4:30pm because my room was not ready until that time. Breakfast is not really a breakfast. They have no tables or chairs and all that you get as a breakfast is an old bagel, jam, coffee and tea. The only positive thing is the view. I will not come back there.

"Fabulous ocean view"
The private beach is beautiful, quiet and has many lounge chairs to enjoy. There are many amenities within walking distance such as boat rental, a few restaurants, two outdoor bars on the beach, kayaks, paddle boards, jetski, music, beach games, and more. Pelican Cove is part of The Postcard Inn "complex" and as a registered guest you can visit it all. It is very close to Theater of the Sea, easy walking distance. Being a little bit off of Hwy#1, road noise was not a problem. Pelican Cove is close to many attractions and eating/drinking establishments known for watching the gorgeous sunsets. Resort is under construction/remodeling at moment. There are plumbing problems to work out such as water temperature (Really only had one hot shower in 4 days) and there are clicking noises every time you run any water. Besides the inconveniently located towel bar at your knees/shins, there was a shelf above the faucet that you hit your head on when washing your face. The mini-fridge is enclosed in a cabinet with no ventilation and it was HOT in there. We and other guests left the door hanging open the whole time. Looked like area rug had not been vacuumed for a while. There was no dresser so clothes that could not be hung up stayed in the suitcase. Our second suitcase ended up on the couch. I like to put clothes in a dresser when I stay in a place for more than one day.

"Soon to be...paradise!"
Currently under renovation. Once done- this place will be wonderful. Positive (+): rooms (that are done)* are beautiful, clean, cozy and modern. Beach area is beautiful, pool is (tiny) yet nice. *Go to the Postcard Inn & take advantage of free kayaks, hammocks, bigger pool, bars & restaurants (2 min walk max). Negatives (-): Be aware, as of 1-30-15, STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION! Woke up to jackhammers or drills, the table saws, concrete trucks and work crews went till 5. It was hard to relax. LOUD. This was a bummer. But we made the best of it. Just something to know. They also tested the fire alarms for periods of time, again - cut into the relaxation factor. But future stays shouldn't have to worry about that. Other biggie was that our room had NO HOT WATER! Yikes, this is IMPORTANT! GOOD NEWS = 2nd day (after they tried to fix it) they upgraded us to very nice suite. Rest of our stay was great...Nicer room allowed us to laugh off the jackhammers. Felt for the staff, these inconveniences were not their fault, yet they have to deal with the complaints. Some handled it better than others. They "made it right" with the new room and complimentary drink ticket, we felt much better about our choice. Overall, this place is actually...about to be...paradise! If staying there soon, if you can handle a few hiccups, you'll love it. In the future, it will be a very nice resort. And we will likely stay again!!!

"LOVED IT!"
My husband and I stayed at Pelican Cove just last week. I was a little hesitant because I had read that there were some renovations going on. SOME PRETTY AWESOME RENOVATIONS!! Our room was immaculate and the view was just beautiful. The room upgrades/renovations are fantastic. Seeing the possibilities and potential that the Cove has as soon as they are done is very exciting. I can't wait to get back next year to enjoy and experience what we saw in the making. There was an occasional drill to be heard or a little hammering but it was by no means a deterrent. ALSO, the construction workers were very nice and apologetic, always moving out of your way or doing what they could to not disturb you. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept, the staff very attentive. The dockside breakfast bar was very pleasant also. It was overall a wonderful place to stay and we will be back next year. DO NOT let the renovation work deter you from staying here, it seems to be almost completed.

"A work in progress"
Pelican Cove will be really nice when the renovations are finished. Very nice public areas - pool, beach, seating outdoors, esp. in covered area. Room was fresh, new, and very clean, but it had the tiniest mini-frig I've ever seen. A microwave would have been nice. The first day or two breakfast buffet was set up in outdoor bar area. The bar sides and top either were or looked like coral with amber glass or plexiglass over it - really neat! Then there was no breakfast! We later learned it had been moved into office because of construction. A sign telling us that would have been nice. Instead we went out and bought cereal & milk. Beach is very narrow and not very long, but well kept. Beach doesn't slope into water. It ends (I'm sure it's man made, but doesn't matter to us.), and then there's a drop off into the water. I think there's coral or rocks between the sand and water. There was a small pier with a platform at the end. Pool area was very nice. Four of us in a regular double room was a tight squeeze, but we had a lot of luggage with snorkel gear, etc. We brought in the patio table to put luggage on and under. Balcony had two chairs & a table, but was so big it could have accommodated lounge chairs. Overpriced during holidays, but received discount due to some problems with hot water (see below) and lamp plug that came apart in my hand. Manager was very nice. It will just take some time for them to get the kinks worked out and figure out how the new systems work

Modern, usefully appointed room with good Atlantic view. Clean and comfortable accommodation but problems with plumbing - shower ran alternatively hot and cold and no hot water in wash basin. External buffet breakfast pleasant but designated seating would have been more congenial than dock decking. (Fortunately weather was good). The view was great. The boat dock was right next door and so it would be easy to take boating excursion. The downside of this stay was the state of chaos because of the refurbishing of all the rooms and I wish that I had some warning before I booked. The staff was very pleasant and we were invited to a hospitality event by the pool that evening and given access to an adjoining properties restaurant and bar as the hotel's were unavailable. "New Hotel, not quite ready for guests."
We arrived to check in and the two ladies at the desk were scrambling. They finally found our reservations, but the room keys were not working so we couldn't get in the room. (3pm) They gave us a card for a free drink at the Postcard Inn bar "just over there" and told us they would call when we could get into the room. Noop, not "just over there" - we walked through a maze to the Postcard's checkin desk where a very nice lady there explained where we could use the cards. We waited for a call, but at 6pm went back. (We probably should have done this before, but midwest trust...). We were able to get our keys 3 hours after check in time. This place is under construction: wet concrete, no tiki bar, painting not done, phone sitting on the floor, no towels in the kitchen and the outlet the TV was plugged in to only had power when the light next to the bed was turned on - just luck we figured this one out. There was noise from construction in the morning and two early knocks on the door. Once by the cleaning lady and one by the contactor - both were under the impression the room was not occupied.:( When we left we noticed there was a continential breakfast by office - something else that was not shared with us. This will be a beautiful place when it is done, but it is not done yet and that coupled with the lack of communication and concern from the office staff made me glad we had only reserved one night.

"90% of Hotel in Rehab!"
Arrived to find office closed and relocated.....hard to find sign-in on second floor of building. Almost left when we first arrived. We were told new ownership had taken over and entire hotel was being renovated. After being shown room and pool area we decided to stay. Room was clean, king sized bed had nice bedding and bath had good towels. Nice patio off the room to see the ocean views! The bar by the pool closed at 5 pm so we had time for only one drink and the café was closed also. Bar never opened on our 2nd day nor did the café. Perhaps they should have just closed. We loved the location and think the hotel will be great when renovated. Hopefully they don't raise the prices too much to be afforded by middle class visitors. Hope they keep the staff that we met at the front desk and throughout the property. All were experienced and seemed to offer the best they could under the conditions they were forced to explain. There was a lot going on with a lot of hammering and trucks tracking around property. We hope to visit again when work is completed. It will be one of the best properties and close to many things to do in this area!

"pleasant enough stay at this quiet resort"
This resort has so much potential now that it is being remodeled under new ownership. We stayed in one of the old rooms with a kitchen (which we really tried to use as much as possible) but the state of the kitchen supplies was very sad. We had 1 spoon and 1 sharp knife. The plates and bowls were all old and chipped. We had zero kitchen towels or dish rags to wash anything. Had to ask for those. I assume this is because they are taking out all of the kitchens in the new rooms, so why replace or update anything now. Regardless, having a stove saved us $ on a few dinners at least. The pool was the nicest part (Hot tub was HOT) and if the pool bar were open more it would be even better (Happy Hour was great)! But we seemed to be one of the few people staying there during construction. The beach was okay...they raked it every day. But there was no place to get into the water from shore. Just a swim dock that if you jumped off, you were surrounded by masses of fish. Room was quiet and housekeeping was good. They desperately need to clean the exhaust fans in the bathrooms though! Beds were old and uncomfy, but again will soon be replaced. The view from all of the rooms is outstanding. Lots of iguanas around. Definitely rent a boat from the marina next door and go to the sandbar for a few hours! Calm, clear beautiful turquoise water and you can see fish and stingrays swim by you while standing in waist-deep water. Overall, I'd come back.
