The resort is large with lots of room and multi room options. Plenty to do without leaving the resort [pools, island beach, water park, golf, tennis, spa]. It is near a great rain forest [about a 20 minute ride outside the resort]. If you have to eat out all the time it will get expensive. Best to have a kitchen [we had an ocean facing three bedroom […] unit]. Many say to stay in the North side units as the South units are farther from the main hotel. However, it really isn't that far to walk and they have a shuttle service that comes every 10-15 minutes to take you across the resort. We liked the South side as it seemed slightly quieter. Love this place. Casitas were great very nice roomy and well appointed. Tons of activity to participate in and great dining options. The infinity pool is the hallmark of casita area. However the service at the pool bar andcafe was horrible. Not once but everyday even when I was the only person at the bar i couldn't get any service when there were 4 […] or more servers and bartender. This is where resorts earn their money and makes for a happy vacation. Servers and tenders hung out in the back kitchen and you could hear them goofing around. Or the stood idol texting on their phones. Very frustrating. Management and service at main hotel is much more attentive. Read more

Generally, it's a great resort for a 4-5 day trip. The views are magnificent, the private island is a great bonus and there are a lot to do on the resort. On the other hand, the rooms are a bit dated, the food in general was a bit disappointing and the spa was somehow overpriced for a comparable service in the region. Las Casitas was much more convenient than staying at the hotel. We parked our car in front of our casita as opposed to the hotel where you have to pay to park and it's a far walk. We had a one bedroom which was beautiful. It had a full kitchen and an outside patio where we ate our breakfasts. The infinity pool was gorgeous. Gorgeous hotel/property with expansive grounds and natural landscaping. Friendly and helpful staff. Were upgraded to a ocean view room on the second night - made all the difference. This is a beautiful resort with excellent views. Upon our arrival we were told that there was a problem with our booking and that they book by view choice and NOT bedding choice so we were being given two doubles so that we could get our ocean view, we asked for a change this seemed to be an extreme inconvenience but after speaking with the manager […] she was able to give us a king room with a garden view, which was a little disappointing but we were happy to have a king bed and we did have a limited ocean view. We were given butler for our stay however when we called he never answered his phone and we only actually saw him once after check in during our stay. The restaurants are a very good quality with excellent food however they are ridiculously priced; the bars are very overpriced with weak drinks. Palomino Island was a very nice place to go and relax, we were able to find a spot with only two other adults sunbathing so it was perfect for us to lounge and enjoy the sun. You are required to have a credit card in file for incidentals which is very common at resorts, however this resort charged our card multiple times a day instead of once at check out which caused us some trouble with our bank thinking they were fraudulent charges so this was one headache we could have done without in the middle of our vacation. Also be prepared to walk long distances or use the shuttle. Overall a very nice place to stay, be prepared to spend an extreme amount of money on food and beverages. Read more

Stayed at Las Casitas for three nights with my family. We booked a one bedroom unit but upgraded to an ocean view for a reasonable fee that I negotiated with the check-in clerk. The room layout is good and the furniture and fixtures are also nice. The spa has a very good fitness facility but it could use a little more upkeep. I would suggest trying to get a unit close to the hotel to make it easy to walk there, which you have to do to catch the funicular to the beach. My one issue is the daily resort fee which I did not know about. I hate these kind of hidden fees and detest it when resorts bury such stupid fees as a way to boost their room rate. Just tell us what the rate is all-in...don't nickel and dime us to death with stupid fees. In this case, the fee was not insubstantial ($67/day)....so be mindful of this Read more

This was my first time visiting Puerto Rico. My husband, 4yo daughter and I went for a short trip (3 nights). I was concerned that we wouldn't have time to really enjoy the resort, or that it would be too crowded. It exceeded all of my expectations!! We initially thought that it would be a lot of trouble to get from our room to the island, but it was not. We were there Wednesday to Saturday and it was not at all crowded. So riding the funicular and the boat to the island was quite easy. The beach was beautiful and again, not crowded. So our daughter had a great time! We were there at the beginning of February and I think that it was a great time to visit. The weather was beautiful, highs of 82F and lows of 73F. We were celebrating our anniversary and so we had dinner on Friday evening at Stingray Cafe. It was superb. It was formal in presentation, but casual in attitude. (A good thing when traveling with a 4yo) On Saturday as we were preparing to leave, we noticed that it was a little more crowded... probably weekend travelers. The views are breathtaking and the infinity pool is amazing! When you check in they give you a room "credit card" so that you can charge all expenses to the room which is very convenient but make sure you look at the actual charges. Someone added on a $58 tip to our room service bill which of course I did not actual do since there already is a 20% gratuity […] charge. If I hadn't looked we would've paid for it. When I pointed it out the front desk investigated and correct it but no apology. Other than that incident everything was great. Access to Palomino Island by the free ferry was a huge bonus. Gorgeous setting on the top of a cliff. The garden view casita had a view of the parking area and the golf course. The ocean view rooms must be truly spectacular and I'm sure worth the upgrade, but we were happy with our casita. Incredibly comfortable bed. Not sure what happened but we didn't end up getting our room cleaned or turndown on our second […] day. We didn't complain because it wasn't a big deal to us, but just noting. Full kitchen came in handy because the resort food was, like others have stated, overpriced and just OK. There are some FANTASTIC local restaurants within a mile of the resort, so venture out. The infinity pool is gorgeous and we had no trouble finding lounge chairs, though we did visit in January and the resort was relatively quiet. The bar by the infinity pool was sub-par. Really weak and poorly made drinks - super sour mojito, big chunks of ice in the frozen blended drinks. We ended up drinking beer at the pool which is a shame because I love a good pina colada (the pina colada at the poor bar at El Conquistador was, however, excellent). The service at the pool was non-existant and empty glasses were scattered about the pool area for hours. The spa was amazing and a highlight of our stay. Cindy gave me the best massage of my life. After touring the hotel El Conquistador we were SO glad we paid a bit more to stay at the adjoining Casitas. The hotel was full of families and Las Casitas was quieter and had a slightly classier clientele. Read more

We had a great time with 2 other couples. The views are spectacular & the setting was perfect. We enjoyed a couple of evenings hanging out n the hot tub by the infinity pool overlooking the ocean! The golf course is beautiful (though a bit pricey when renting clubs). Evening power outages were brief and bothered some other guests, just be aware in case you have kids in the pool etc. of what to do when they occur. Power outage when the cable car quit from the marina area to main hotel was somewhat of an inconvienience. […] Sting ray restaurant was fantastic with great service, outside bar/eatery in main hotel, only reccommend the pizza. Plan meals ahead of time before your group is hungry or kids have melt downs. The Casitas was perfect for us so everyone could have some space but meet at the pool or for meals. Any plans or transportation you make with concierge, butlers etc, we reccommend following up as two of our transportation reservations were not logged but the hotel was quick to rectify with acceptable alternates. you won't be disappointed. great place. the employees were very friendly and helpful. little kitchenette in the room. free bottles of water. the rooms are set up like attached condos ( 4 per building) next to the main hotel along the cliffside. you can use all the facilities at the hotel. infinity pool overlooking the caribbean is incredible and only […] for the Casitas guests, so no one from the Hotel side can come. they have a private island 15 minutes away with lots of activities there, with free boat ride there. they also have a water slide/lazy river park for the kids. there is also lots of activities for family games (slot cars racing). lots to do and relax. shops, restaurants were pricy so we went out into town (had a rental car) for local nice cuisine (use tripadvisor for restaurant ratings and go out). the only bad thing i can say is that their beds were small. we were 2 adults and 2 kids. they had 2 - full-size beds for us, not queens. we asked and they brought us another roll-away bed for free. we will definitely go back. you will be impressed. The settings inside the resort were great. We stayed in the Las Casitas Village and the views from our 2 bedroom/2 bathroom unit were wonderful. The private island was very nice. They had plenty of options for everyone. Also on site are multiple hotels options and I would suggest paying the extra to stay in Las Casitas Village. The village is newer, […] quieter and less crowded. The water park is very nice. I don't think it will keep your teenager happy for a full day but surely is fun for all ages. My wife and I were at the resort for a week for our 4 year anniversary and it was amazing! The staff was there to assist with anything we needed immediately and they made us feel as though we were their top priority. The setting and grounds of the hotel are beautiful, and the views from our room and most of the complex are spectacular. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeble. Food on-site was not bad, but much better food can be had outside the gate. The AC for our room would never slow down enough for the room to get out of the mid-60s. Too cool […] is better than too hot, but it's supposed to be a 5-star resort. Also, our floor of the condo had 3 rooms sharing a common entry hall, and on 3 separate ocassions we were locked out of the outer door to the entry hall. House keeping had keys that could open it, but the keys for the rest of the staff (and our's) would not. So even after we called the front desk on our cell, we had to wait for the person they sent to come and then wait again while that person went to get a key that would work. So their solution was to prop open the outer door without ever repairing the lock. Many other aspects of the resort appear to be in need of maintenance, too.
