Overall an enjoyable experience. The staff is very helpful. Just know that there is nothing surrounding to walk to and you are in the resort if you don't have a car. The hotel will arrange tuk tuk's, taxi's, or private boats but there is nothing in walking distance. Room is comfortable, wish there had been slippers offered for the cold floor. Restaurant […] has good food and good service. And the pool is heated which is great for the chilly afternoons. I asked for a massage one night and in less than an hour someone was available. I do wish the spa setting had been more comfortable with dim lighting and music. It was a good massage, but with bright lights. Overall a nice stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
If you are going anywhere in Guatemala this hotel necessitates at least a one night stay. The views are breath taking, the gardens gorgeous. It is a walk or $3 ride into Pana. The nature preserve is right there. The staff was very very nice, the rooms clean, the bar area beautiful with a huge fireplace and the restaurant lovely. The food was good in […] general and very good for Guatemala. We also stayed at the sister hotel in Antigua which is right in town and equally lovely settings. I can't rave enough about this place and hope I have an opportunity to go back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nature preserve right next door"
Don't miss the nature preserve 1/4 mile away. Great views of spider monkeys. Location is a a short 3 minute/ $3 tuk tuk ride away from Pana. The hotel will even arrange the ride for you.Great hotel. Very fine breakfast buffet.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Most beautiful home away from home."
The grounds are a botanical paradise and the service is excellent. The dining experience is first class. The view splendid and the room accommodation is old world meets new world comfort. I highly recommended Hotel Atitlan.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Gorgeous setting - couldn't be nicer. Very quiet. Good service, too, both in the hotel and it's restaurant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fabulous Grounds & Good Food"
The gardens surrounding the hotel are gorgeous and well manicured. The dinning was some of the better food we had while in Guatemala. The WI-FI is intermittent as is the hot water. We didn't have hot water for showers two of the 4 days we were there.

This is an older hotel but well maintained. The grounds have exceptional gardens and the entire property is well maintained. The restaurant is excellent but most of all the views from this location are among the most spectacular in the world. This is not an exaggeration. Additionally, this hotel is a few minutes away from Panajachel which is important for quiet serenity.

One of the most beautiful hotels that I have stayed in. The grounds were gorgeous with manicured gardens and beautiful birds. The views were wonderful of the lake and volcanos. The food was excellent. The rooms are individually decorated. Wonderful service.

Spent 2 nights at Hotel Atitlan and enjoyed every minute of it. The hotel is set on the shore of Lake Atitlan, about a five minute tuk tuk ride from Pana. We were so happy that we selected Hotel Atitlan and did not stay in Pana, which we found to be rather chaotic. The hotel is beautiful, with amazingly beautiful gardens and walkways throughout the resort property. We had a room on the third floor with gorgeous views of the lake and volcanoes. Perfect! We found the front desk staff to be business-like. The waitstaff was very friendly, and the meals were all delicious, although one of the buffet breakfasts had food that had sat for too long and wasn't hot. The first day it was hot, but not on the 2nd day. Noticed someone at the end of the buffet line after we had finished our breakfast, and they were ordering some eggs. Wish we had thought to do the same, as on the first day, we had delicious scrambled eggs. On day 2, there were cold omellettes. Anyway, friendly waiters/waitresses, delicious coffee, too. We had dinner there both nights, and all of the entrees we ordered were delicious. We traveled independently, but there were a couple of bus tours there, which seemed to liven things up. The hotel has a fantastic bar area, and there is a nice terrace for dining overlooking the lake. The pool was very cold, but the infinity hot tub was great! Definitely recommended. One morning we had a tour guide (Domingo from Tornado's Excursions) pick us up in his boat right at the hotel dock. We toured three villages with him, and had a fantastic day. Highly recommended! We also walked to the Atitlan Nature Reserve which is very close to the hotel. They had lots of hiking trails, hanging bridges, a butterfly room, coatis, monkeys, ziplining, etc. A fun way to spend an afternoon. Hotel Atitlan is the best place to stay on the lake if you're looking for something near (but not in) Pana.

This must be one of the most beautiful hotels in the world. Its not "over the top" but stylish yet simple. A lovely pool area overlooking the lake and lovely rooms. Simply breathtaking. The meals were quite good and staff friendly.
"Best of Panajachel"

The Hotel Atitlan is a very good hotel. It is situated away from the main village away form the hustle of town - you can walk to town and back which we did - a portion is on the main road but all part of the experience. The hotel itself has a tremendous view of the lake - from every room. We were on the 2nd floor in 202 - near the main lobby but no noise at all - and a direct view down the lake - perfect. The hotel grounds are very well done and the infinity hot pool overlooking the lake is a joy at sunset. The outdoor restaurant is very nice - The main indoor dining area was a little large for us and any groups at the hotel were set up there so - outside was more intimate and the service was very good however you do wait for your meal - but - think where you are and stop and enjoy! One night was cool so we sat by the enormous fireplace in the bar and they set a place for us there. This is a good hotel - there is no air conditioning but it is not needed - just open your balcony doors to the fabulous view. There were a few little bugs at sunset - as there are in all similar climates but they are quickly gone. The front desk staff speak perfect English and are only to happy to help you plan your day. The rooms are spacious and bathroom is good with endless hot water. Internet is free of charge - even in the rooms.
"Beautiful resort away from the chaos"

The Hotel Atitlan is a resort type property about 1 mile from the hectic downtown area of Panajachel. Its location is both good (away from the noise and along the lake) and bad (you need to get to and from the city). The rooms are very nice and all have balconies/patios facing the lake and volcanoes although many rooms have trees and foliage blocking the view. Our room (201) had a perfect view but was right above the main walkway and next to the public areas. The rooms themselves were adequate but the bedding was bad. Very hard beds and pillows were a definite negative. Service was up and down. One desk clerk was fabulous and helpful, the other was rude and unhelpful. Service in the restaurant was very good. The pool and jacuzzi along the lake was a great place to relax. Some publications may say you can walk to town (less than 1 mile) but that is really not true. It is a hilly and dusty walk and I wouldn't recommend it. The good news - the tuc-tuc ride to town costs only $2.50 (two people) and the rides are always available. I would recommend this hotel because it is away from the hectic noise of downtown Panajachel but it would be better if the bedding was more comfortable and they focused a little more on service. Two emails to the hotel have never been answered. Also, the lack of an included breakfast makes it a little more pricey. One very good thing that we took advantage of - if you stay at this hotel and their sister property in Antigua (Dona Leonor) you get a 15-20% discount on both room costs.
"Prefect Base for Seeing the Lake"

We spent three nights at Hotel Atitlan to give us a base from which to tour Lake Atitlan for two days. The hotel is 5 minutes, or so, by tuc-tuc or taxi to Panajachel, and not staying in "Pana", after seeing it, was fine with us. We chose a second floor room in the old section so we could leave the balcony door open at night. And NO bugs. The views of the lake and lakeside gardens were perfect, and we were close to the restaurant, bar, pool and reception area. We had all of our breakfasts and dinners at the hotel. Even though the menu was somewhat limited, the food was well prepared, professionally served and enjoyable., especially on the patio over looking the pool and lake. We had no complaints about our room. It was a decent size, well maintained and clean. The public areas were nicely decorated and well maintained. The gardens were spectacular with many varieties or orchids and other flowers in bloom, peacocks strutting around, and other exotic birds in cages or sitting on their perches. This area, too, was well maintained and worthy a walk or two. The hotel staff was friendly, very helpful, professional, and most spoke English. We highly recommend Hotel Atitlan if you are planning to spend some time visiting the villages around the lake and if you are looking for a little peace and quiet afterwards. Jim and Frida Murray
"No way to treat a guest"

The hotel starts out by discounting US dollars by 6.25%. If you cash in a $100 you get 750Q, the equivalent of $93.75. There is no air conditioning or fans in the rooms, and there are little bugs that byte and the bytes itch for about a week. Some of the staff are helpful, but they take their sweet time to get around to anything. The hotel is about a kilometer outside the town, the last 200 meters over a dirt road. A taxi is recommended for going into town. The room is clean, the grounds are spectacular as is the view.
"Not a first class hotel!"

Great views and lovely grounds but .... No air conditioning, bug bites . no fan in room, and rip off exchange rates. Pay for a drink in dollars and they will not give change in dollars. Complained to manager who explained they give "hotel exchange rate".

We've stayed here once a year for 6 years. I am happy to say they are no longer charging for internet which was an issue for us on our last visit and review. The gardens continue to be spectacular and the views are breath taking as the hotel is located on the lake and even has its own dock. The rooms are in the Spanish colonial style with ethnic touches from Mexico and Guatemala to add colour and interest. Our room was a suite that we paid dearly for and it did not wow us in the least. The standard rooms are similar with the exception of the fireplace that we did not need or use. The metal bed frame in our room, 308, was unattractive and seemed out of place, the pillows were skinny foam ones, the tub grouting had mould and the ancient TV not in a location that you could comfortably watch. We have been huge fans of the hotel in the past but as it starts to become neglected we are looking closer at the overall service. Front desk staff try hard and are fluent in English. The restaurant staff are slow, inattentive and disorganized. We sat by the pool for brunch and were eaten alive by no see-ums. When I asked for some repellant I was told they sell it in the gift shop - this is not the right response. The gift shop has an outstanding collection of clothing, jewelry, hats, housewares - all representing parts of Guatemala. Just know that while the hotel's proximity to Pana has it's pluses, there are many other Posadas and Casas around the lake that are better quality.
