Overall an enjoyable experience. The staff is very helpful. Just know that there is nothing surrounding to walk to and you are in the resort if you don't have a car. The hotel will arrange tuk tuk's, taxi's, or private boats but there is nothing in walking distance. Room is comfortable, wish there had been slippers offered for the cold floor. Restaurant […] has good food and good service. And the pool is heated which is great for the chilly afternoons. I asked for a massage one night and in less than an hour someone was available. I do wish the spa setting had been more comfortable with dim lighting and music. It was a good massage, but with bright lights. Overall a nice stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
If you are going anywhere in Guatemala this hotel necessitates at least a one night stay. The views are breath taking, the gardens gorgeous. It is a walk or $3 ride into Pana. The nature preserve is right there. The staff was very very nice, the rooms clean, the bar area beautiful with a huge fireplace and the restaurant lovely. The food was good in […] general and very good for Guatemala. We also stayed at the sister hotel in Antigua which is right in town and equally lovely settings. I can't rave enough about this place and hope I have an opportunity to go back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Most beautiful home away from home."
The grounds are a botanical paradise and the service is excellent. The dining experience is first class. The view splendid and the room accommodation is old world meets new world comfort. I highly recommended Hotel Atitlan.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"EXCELENTE EXCEPTO CUANDO HAY BODAS"
LA COMIDA MUY BUENA AUNQUE ME HUBIERA GUSTADO UN MENU DE COMIDA TIPICA DE GUATEMALA, LA CALIDAD DEL SERVICIO ES BUENA, LA UBICACION DEL HOTEL TAMBIEN PERO SI NO SE QUIERE ESTAR EN EL CENTRO DE PANA PORQUE PARA IR AHI HAY QUE TOMAR MOTOTAXI. LAS HABITACIONES SON MUY LIMPIAS, COMODAS. EL PROBLEMA ES QUE HABIA UNA BODA, Y SE ESCUCHABA TODO EL TIEMPO LA […] MUSICA QUE TENIAN HASTA HORAS DE LA MADRUGADA, LO CUAL NO PERMITIA DORMIR. "Beautiful Hotel with Magnificent Gardens"
07/26/14 EuropeanTraveler16 Columbus, Ohio
This hotel is top-notch when it comes to surrounding scenery, beautiful rooms, and an excellent dining room. The gardens are quite impressive and constantly cared for. The lake is right at the edge of the gardens. The rooms are quite nice with plenty of amenities. The staff is attentive in every way. The dining room serves excellent food, and the dining room staff is quite accommodating and attentive, also. This is a beautiful place to stay if you're ever in the area.

This property is very beautiful and quiet. My 2nd floor room overlooked the formal garden and lake with a sweet sound of a rushing stream off to the right,I saw all kinds of birds and even a large Coatimundi below my balcony. The place is well cared by staff, filled with interesting artwork and antiques.Buffet was very good.Coffee ,superb. The boat ride included in my tour was docked and run via this place.Room was super clean and comfortable..Views of the volcano were amazing at all times of day.Be sure to watch the night sky for the lightening show!
"Lovely Gardens overlooking the lake."

This hotel charges non guests to go around its gardens. The hotel has its own security perimeter. It is situated at the foot of the mountains in a small bay, the view of the bay is spoilt by 3 tower blocks of a hotel constructed of green painted concrete. Having said that, the tower blocks are not visible for the most part from the hotel. The hotel is cluttered with religious nick knacks. It has a well stocked shop. The hotel overlooks the lake and volcanos with extensive, well kept gardens, complete with caged birds here and there. One of the nice things about the hotel was sitting on the terrace having breakfast watching the humming birds. At night you can dine in the restaurant and have a glass wall that gives you a view of the caged birds. The food is good and plentiful. The service is excellent in the restaurant. We did find it impossible to get a cup of coffee at the bar being told by the grumpy barman ( who had no other customers) to go to the terrace on the two separate occasions we tried. There are no coffee making facilities in your room. There was no iron in your room- any way who cares that your trousers look like they have come out of a suit case? We were picked up from the hotel jetty and had a day tour of the local villages around the lake. This was excellent and was the highlight of our stay.
"Not worth the moneny at all and with bed bugs"
07/08/14 travellervkj Madrid, Spain
The rooms are not nice. They are dark during the day and rustic. The beds are not comfortable. Don't forget flip flops for the shower. We got bitten by bed bugs!!! The gardens, the views and the swimming pools are worth staying there. But you can also stay somewhere else and go there for a cup of tea and have the same views without staying there. The food in the restaurant is not really nice. And some of the staff either. You can get some nachos, fried fish and some other "junk food". We enjoyed staying there because of the views, the swimming pools and the beautiful, well maintained gardens but not the rooms. For a short stay it is ok. Previously we stayed in a rented house that had no views but was cheaper and the rooms and beds were much more comfortable. I really wouldn't reccomend this place for a sleep.
"Didn't want to leave."

Do yourself a favor and stay here on the lake at least one night! Service was good from the moment we walked into the hotel and continued while we were waiting for our transportation that was an hour late. The manager called our transportation coordinator and kept getting updates for us. The rooms are nice, not over the top. They could use some new fixtures like TVs and more comfortable beds and then then I would put this place as the best place we stayed. Views of the volcanoes were amazing and we could have stayed here for that alone. The location is just outside of Atitlan up a large hill. It was definitely easier to get a Tuk Tuk or taxi then walking, but with the good food, pool, bar, and scenery you could almost not even go anywhere and have a good trip. The one side note is my wife had her wallet stolen sometime while we were sitting around in the lobby. Their was a wedding party moving through though and we assume it was them and not hotel staff and not associated to the hotel in any way. Art around the hotel was cool too. We would stay here again.
"Views and Gardens"
07/01/14 experto11 Miami Beach, Florida
I will recommend to take a visit and take advantage of the gorgeous views (really it is the most beautiful lake in the world). Once you are there you can see their beautiful gardens. You should avoid to sleep in there, the rooms are old with very bad taste, the tv's are old, bathrooms are awful, beds and linens are despicable. So, take advantage of the vocation of the hotel, have a coffee an enjoy the view.
"The Most Beautiful Place on Lake Atitlan"
06/29/14 88JeepYJ Austin TX
This was our first time in Guatemala and it was a great surprise. We flew into Guatemala City and hired a driver from Atitlan Adventures in Panajachel. It was cheaper than booking through the hotel for 4 of us. The drive was long (3 1/2 hrs) from the airport especially during the rain but it was nice to see the country side. We were so happy when we arrived to the hotel because the view of the lake and volcanoes was AMAZING! Check in was quick. We stayed in a queen room. Very simply decorated with white linens and Mayan throw pillows and art work. The walls could use a fresh coat of white paint but that is the only complaint about the room. The balcony view was amazing! We overlooked one of the main gardens and of course the lake. The gardens are incredible! We spent a little of each day exploring. There are peacocks, parrots, toucans, rabbits, and fish ponds. The outside dining area is covered so you can enjoy your meals shaded from the sun or the rain, while enjoying the most spectacular view of the volcanoes and lake. The food was great too. The bar/lounge is so unique and cozy. The hotel is full of Mayan/Guatemalan figurines, statues, and fabrics. The staff was sweet and were always smiling. They made us really feel at home. We enjoyed many long meals just chatting and enjoying the views. The location was great. You can walk to the nature preserve down the street and enjoy a beautiful waterfall and bridges up in the trees. There is also a butterfly garden that you can visit at the perserve. Panajachel is easy 5 minute tuk tuk ride from the hotel. Here you can eat, shop and catch the boats to other towns on the lake. Stay at this hotel! It is a very special! You will feel at home and will not want to the leave. This is the most peaceful and beautiful spot on Lake Atitlan! I promise!
"One of my favorite hotels anywhere."
06/25/14 borborigny Long Beach
This is one of my favorite hotels in the world. We are returning there next week for the 3d time. The main part of the hotel is exquisitely kept and decorated with local art, the dining room is colorful with friendly staff, colorfully clad in local dress. One has gorgeous views of the high altitude, volcano circled Lake Atitlan from almost any location in the hotel. I the lovely grounds and basic aspects of the room are covered in other reviews but it is one of the most relaxing hotels I can think of for pretty reasonable cost. A converted coffee plantation the facility and grounds are lovely. The main hotel is immaculately decorated with comfortable furniture for reading among wonderful Guatemalan crafts and art. The grounds are groomed with formalized gardens complete with a caged toucan and parrot an and a peacock who has learned to face away from any camera and fan his tail only when your camera is turned away. The food is hearty and good based, on regional cooking but not exclusively. The personnel are accommodating and friendly. One can tour but mostly we just relax. Sooo... tranquil. It's 1 to 2 hours drive from Guatemala City but on the main highway (be sure you take the main highway as a more direct road is damaged and unsafe. It was scary to me when a van driver took us that way once). The drive will take you through a variety of Guatemalan terrain and North of Panahachel and Solola is a richly agricultural area. We once saw farmers harvesting carrots in their colorfully woven local garb like we would wear denims. Their work clothes looked like Sunday's best. There is some of the most spectacular, colorful weaving in the world done in this region.
"I just had dinner there. Amazing view"
06/19/14 ArmelleBriel New Hampshire
Panajachel is still a place that has not seen the uber development we see where views are breathtaking. I am not exactly sure why (government rules about property ownership with outsiders), but this place has an incredible view of Lake Atitlan and the volcanoes in the background. The food was good too. The place has its own feel. It does not look like other luxury hotel. As I said in the title I was not an hotel guest, but just had dinner there. This hotel is one of the few luxury hotels in the area. I was staying in a bed and breakfast places in Panajachel and having a meal at the hotel was highly recommended by my host at the bed and breakfast.
06/14/14 Sandra R Indian Land, South Carolina
Everyone at hotel very accommodating and friendly. A warm welcome by gracious people. Grounds and gardens are beautiful, pool area was nice and view was spectacular. All rooms face Lake Atitlan. The only negative is that the hotel is a bit 'worn'. Guest rooms could use and upgrade--especially the bedding. Mattresses were very very hard and sheets were well-worn. I would consider returning to the hotel when they upgrade their beds. Otherwise, it was a wonderful experience. VERY RELAXING and wonderful staff.
