Selected hotel based on review on Hotels.Com. We wanted a hotel reasonably close to Schiller Theater where Wagner's Ring was being presented in early April. Hotel was approximately 3 blocks from Theater, an easy walk. Good transportation nearby, a number of good restaurants within 2 blocks. We stayed in a room with kitchen facilities. Very comfortable, […] good staff and extremely helpful and pleasant staff. 7th floor lounge is open from 2 to 9 pm with complimentary coffee, tea, snacks, etc. Because of configuration of building, elevator stops at landings between floors meaning you have to walk up or down a short flight of stairs. The staff was excellent. They were helpful, polite, and knowledgeable. The free buffet (coffee, tea, juices, assorted pastries, and small sandwiches) in the afternoon and evening on the seventh floor is a nice treat after a day of trekking around Berlin. The lounge is also a great place to access the internet. The hotel location is good with short walks […] to both a subway station (U Bahn) and a light rail (S Bahn) station. In addition, there are several decent restaurants and coffee shops with 2 blocks of the hotel. My only complaint was unreliable wireless internet access in our particular room. However, we did have good wireless internet connectivity in the lounge on the seventh floor. So the problem seems to have been with that particular room. We informed the staff and they will probably fix the problem in that room. I would give an overall rating of 5 if the room had reliable internet access. Read more

i staid for one night, amazed how this hotel/apartment is designed. it is in western part of berlin. it is very nice if i am gonna stay longer as you will have your own parking, speedy net, small kitchen if it is available in your room, excellent breakfast and atmosphere at the breakfast lounge. but disadvantages is the wall of the rooms is very thin […] to the extend you can hear the steps easily out side and in the next room, my mother staid in the 6th floor. she got disturbed by the breakfast lounge in term of the catering people and hotel resident steps. also there is no ramp for the luggages especially if you have big one like mine after three weeks trip. We have been there with our adult kids in another room for 5 days on a family trip. location is great right in the center of berlin. the balcony and lounge on 7 floor is useful and you can drink and relax after walking all days in the city. My only comment to the management is that in our room (the small room we booked) the chair is a bar style chair […] and i could not use it with my back pain. I recommend avoiding the "breakfast lounge" at all costs. Even though they set a place specifically for your room, never inform you about the cost, never ask you to sign something, you will suddenly find an additional charge on your bill for 15 euros per person. In my case, they significantly overcharged me (for breakfasts I never even went to the lounge […] for) and the staff was unfriendly, implying that this sort of thing happens all of the time and that they are usually successful in squeezing payment out of guests (they already have our credit card info). Other than breakfast: the location is very close to the university an reasonably quiet. The rooms can get very hot and stuffy in the summer, please note that there is no air conditioning. The internet works poorly, the code that they give you seems to expire at random and the registration desk is rarely open (even for a 7AM check out), making it difficult to get a new one. Read more

Hotel OTTO is a great choice for non-German speakers. The staff has excellent English and is incredibly friendly. The WiFi works. The comfort rooms are spacious and well-maintained. The location is pretty solid. The breakfast may be 13 euros. But, wow, what a breakfast. There are the standard German sliced meats/cheeses, lots of heavy German bread, […] a cereal/granola/yogurt area, a hot section with eggs and sausage/bacon, and a weekly special area with cycling contents. Add in a table of tea, a selection of awesome juices...we were happy, and ate every breakfast in the hotel. They probably deserve a five rating on everything, but I dinged them a point on comfort and cleanliness mainly to highlight that German hotels have slightly different standards than other places. The bed is hard. Because it's a German/European bed. There's no fan in the bathroom. There's no air conditioning. The staff doesn't pick up empty bottles unless they are near the trash can. These things aren't that unusual in Germany (or in my experience of Europe), but they can be annoying if you haven't seen them before. Read more

The Hotel Otto seems to have a bevy of multi-lingual, very polite and helpful staff members. As noted in other reviews, the desk takes care of transportation tickets, taxis, postage and mailing, provides restaurant reviews, made reservations for the Bundestag (requires three day advance application.) Who could ask for more? The rooms in the old section […] are quite large and appropriate for a family. I chose this hotel because my grandfather's name was Otto! It turned out to be the best hotel of the 6 we stayed in during our 3 week trip to Europe. The room was clean, spacious, and very modern in decore. Immaculate, with some nice little extra touches...a bottle of water and some fruit for our arrival. Breakfast area is on the 7th floor. Very clean […] and well-laid out, with a nice view. If the weather was warm, you can also sit on their patio and enjoy some coffee, tea, or a snack. Breakfast room is kept stocked with snacks and beverages all day for the convenience of the traveler at no extra charge. Staff were amazing! Very professional, but also very friendly and helpful. Gave us some good tips and directed us to several local eateries and stores for shopping. Only caution....there are three flights of stairs going to the breakfast room, which was a little difficult for my parents who have some mobility issues. The elevator stops on the 5th floor. Another cute touch...bird sounds in the elevator, with a little "surprise" if you press the button. We are definitely going to stay again when next we visit Berlin and I have already recommended this hotel to several friends who will be there in the summer. Read more

Very nice, clerks friendly and helpful. Nice touch: hallways infused with pleasent scents. Elevator (up to the 6th of 7 floors). Room vary large, simply furnished with quality furniture. Three of us fit very easily. Clean and comfortable beds, even the day bed. The pillows were a little too soft, but maybe that's just me. Bathroom clean and free of […] mildew. The shower in our room was such that the bathroom floor around the shower could flood a little, inconvenient but not a big deal. Small walk-in closet with ammenities like sewing kit, shoe shine kit, toothbrush/toothpaste, etc - very useful. Large, heavy blackout curtains good for sleeping in. Quiet location, convenient to U-bahn stop and bus stop and to restaurants. Irritated that there was no "Do Not Disturb" doorknob sign - maid service bothered us a couple of times before we were ready to move about. Note that the rooms are not air conditioned, but the hotel suppiied a fan which was okay, but may have been a problem had it been hotter. I have gotten used to having a coffee pot in my hotel room, but there was none in ours at this hotel. Juice (and coffee too) avaialable gratis on the 7th floor after 9:00 am (I think) until late at night (11:00 pm). Overall, a very nice hotel in a convenient location at a good price. I would return. This hotel is very charming and unique. It's not a chain hotel, which was good for us but may not be good for everyone. For example, if you get there at night, you need to ring the bell - but the staff will promptly answer. The room was huge (but with carpet, I personally dislike it). It's very clean. They use two beds together instead of a queen/king […] bed, which is not the best but is common in Germany. The breakfast is just AMAZING, honestly. Really don't understand why this place is so well reviewed. It's OK, but is NOT a 4 star hotel - basically a 3 star, no amenity hotel with marginally better interior design than some other 3 star hotels. The rooms and bathrooms are fine in an IKEA kind of way- they look OK but some of the fixtures and fittings are not particularly high quality. The […] construction quality is not great as there was a LOT Of noise coming into the room from outside in the corridor- did not help being on the ground floor next to reception. Also the "free" internet does not work in any meaningful way- extremely slow and too weak to be picked up by the ipad. I had to pay for the Tmobile hotspot because it was the only way to actually do some work in a reasonable amount of time. There is no restaurant or bar, and no staff anywhere after 11pm.
